Camping near Burton, New Brunswick
Burton sits along the Saint John River in Sunbury County, directly across the water from Oromocto and about a twenty-minute drive southeast of Fredericton. The area works well as an RV base: it is close to CFB Gagetown, Highway 2 (the Trans-Canada), and the river corridor that links the capital region with the Grand Lake area. Most travelers use Burton as a stop on a longer Maritimes loop or as a weekend destination from the Fredericton area.
Private RV parks dominate the immediate area. Coy Lake Camping RV Park Ltd and Mohawk Camping are among the closest options, while Durham Bridge RV Resort Ltd. sits north of Fredericton along the Nashwaak River and Hartt Island RV Resort is on the Saint John River just west of the city. Oak Point Kiwanis Park extends the range downriver toward the Kingston Peninsula in Kings County.
Expect a mix of serviced pull-through sites suited to larger rigs, seasonal lots, and a smaller number of unserviced or tenting spots. The Saint John River and nearby lakes give the region its shoreline character, and several parks include swimming, boat launches, or water access.
Things to do around Burton
Water activities anchor most trips. The Saint John (Wolastoq) River and nearby lakes support kayaking, canoeing, powerboating, and freshwater fishing. Parks with direct water frontage, including Hartt Island RV Resort and Oak Point Kiwanis Park, make launching easy, and Hartt Island offers on-site canoe and kayak rentals plus riverside trails leading toward downtown Fredericton.
Families often split time between the campground and Fredericton, where the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, the Historic Garrison District, the downtown riverfront trail, and Kings Landing historical settlement are within a short drive. Mactaquac Provincial Park, west of the city, adds hiking and golf.
For day trips, Odell Park in Fredericton and the beaches and back roads around Grand Lake sit within easy reach. Durham Bridge RV Resort Ltd. puts the Nashwaak Valley cycling routes close to the door.

The RV season in the Burton area is short and clearly defined. Most private campgrounds open in mid-May, once overnight frosts have passed and services can be safely turned on, and they close in late September or early October. Hartt Island RV Resort, for example, typically operates from mid-May through the end of October. A handful of seasonal-focused parks may stretch into Thanksgiving weekend, weather depending.
July and August are peak. Weekends around Canada Day, the New Brunswick Day long weekend in early August, and Labour Day book up first, and full-hookup pull-throughs at the larger resorts tend to sell out earliest. June offers cooler evenings and fewer bugs than early summer often suggests, while September brings quieter sites and strong fall color along the Saint John River valley.
Winter camping is not a mainstream option here. Freshet flooding along the Saint John River can affect low-lying riverfront sites in April and early May, so travelers arriving early in the season should confirm the campground is open and unaffected.

How to book near Burton
Private parks around Burton handle their own reservations. Coy Lake Camping RV Park Ltd, Mohawk Camping, Durham Bridge RV Resort Ltd., and Hartt Island RV Resort each take bookings directly by phone, email, or through their own websites. Deposits are typically required, and long weekends often carry two or three night minimums.
Oak Point Kiwanis Park is community-run and also books directly. For New Brunswick provincial parks in the wider region, such as Mactaquac, reservations run through the Parcs NB reservation system, which typically opens in February for the coming summer and fills quickly for July and August dates.
For peak-season stays, reserve two to three months ahead. Shoulder-season midweek stays can often be arranged closer to the arrival date, though calling first is still recommended to confirm services are turned on.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Burton are generally level, gravel or grass, and set among mixed hardwood and softwood forest. Fifty-amp full-hookup service is available at the larger resorts such as Hartt Island RV Resort, while smaller parks may top out at thirty-amp. Cell coverage is reliable close to Highway 2 and the Oromocto and Fredericton corridors, but can weaken in more rural pockets north toward Durham Bridge.
Amenities scale with the park. Hartt Island RV Resort leans toward a full-service resort experience with an on-site water park, pool, and mini-golf, while Coy Lake Camping RV Park Ltd and Mohawk Camping keep things simpler and quieter. Groceries, propane, fuel, and RV supplies are all easily handled in Oromocto or Fredericton.
Biting insects, blackflies in late May and June and mosquitoes in July, are part of the experience. Bring repellent and expect cool nights even in midsummer.

Winters can bring ice and snow from late November through March, so most RV rentals run May to October. tourismnewbrunswick.ca/places-to-go/fredericton-river-valleyHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Burton RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure, you pay through RVezy at the time of booking using a credit card, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the RV) and released back to you after the trip, assuming no damage or extra cleaning is needed. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with the host at pickup and dropoff, take time-stamped photos, and return the RV with the fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement. Pro tip: review the listing's mileage, fuel, and cleaning policies carefully so there are no surprises on your Burton RV trip.
