Campgrounds near Harriston
Harriston sits in Wellington County in southwestern Ontario, at the edge of the Grey and Bruce County camping belt. RV travellers use it as a base for parks along the Saugeen River, the beaches of Lakelet Lake, and the wider Grey-Bruce region north toward Owen Sound. Most nearby campgrounds are privately operated, with a smaller number run by the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority.
Shamadon RV Resort, near Ayton in West Grey County, offers over 130 full-hookup sites on a 127-acre property with 30 and 50 amp service and cement pads suited to big rigs. Silent Valley, a Parkbridge Cottage and RV Resort, sits within 400 forested acres and centres on a 20-acre spring-fed lake with sandy beaches. Saugeen Cedars Family Campground fronts the Saugeen River near Hanover, and Driftwood Beach Park is set on Lakelet Lake west of Clifford.
Durham Conservation Area, run by the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, rounds out the mix with serviced and non-serviced sites along the Saugeen River near McGowan Falls.
Things to do around Harriston
The Saugeen River is the region's main draw for RV families. Saugeen Cedars runs a shuttle that drops guests upriver for tubing, canoe, and kayak floats back to the campground. Lakelet Lake, at Driftwood Beach Park, is spring-fed and reaches over 40 feet deep, holding bass, perch, and trout, with sandy shallows suited to younger swimmers.
Durham Conservation Area covers roughly 150 acres with over three kilometres of Saugeen River frontage, McGowan Falls, and 3.8 km of easy trails used for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Unlimited disc golf is included with camping and day-use fees during the disc golf season, which runs from the last Friday in April to Thanksgiving Monday.
On-site amenities at the private resorts include heated pools, playgrounds, and dog parks.

The core RV season in the Harriston area runs from Victoria Day weekend in May through Thanksgiving in October. Silent Valley operates from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving, and Driftwood Beach Park runs from May to October. Durham Conservation Area accepts online reservations from February 1 through Thanksgiving for the summer season.
July and August are the warmest and driest-feeling months and also the busiest. Weekend transient sites at popular river-front parks like Saugeen Cedars sell out well in advance, and long weekends fill first. Spring and early fall are quieter and cooler, with fall bringing colour along the Saugeen valley trails.
Winter camping is a narrower window. Durham Conservation Area has offered winterized transient and seasonal sites from mid-November into late March, with approximately 30 serviced 30-amp sites and 30 non-serviced sites. Most private resorts in the area are closed outside the May to October window.

How to book
Reservation systems differ by operator. Durham Conservation Area is booked through the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority's online reservation portal, which opens each year on February 1 and covers the summer season through Thanksgiving. Winter sites at Durham are handled through the same authority.
Private parks each run their own booking. Shamadon RV Resort and Saugeen Cedars accept reservations directly through their websites, and Silent Valley bookings are handled by Parkbridge. Many of these parks sell a large share of their inventory as seasonal sites, leaving a smaller pool of transient sites for weekend RV renters.
For July, August, and any long weekend, book eight to twelve weeks ahead. Confirm hookup type, amp service, and maximum rig length at the time of booking, especially for older park loops with tighter interior roads.
What to expect
Sites in the Harriston area range from full-service, big-rig pull-throughs on cement pads at Shamadon RV Resort to treed, riverfront, or open sites at Saugeen Cedars Family Campground, plus mixed serviced and non-serviced loops at Durham Conservation Area. Electrical service at most private resorts is 30 amp, with 50 amp available at some sites at Shamadon.
Cell coverage is generally reliable through Grey and Wellington counties. Several campgrounds provide Wi-Fi, though speeds drop during peak season. Grocery, fuel, and hardware runs are easy from Mount Forest, Durham, Hanover, and Harriston itself.
Expect a family-oriented atmosphere. Quiet hours are enforced at most parks, and pets are typically welcome on leash. Firewood is often sold on site, and cross-border transport is discouraged for pest control.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Harriston, ON
How much does an RV rental in Harriston cost, and how can I save?
