Campgrounds and RV parks near Wellington, NB

The Bouctouche dune, a long sand spit reaching into the Gulf of St. Lawrence, is the area's signature attraction, with a boardwalk over the marsh, birdwatching, and swimming beaches at the base. The town of Bouctouche adds Acadian cultural sites, seafood restaurants, and a working harbour. Kouchibouguac National Park features warm beaches and vibrant estuaries, along with forests, wetlands, and a Dark Sky Preserve. Day-trippers from Wellington can access Kellys Beach, plus cycling paths and paddling routes on the lagoons. The park has more than 56 kilometres of gentle bike trails and stargazing programs in summer. Closer to camp, families staying at the private campgrounds along Bouctouche Bay have easy walking access to beaches on the bay. Shediac and Parlee Beach are within an hour's drive for a longer beach day.

Peak camping season on the Acadian coast runs from late June through August, when Gulf of St. Lawrence water temperatures are at their warmest. The bay's water temperature peaks near 19 C in August, making mid- to late-summer ideal for swimming families. July and August also bring the largest crowds and the tightest availability at both private and national-park sites. Shoulder months are workable but variable. Late May and early June can still be cool and buggy, while September often delivers warm days and quieter campgrounds. December is typically the wettest month, near 120 mm of precipitation, while summer rain arrives mostly as short showers rather than washouts. Most private campgrounds in the Bouctouche area operate roughly mid-May to mid-October. South Kouchibouguac Campground runs from mid-May to about mid-October as well. Winter camping is not offered at the local private parks; the region is snowbound from December through March, and RV renters should plan trips within the open-season window.

Terrain along the Wellington and Bouctouche shoreline is flat to gently rolling, with sandy soils, salt marshes, and mixed Acadian forest. Roads into most private campgrounds are paved to the entrance and gravel inside. Sites vary from open, grassy pull-throughs to shaded wooded spots. Hookup levels vary by park. Full-service sites with 30 amp power are common at the nearby private campgrounds along Bouctouche Bay. At Kouchibouguac, South Kouchibouguac offers electric-only and full-hookup sites with a 35-foot RV length limit, while Côte-à-Fabien is unserviced. Campers with larger rigs can contact the park to check availability. Expect biting insects in early summer, warm humid afternoons in July and August, and cool nights year-round. Importing firewood into Kouchibouguac is prohibited due to the risk of the brown spruce longhorn beetle; firewood can be purchased at the campground kiosk.
