Campgrounds and RV parks near Moonbeam, ON

Moonbeam is a small francophone township in Ontario's Cochrane District, in Northeastern Ontario, best known to travellers for the roadside UFO statue on Highway 11. RV travellers use it as a base for the surrounding lakes, boreal forest, and the James Bay drainage waterways. Kapuskasing sits roughly a half-hour drive west for groceries, fuel, and larger supply runs. The anchor campground is Rene Brunelle Provincial Park, an Ontario Parks site on Remi Lake covering roughly 3,015 hectares. The park has around 100 campsites split between the East Bay and smaller Owl's Nest campgrounds, with the majority serviced with electricity, plus five walk-in tent-only sites near Campers Beach. Twin Lakes Camping sits closer to town and offers a smaller private-park option. Further afield, Missinaibi Outfitters serves paddlers heading into the Missinaibi River system, and Big Water Campground provides another private option for RVers travelling the Highway 11 corridor.

Rene Brunelle Provincial Park is booked through the Ontario Parks reservation system at reservations.ontarioparks.ca or by phone. Reservations are accepted up to five months in advance of the arrival date, with new inventory releasing at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time exactly five months out. Full payment of camping fees is required at the time the reservation is made, and the campsite permit holder must be sixteen years of age or older. Rene Brunelle is not one of Ontario's most competitive parks, so lakeside and electrical sites are often still available within a few weeks of the trip for midweek stays. Long weekends fill faster. Seasonal site rental is also available for repeat visitors. Private options such as Twin Lakes Camping, Missinaibi Outfitters, and Big Water Campground are booked directly with the operator by phone or website.