RV rental in Harriston is one of the more affordable ways to explore Wellington County. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers from around $100 to $175 CAD per night, Class C motorhomes between $200 and $325 CAD per night, and larger Class A coaches a bit higher. Because Harriston is a rural community in the Town of Minto, prices tend to be friendlier than Toronto or Kitchener listings, making it a smart base for travellers looking for a cheap RV rental in Harriston. To save more, book mid-week, travel in May or September shoulder season, and use the price filter to compare options. Pro tip: a 3 to 5 night booking often unlocks weekly discounts hosts set on their listings.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Harriston%2C%20OntarioWhat licence do I need to rent an RV in Harriston, Ontario?
Good news: a regular Ontario Class G driver's licence is all you need to rent an RV in Harriston for nearly every motorhome, campervan, and travel trailer on RVezy. No special RV licence, air brake endorsement, or commercial licence is required for standard recreational vehicles in Ontario. Approved renters on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified right inside the booking flow, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home licence (an International Driving Permit is recommended if it isn't in English or French) and you're set to start your Harriston RV trip through the rolling farmland of Minto.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my booking protected if something goes wrong on the trip?
Yes, every RV rental in Harriston booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 9 or Highway 89 with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout, and the plan provides coverage for eligible damage during your trip along with dedicated support if anything unexpected pops up. Pro tip: pick your protection tier at booking based on how far you're going, then record a quick walkthrough video at pickup so any pre-existing scuffs are clearly documented before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Harriston RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy platform-wide, so every rental in Harriston follows the same clear rules rather than host-by-host terms. There's a money-back grace period right after you book, with additional refund options depending on how far in advance you cancel. Because the policy considers several factors, you'll always see the most current details on the RVezy Help Center before you confirm. Pro tip: book a little earlier than you think you need to. That way you get the best selection of Minto-area RVs and the most flexibility if your plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Harriston RV trip?
Absolutely. A pet-friendly RV rental in Harriston is easy to find on RVezy: just tick the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see every motorhome and trailer where dogs (and sometimes cats) are welcome. Once you're on the road, your pup will love the area. The Harriston Greenway Trail along the Maitland River is leash-friendly and shady, and the Grand River Conservation Authority allows leashed pets at Conestogo Lake Conservation Area campsites. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees and house rules so check-in is smooth and your dog gets to start the adventure with you.
grandriver.ca/en/outdoor-recreation/Conestogo-Lake.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in or near Harriston?
Yes, RV delivery in Harriston is widely offered by local hosts. Many owners in Minto, Mount Forest, Listowel, and Palmerston will deliver your motorhome or trailer directly to your campsite, cottage, or driveway, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. This is popular for first-time renters and for families heading to Conestogo Lake Conservation Area where towing a trailer through gravel loops can feel intimidating. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery, then message the host with your destination address. They'll quote a delivery fee based on distance, and you can simply show up, unpack groceries, and start the trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037960453-Understanding-RV-deliveryHow far can I realistically drive on a Harriston RV rental?
You can cover a lot of Ontario from Harriston without burning a whole day on the road. Sauble Beach on Lake Huron is about 100 km north (around 1 hour 15 minutes), Tobermory and Bruce Peninsula National Park sit roughly 200 km away (about 2.5 hours), Algonquin Provincial Park's west gate is about 300 km (around 4 hours), and downtown Toronto is roughly 175 km (about 2 hours) southeast. Every host on RVezy sets their own mileage policy, and you'll find plenty offering generous daily kilometre allowances or even an RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: map your route before booking and message hosts with your total kilometres so they can confirm the best mileage package for your RV road trip from Harriston.
parks.canada.ca/pn-np/on/bruceWhere are the best campgrounds near Harriston for RV camping?
