Campgrounds and RV parks near Englehart, ON

Englehart sits in the Timiskaming District of northeastern Ontario, roughly midway between North Bay and Cochrane along the Highway 11 corridor. The surrounding landscape is boreal forest and Canadian Shield: lakes carved by glaciers, low ridges, and the Blanche River cutting through town. For RV travellers, the area works as either a destination for fishing and paddling or an overnight stop on the long haul north. Campground options fall into two groups. Provincially operated Esker Lakes Provincial Park, about an hour northwest near Kirkland Lake, offers a drive-in campground with electrical and non-electrical sites plus interior canoe-in sites. Ontario Parks handles reservations for Esker Lakes Provincial Park online or by phone up to five months ahead of the arrival date. Both drive-in electrical and non-electrical sites can be reserved; backcountry interior permits are obtained in person at the park office during business hours. More than half of Esker Lakes' drive-in sites are electrical. Private campgrounds handle their own bookings directly. Sutton Bay Park, Portage Bay Lodge, Maiden Bay Camp, and Camping Le P'tit Paradis all take reservations through their own websites or by phone. Seasonal sites at the private parks are common, so transient RV availability tightens quickly on summer long weekends. Booking six to eight weeks ahead is prudent for July and August; shoulder-season trips can often be arranged with only a few weeks' notice.
