McIvers sits on the north shore of the Bay of Islands on Newfoundland's west coast, within an hour of Corner Brook and about a two-hour drive south of Gros Morne National Park. The location gives RV travellers a practical base for two very different camping regions: the coastal peninsulas of the Bay of Islands and the fjords, tablelands and coastal barrens of Gros Morne. Blow Me Down Provincial Park is the closest developed campground, located off Route 450 about 60 km west of Corner Brook on a peninsula between Lark Harbour and York Harbour at the mouth of the Bay of Islands. I spent 10 days travelling around the island in “The Noplanvan” and it was incredible! Easy to drive and park. It’s compact and basic but has a very comfortable bed and the cooler worked great for my needs. Temperatures ranged from 4-22 degrees during the nights of my stay. I had plenty of blankets to stay warm and the fan worked great for the warmer nights. All your basic camping essentials were in the van or Thule. Kyle was very accommodating, responsive and gave some great recommendations! I would definitely book again.

Gros Morne National Park campgrounds are booked through the Parks Canada Reservation Service. Sites in the park should be booked well in advance once the launch date is announced early in the year, typically in late winter, and booking on opening day is recommended for the best selection. All camping in Gros Morne is operated by Parks Canada, and every front-country campground, including Lomond, is now reservable through the online system. A national park entry pass is required in addition to camping fees.
