Campgrounds and RV parks near Queensbury, NB

The Saint John River and Mactaquac headpond drive most of the recreation here. Fishing is a common draw at Great Bear Campground for smallmouth bass and muskellunge, and paddling on flat headpond water is popular from Heritage Country Camping and Mariner's Point RV Park. Mactaquac Provincial Park offers an 18-hole championship golf course, freshwater beaches, and treetop aerial adventures, along with an extensive network of hiking trails and a tranquil beaver pond nature reserve. Kings Landing Historical Settlement is a short drive from Queensbury, and the town of Nackawic, home to the world's largest axe, is close by to the west. Fredericton's downtown, farmers market, and river-trail cycling paths are within easy day-trip range.

The private campgrounds in the Queensbury area generally run from mid-May through mid-October, tracking the frost-free window of the upper Saint John River Valley. Mactaquac Provincial Park's campground offers RV and tent camping by reservation between mid-May and September, and the park is open for all four seasons, with winter camping sites available for those wishing to extend their adventure into the colder months. July and August are peak, with warm river water, the longest days, and heavy demand at Mactaquac and the nearby private parks. Sites for summer weekends and holiday long weekends often book weeks ahead. Bugs are heaviest in June, easing through July. Shoulder seasons are quieter and cooler. Late May and early June bring rising water and green-up, while September delivers warm days, cool nights, and fall color along the river valley through mid-October. Winter shifts the park to skating on the frozen duck pond or along the forest skating trail, with rental equipment available for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking.

Expect a quiet, rural river-valley setting rather than a resort scene. Cell service is generally reliable along Route 105 and Route 102 but can be patchy on side roads and in wooded loops. The nearest full-service grocery, fuel, and propane are in Nackawic and in the Hanwell and Fredericton areas. Sites vary considerably. Mactaquac's campground provides sites in both open and wooded areas, with hot showers and kitchen shelters, while private parks like Heritage Country Camping and Great Bear Campground lean toward serviced RV sites with a strong seasonal-camper community. Water at some private parks may not be potable, so carrying drinking water is a good idea. Roads in are paved and RV-friendly, but the river valley is hilly, and some campground driveways are narrow. Bring bug spray, layers for cool nights, and reservations booked in advance for July and August.
