Campgrounds and RV parks near qathet B, BC

The qathet region sits on the upper Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, along the Malaspina Peninsula where the Salish Sea meets a coastal temperate rainforest. Powell River is a city on the northern Sunshine Coast of southwestern British Columbia, with most of its population living near the eastern shores of Malaspina Strait, which is part of the larger Georgia Strait between Vancouver Island and the Mainland. The community is isolated by ocean and mountains and is only accessible by water via BC Ferries or by air. Vehicles from Vancouver must take two ferries to reach Powell River, and an alternative access is a ferry crossing from Comox on Vancouver Island. Campground options range from oceanside private resorts to lakefront regional parks and a forested provincial park. Garnet Rock Oceanside Resort and Seabreeze Resorts cater to travellers wanting sites near the water, while Willingdon Beach Campsite sits within walking distance of town amenities. Haywire Bay Regional Park offers lakeside sites on Powell Lake, and Mermaid Cove at Saltery Bay Provincial Park provides forested sites close to the Saltery Bay ferry terminal. Saltery Bay Park was established in 1962 to provide ocean access on the Sunshine Coast of Georgia Strait. The mix of private, regional, and provincial sites gives RV renters flexibility on hookups, reservation windows, and proximity to town.

Reservation systems vary by operator. Provincial sites like Mermaid Cove at Saltery Bay Provincial Park book through the BC Parks reservation service, and only a portion of sites are reservable. Reservations are taken, through the BC Parks reservation system, for 21 of the 42 sites. When reservations are not available all campsites function as first-come, first-served, which favours mid-week arrivals in summer. Haywire Bay Regional Park operates differently. The regional district does not take reservations for single campsites; the policy is first-come, first-served. Campers select a campsite, set up, then report to the Self-Registration and Payment Station to make payment. Two group sites and one cabin can be reserved up to a year in advance by contacting the park caretaker during the camping season. Private campgrounds such as Garnet Rock Oceanside Resort, Willingdon Beach Campsite, and Seabreeze Resorts take direct bookings through their own websites; summer weekends fill early, so reserving several months ahead is advised.
