Campgrounds and RV parks near Mattice-Val Côté, ON

Mattice-Val Côté is a small township on Highway 11 in Northeastern Ontario's Cochrane District, split by the Missinaibi River. The town sits along a historic fur-trade route and serves as a common put-in and take-out for canoeists paddling the upper or lower Missinaibi. RV travellers use it as a base for boreal forest camping, walleye and northern pike fishing, and river-country day trips. Most campground options in the area are Ontario Parks properties or small private operators. Fushimi Lake Provincial Park sits northwest of Hearst and offers electrical campsites plus water-access backcountry sites. Rene Brunelle Provincial Park, on Remi Lake near Moonbeam, is the larger recreational park east of Mattice, with electrical sites, four sandy beaches, and equipment rentals. Missinaibi Outfitters in Mattice handles shuttles and outfitting for paddlers, and Twin Lakes Camping is a nearby private option. The region is remote. Cell coverage is patchy off Highway 11, distances between services are long, and provisioning should be done in Hearst or Kapuskasing before heading to a site.

Ontario Parks handles reservations for both Fushimi Lake and Rene Brunelle through its central system, online or by phone. Campsites, roofed accommodation, and Fushimi Lake backcountry sites are all campsite-specific and can be reserved up to five months in advance of the arrival date. Popular waterfront and electrical sites go quickly when that window opens. Rene Brunelle also accepts direct calls to the park office. Missinaibi River is different. Campsites along the river are first-come, first-served and are not reservable. Interior camping permits are required and can be purchased online through Ontario Parks up to two weeks in advance of arrival, or obtained in person from the park office or a local issuer.
