Campgrounds and RV parks near Alliston, ON

At Earl Rowe Provincial Park, the lake is the main draw, with a sandy beach for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating. Canoe and paddleboat rentals are available on site, and the trail system includes the paved Fletcher's Mill Pond loop and the longer Rainbow Run, an 11 km route that connects fishing spots, the park store, and the swimming pool. For hiking, Mono Cliffs Provincial Park is the standout. The Spillway Trail and Cliff-Top Side Trail are the most popular routes, and the park supports hiking, cycling, cross-country skiing, and horseback riding on designated trails. At Nicolston Dam, the Nottawasaga River is the centerpiece. Visitors can fish for trout or salmon at the park's fish ladder, or hire canoes, paddleboards, or kayaks. The town of Alliston itself has groceries, restaurants, and a movie theatre within a five-minute drive of the closer campgrounds.

Earl Rowe's Riverside Campground operates from roughly early May to mid-October, while the Westside Campground runs only during peak season from June through September. That window defines the practical RV season for the area: most private campgrounds run a similar mid-spring to early-fall calendar. Nicolston Dam typically opens May 1 and runs through October 31, with a pre-and-post-season window in early May to late June and again from early September to close. July and August bring the warmest weather, busiest sites, and the full Discovery program at Earl Rowe, with naturalist sessions and workshops included with a campsite or daily vehicle permit. Spring shoulder weeks are quieter but cooler, and some amenities open progressively through May and June. Fall brings cooler nights, fewer bugs, and salmon visible from Nicolston Dam's riverfront sites and Earl Rowe's fish ladder. Earl Rowe remains open year-round for day use, with trails and roads used for winter hiking and snowshoeing. Mono Cliffs also stays open in all four seasons for day-use hiking and snowshoeing when conditions allow.

Earl Rowe has the standard Ontario Parks setup: gatehouse check-in, printed map, firewood for sale, and comfort stations with showers, water taps, and laundry near the main loops. Electrical hookups are available in Heydon Way on the Riverside side and Fletcher's Field on the Westside, while loops such as Salmon Run, Rabbit Loop, and Blue Heron are non-electrical and tent-oriented. Blue Heron is the park's radio-free loop. There are no individual water hookups at sites; a dump and fill station serves each campground. Nicolston Dam is a private river-valley campground with 15 and 30 amp hookups and water at sites, plus a heated pool, playgrounds, dog area, mini-golf, laundry, and store. Sewer hookups are not available because the park sits in a protected conservation zone. Sites are grassy with a mix of shade and sun. Cell service is reliable across the area, and the town of Alliston is about five minutes from Earl Rowe.
