Campgrounds and RV parks near Upper Miramichi, NB

Fly fishing dominates the calendar on the Miramichi system. The fly-fishing season on the Miramichi River runs for six months from the opening on April 15 until closing on October 15, the longest fishing season for Atlantic salmon in the world. New Brunswick regulations require that Atlantic salmon be fished only with a fly, and all non-residents require a licensed guide while fishing for Atlantic salmon. Beyond fishing, the river corridor supports canoeing, kayaking, tubing, and swimming through summer. Forested crown land opens up hiking, ATV riding, and hunting in season, and the region connects to a large snowmobile trail network in winter. Day trips work well from an RV base here. Mactaquac Provincial Park to the southwest offers a beach, golf, and hiking. To the northeast, French Fort Cove in Miramichi has walking trails, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boats, and a playground, which suits families travelling with kids.

The RV season in central New Brunswick is short and concentrated. Most private parks open in May and close in early to mid October, tracking the fishing calendar and the frost-free window. Spring fishing pulls in serious anglers first: the Atlantic salmon season runs from April 15 through October 15 on much of the Miramichi, with prime time for spring salmon fishing between April 15 and May 15. Nights can still drop below freezing in April and early May, so full four-season rigs are a real advantage that early. July and August are peak family months, with warm days, warm river water, and the busiest campground weekends. Book well ahead for long weekends. Mid-summer heat can also trigger fishing restrictions: a Warm Water Protocol is in effect on the Miramichi, developed with provincial partners and watershed groups to implement angling restrictions when the water warms up. Fall brings cooler nights, foliage, and the fall salmon run through September and into October. After mid-October most private campgrounds close, provincial parks wind down, and winter camping is limited to a small number of hardy operations.

Expect a rural, forested experience. Cell coverage is spotty away from Route 8 and the main river valleys, and long stretches of highway pass through crown forest with limited services. Fuel up in Fredericton, Boiestown, or Miramichi rather than counting on small communities in between. Black flies and mosquitoes are active from late May into July, so bring repellent and screens. Site formats vary. Riverside private parks on the Nashwaak, Saint John, and Miramichi systems tend to offer a mix of full-hookup, water and electric, and unserviced sites, with dump stations, laundry, and firewood on site. Larger operations such as Hartt Island RV Resort near Fredericton add a pool, playground, and event programming, which works well for families. Wildlife is common. Deer, moose, and black bear all live in the area, so store food securely and follow campground rules on garbage.