You're spoiled for choice. Conestogo Lake Conservation Area near Mapleton (about 35 minutes south) has serviced and unserviced sites across the Ash and Maples campgrounds, plus a trailer dump station. Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area near Paisley adds river views and equestrian trails about an hour northwest, and Inverhuron Provincial Park on Lake Huron is roughly 90 minutes away with sunset beach sites. MacGregor Point Provincial Park, near Port Elgin, is another excellent option with electrical sites and full amenities. Pro tip: book Conestogo Lake five months in advance through the Grand River Conservation Authority reservation system for the best waterfront pads.
grandriver.ca/en/outdoor-recreation/Conestogo-Lake.aspxWhen is the best time of year to plan an RV trip from Harriston?
Late May through early October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Harriston, with daytime highs ranging from about 18°C in May to 26°C in July and August, then easing back to 15°C by late September. July offers the warmest swimming weather at nearby lakes, while late September delivers spectacular fall colours through the Maitland Valley and quieter campgrounds. Winters in this part of Wellington County are genuinely cold (often -10°C to -20°C with heavy lake-effect snow), so most hosts pause bookings from November to April. Pro tip: aim for the second week of September. The water is still warm enough to swim, the bugs are gone, and you'll often find better nightly rates than peak summer.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Harriston?
You'll be just fine, and Harriston is actually one of the friendliest places in Ontario for first time renting an RV. The roads around Minto, like Highway 9, Highway 89, and Wellington Road 109, are flat, wide, and lightly trafficked, so you can build confidence before hitting busier routes. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving tips, hookups, slides, the propane system, and dumping, and you're welcome to text them with questions mid-trip. Pro tip: practice a few right-hand turns and a parking-lot reverse at the Minto-Clifford Community Complex lot before heading to your campsite. Ten minutes of practice makes campground arrival completely stress-free.
ontario.ca/document/official-mto-drivers-handbookWhat happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue?
You're never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Harriston booked on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're dealing with a flat tire on Highway 6 north of Mount Forest, a dead battery at Conestogo Lake, or a propane question at 10 p.m. Your host is also a direct message away through the RVezy app and knows their vehicle inside out. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number to your phone before leaving the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN plate. That two-minute step gets you back on the road faster if anything ever comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Harriston rental across the border into the U.S.?
Cross-border trips can absolutely work, but they need to be cleared with your host before you book because RVezy insurance coverage applies in Canada and the continental United States only. Many Wellington County hosts say yes to popular runs like Niagara Falls to Buffalo, the Detroit/Windsor crossing, or a longer route through Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Message the host directly from the listing page, share your dates and destinations, and they'll confirm any extra paperwork. One firm rule: travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental, as insurance does not extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport, vehicle registration, and a signed permission letter from the host. Canada Border Services and U.S. Customs both appreciate the paper trail.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on a Harriston RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for. Expect a Class C motorhome to use roughly 18 to 22 L/100km, a Class B campervan rental in Harriston about 13 to 16 L/100km, and a truck-and-trailer combo around 20 to 25 L/100km depending on size. Gas in Harriston typically tracks with the Ontario average, often a few cents cheaper than Toronto. Local fill-up spots include stations on Elora Street in Harriston and in Mount Forest, about 20 minutes north. For a weekend round trip to Sauble Beach (about 200 km), budget roughly $70 to $110 in fuel. Pro tip: download the GasBuddy app and fill up in Listowel or Palmerston, where prices often dip below the regional average.
oeb.ca/consumer-information-and-protection/gasoline-pricesHow far ahead should I reserve a campground near Harriston?
For the best sites, plan ahead, but you've still got options if you're a last-minute traveller. Grand River Conservation Authority campgrounds like Conestogo Lake open reservations up to five months in advance through their online booking system, and waterfront sites for July and August long weekends often go within hours. Ontario Parks (Inverhuron, MacGregor Point, Pinery) use the Ontario Parks reservation service with a five-month rolling window. Private parks typically take direct bookings and are usually easier to grab on shorter notice. Pro tip: if your dates are locked in for a holiday weekend, set a calendar reminder for exactly five months out at 7 a.m. Eastern. That's when reservations drop and the best Maitland Valley sites disappear fastest.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are the local driving conditions like around Harriston?
