The main draw is the Northumberland Strait shoreline, which offers some of the warmest ocean swimming in Atlantic Canada. Murray Beach's unsupervised, warm saltwater and sandy beach is the perfect place to go beachcombing, and low tide exposes long sand bars for walking. Day trips are straightforward. Murray Beach Provincial Park is located in the southeastern end of New Brunswick, just a short distance from the Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island, making PEI a realistic afternoon outing if travellers plan for bridge tolls on the return. The nearby Cape Jourimain Nature Centre covers the salt marsh and migratory bird habitat at the bridge approach. Hiking is modest but scenic. The 1.3 km Murray Beach trail consists of large rocks and red soil, waterfalls, and beaches, and is an easy one-way route of about 30 minutes. At Amherst Shore, the main hiking trail is 2.5 km long and follows Annabelles Brook through the coastal woods out to the unsupervised beach, where red sandstone cliffs tower about 12 metres above the strait.

The camping season in this corner of the Maritimes is short and clearly defined. Murray Beach operates from May 15 to September 20, and it is busiest in high summer and around Canadian holidays. Amherst Shore, on the Nova Scotia side, runs a similar window: the 2026 operating season is June 5 to October 12. Early-season conditions can be cool and damp. Although the weather can be fine in May, the best bet for warm beach days is from mid-June onwards, as it may still be a bit chilly and damp before that; early fall can still be hot and sunny, and a September booking will be less busy. Bug pressure and wind are worth planning for. Set right on the beach with little tree coverage, the Murray Beach campground can get windy, so guy ropes need tethering. Because wetlands sit close to Murray Beach Provincial Park, mosquitoes can be a problem, especially at dusk. Late fall through winter, provincial campgrounds are closed and services along the coast thin out.

Sites in this area lean coastal and rustic rather than resort-style. At Murray Beach, Terrain De Camping 2 is home to campsites 55 to 111, all serviced with 50/30 amp electrical hookups, with wider campsites for larger RVs and motorhomes, privacy, and decent shade. Cell coverage along the shore is generally usable but can be patchy inside heavy tree cover. Amherst Shore is more wooded and quieter. Most sites are loops with a few back-ins, spacious and widely spaced with trees separating them; water is available at one spot for RVs, with a dump station but no electricity at those sites. Pets are welcome in most locations but restricted from beach areas. Plan for the essentials before arrival. A vehicle is required to access this secluded park, as there are no transit options. Stock groceries and propane in Shediac, Sackville, or Amherst on the way in.
