Campgrounds and RV parks near Hopewell, NB

The main attraction is walking the ocean floor at low tide among the flowerpot sea stacks, then returning at high tide to see the same formations as islands. At Hopewell Rocks the tidal range is typically 10 to 12 metres, and at high tide the flower pots are islands while at low tide the ocean floor around them becomes a walking surface of smooth red sandstone, tidal pools, and seaweed. Guided kayak tours launch at high tide and paddle among the tops of the stacks. Inside Fundy National Park, families can hike to waterfalls, swim in a heated saltwater pool near Alma, and use the extensive trail network for biking. Fundy was designated by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada as a dark-sky preserve, making it a strong place to view the night sky. Alma village adds seafood restaurants, a small harbour, and tide-watching from the wharf.

The Hopewell Rocks visitor season is short. The park typically operates from mid-May through late October, and the stairways to the ocean floor are opened and closed by park staff according to tide conditions, so arrival before low tide is strongly recommended to reach the ocean floor. Private campgrounds near Hopewell follow a similar window, with most operating from mid-May into October. July and August are peak season, with the warmest weather, the longest daylight, and the busiest tide-viewing windows. Late May, June, and September are quieter and still offer full access to the rocks and to Fundy National Park facilities. Coastal fog is common along the Bay of Fundy in early summer, and evenings stay cool even in July. Outside the operating season the provincial park gates and services close, boardwalks and safety cables are removed, and access is at the visitor's own risk. Most RV parks in the area drain their systems by late October and do not reopen until spring.

Sites near Hopewell range from open, big-rig-friendly pull-throughs to wooded back-in spots under mature trees. Full hookups are common at the larger private parks, while Fundy National Park offers a mix of fully serviced, electric-and-water, and unserviced sites. Chignecto sits on the highlands 4 km northwest of the park headquarters, and because it is further away from the Bay of Fundy, fog is a rare occurrence there compared with coastal sites. Expect cellular coverage to be inconsistent once off Route 114. Grocery selection is limited in Hopewell Cape itself; Riverview and Moncton, roughly 30 to 40 minutes north, are the practical stops for provisioning. Bring layers, bug spray for wooded sites, and a tide chart to plan visits to the rocks around low water.
