Campgrounds and RV parks near Huron-Kinloss, ON

The main draws are Lake Huron beaches and the Point Clark Lighthouse. Point Clark Lighthouse was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1966, and it is one of six Imperial Towers built by contractor John Brown on Lake Huron and Georgian Bay in the 1850s. The lighthouse tower and adjacent lightkeeper's house museum are open for paid daily guided tours from late June through Labour Day, with the first tour at 10:30 am and the last at 4:30 pm, every half hour. Beach days are the other core activity. Boiler Beach is known for the remains of the Erie Belle boiler, a Great Lakes steamer that exploded near shore in 1883. Point Clark's beach next to the lighthouse is a common spot for sunset viewing, and Kincardine's downtown, harbour, and summer pipe-band evenings are a short drive north for a change of pace.

The RV season along this stretch of Lake Huron runs roughly May through October, following the provincial-park calendar. Point Farms offers car camping in two campgrounds, Colborne and Huron, both open May to October, with the Colborne Campground able to accommodate all equipment types and several pull-through sites available. Inverhuron Provincial Park's camping season typically runs from late April to early November. Private parks in the township follow a similar warm-weather calendar. July and August are the peak. Beaches are busy, the lighthouse is open for tours, and lakeside campsites book out well ahead. Ontario Parks has reduced the maximum length of stay for campground sites at select parks from 23 nights to seven or 14 nights during the busiest season, running from July 1 to the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend. Late spring and early fall are quieter, with cooler lake water but easier bookings and better site selection. Winter closes the campgrounds. Point Farms is officially closed in the winter, though cross-country skiing and hiking are permitted on roads and trails, and there is no RV camping in the immediate area during those months.

Sites in this area range from open, grassy private-park pads to treed, well-separated provincial-park sites. At Inverhuron, the park has three campgrounds with a range of features including electrical service and pull-through sites suited to larger RVs, campsites are well separated and private, and all sites are treed, spacious, and level. Large private sites may mean an extra long extension cord is needed to reach the electrical pedestal. At Point Farms, there are a total of 200 campsites, 131 with electric hook-ups, and the Huron Campground is radio-free. Comfort stations with showers and flush toilets are located in the Huron and Colborne campgrounds, and a coin laundry is available in both. Cell reception can be spotty inside the provincial parks, and there are no lifeguards on duty at park beaches. Firewood is sold on-site to help limit the spread of pests.