Driving an RV around Harriston is genuinely relaxing compared to most of southern Ontario. The roads through Minto are flat, well-paved, and rarely congested, with Highway 9, Highway 89, and Wellington Road 109 forming the main spine. Watch for slow-moving farm equipment and horse-drawn buggies, especially on county roads heading toward Drayton and Listowel, and keep an eye out for deer at dawn and dusk. Winter brings serious lake-effect snow off Lake Huron from December to March, so most RV trips happen May through October. Pro tip: check Ontario 511 before you head out for any road closures or construction, and slow right down at narrow rail underpasses. Locals are patient with RVs and will wave you through.
511on.ca/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Harriston?
Most campgrounds within an hour of Harriston are well set up for RVs. Conestogo Lake Conservation Area offers serviced sites with electrical hookups, comfort stations with hot showers, potable water taps, and a trailer dump station. Ontario Parks like Inverhuron and MacGregor Point offer electrical sites, flush toilets, showers, and dump stations. Private parks in the area typically add full-hookup options with water, sewer, electrical, plus laundry and Wi-Fi near the office. Pro tip: top up your fresh water tank before leaving Harriston since some smaller conservation areas only have communal taps, and bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose for flexibility.
grandriver.ca/en/outdoor-recreation/Conestogo-Lake.aspxWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Harriston?
Even the smaller rigs on RVezy come surprisingly well equipped. A standard Class C motorhome rental in Harriston typically sleeps 4 to 7 with a queen bed over the cab, a convertible dinette, a full kitchen (3-burner propane stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, sink), a wet bath with toilet and shower, roof A/C, a furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many listings add a generator, outdoor speakers, a TV, and even Wi-Fi for streaming Maitland Valley sunsets back home. Travel trailers offer similar layouts without the drive-cab. Pro tip: use the Sleeps filter to match your group size, then check the listing photos for must-haves like an outdoor kitchen, perfect for evening cookouts.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Harriston%2C%20OntarioWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in the Harriston area offer some genuinely useful extras that make a family RV trip Harriston families remember. Common add-ons include camping kits (linens, towels, dishes), bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards perfect for Conestogo Lake, propane fire pits (a smart pick during Wellington County fire bans), generators, and pet packages. Most hosts offer flexible pickup windows in the afternoon and dropoff before late morning, and many provide delivery within 50 km for a per-kilometre fee. Mileage policies vary by host, with daily kilometre allowances common and unlimited-mileage listings available too. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking rather than at pickup. Hosts can prep the RV ahead of time and you save time at handover.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037960453-Understanding-RV-deliveryHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform: you pay by credit card at booking, with no cash or e-transfers exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before your trip starts (the exact amount is shown on the listing) and is separate from your booking payment. If the RV comes back in the same condition, the hold is released after the trip; if there's an issue, the renter protection plan you selected helps cover eligible damages. Pro tip: record a thorough walkthrough video at both pickup and dropoff, send it to the host through the RVezy app, and you'll avoid the vast majority of deposit disputes on your Harriston rental.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV overnight in or near Harriston if I'm not at a campground?
You've got more options than you'd think. The Town of Minto generally allows short-term RV parking on private residential driveways, which makes RVezy delivery to a friend or family member's home in Harriston, Palmerston, or Clifford an easy plan. Overnight parking in municipal lots and on town streets isn't permitted, so plan to be at a campground, conservation area, or private driveway by nightfall. Need a transition stop? Some retail locations along Highway 23 in Listowel or in Owen Sound may permit a one-night stay with manager approval, so always ask first. Pro tip: for a true Minto experience, book a serviced site at Conestogo Lake and use Harriston as your launch point. You'll wake up to misty lake mornings instead of parking-lot floodlights.
