Campgrounds and RV parks near New Bandon, NB

The Chaleur Bay shoreline is the main draw. Families spend days on the beaches at Grande-Anse, Stonehaven, and Janeville, and stop at coastal viewpoints along Route 11 and Route 320. Kayaking, clam digging at low tide, and shore fishing are all common summer activities. Cultural stops anchor the region. Village Historique Acadien is a living museum portraying the daily lives of the Acadians from 1770 to 1949, in operation from June to September, with about forty historic buildings along a 2.2 km trail staffed by bilingual interpreters. Caraquet hosts an Acadian festival in mid-August with street music and dancing. Inland, cyclists use the Véloroute de la Péninsule acadienne, and Sugarloaf Provincial Park near Campbellton offers mountain biking and hiking within a longer day trip. Lighthouses at Grande-Anse and Pokeshaw Rock make easy short outings for RV families.

The camping season on the Acadian Peninsula is short and concentrated. Most private campgrounds and provincial parks operate roughly from late May through mid-September, with the busiest weeks running from the Canada Day long weekend through mid-August. Water at Chaleur Bay is warmest in late July and August, when air temperatures typically sit in the low twenties Celsius. Shoulder seasons carry trade-offs. Late May and June bring longer daylight, quieter sites, and fewer bugs on the coast than inland, but water is still cold and some services open gradually. September delivers stable weather and fall colour by month's end, though many seasonal businesses begin closing after Labour Day. Winter shuts down camping infrastructure across the region. Bathurst receives significant precipitation year round, averaging around 1238 mm annually, with October the wettest month at about 118 mm and February the driest at about 89 mm. Snow cover is reliable from December into March, and roads to smaller coastal communities can drift in during storms.

Expect small, family-run campgrounds rather than large resort parks. Most sites near New Bandon are grass or gravel pads with 30-amp service; a smaller share offer 50-amp or full hookups, so confirm rig requirements when booking. Cell coverage is generally reliable along Route 11 and thins on some secondary coastal roads. The region is officially bilingual and predominantly Francophone. Staff at campgrounds, restaurants, and attractions typically speak both French and English, but a few polite French phrases go a long way. Grocery, fuel, and propane are easiest to top up in Bathurst or Caraquet; smaller villages have limited hours. Bring layers, insect repellent for June and early July, and beach shoes for rocky shorelines. Black flies and mosquitoes ease near the open coast but persist in wooded inland sites.
