Perry, Ontario camping overview
Perry is a rural township in Parry Sound District, sitting at the southernmost part of the Almaguin Highlands and bordering the District of Muskoka. It is centred on the villages of Emsdale and Novar, roughly 2.5 hours north of the Greater Toronto Area along Highway 11 and just north of Huntsville. The terrain is Canadian Shield country: exposed bedrock, mixed forest, and a dense network of lakes and rivers.
The area works well as an RV base because it combines a marquee Ontario Parks destination with several private campgrounds. Arrowhead Provincial Park, a short drive south near Huntsville, is the largest public option in the area. Nearby private parks include Almaguin Campgrounds, Silver Sands Tent and Trailer Park, Duins Pineridge Resort Members, and Sun Retreats Huntsville.
Most travellers arrive via Highway 11, which runs through the township. Perry itself is compact and quiet, so RV travellers typically use it as a launching point for hiking, paddling, and shoulder-season stays, with Huntsville a short drive south for groceries, fuel, and services.
Things to do near Perry
Arrowhead Provincial Park is the main draw. It has four sandy swimming beaches on Arrowhead Lake, canoe and kayak rentals at the Visitor Centre, and about 15 kilometres of hiking trails, including the popular route to Stubb's Falls. The East River campground area is the closest to the falls, with some sites within earshot of the water.
In winter, Arrowhead operates a 1.3-kilometre lit skating trail through the forest, plus groomed cross-country ski trails, snowshoeing, and tubing. Seven pull-through electric sites located between East River and Roe stay open year-round for winter RV camping, along with the 13 camp cabins in East River.
Beyond the provincial park, Perry Township maintains community parks in Emsdale and Novar, and Brooks Falls is a short local hike. Huntsville, a 15 to 20 minute drive south, adds a main street, restaurants, and services.

The core RV season runs from the Victoria Day weekend in late May through Canadian Thanksgiving in early October. July and August are peak: warm days, reliable swimming, and the busiest reservation windows. Weekends at Arrowhead and nearby private parks typically fill well in advance for these months.
Late May, June, and September are quieter alternatives with cooler nights. Blackflies and mosquitoes are heaviest from late May into late June, so long sleeves and screens are worth packing. Fall colour in the mixed hardwood forest around Perry generally peaks from late September into the second week of October and is a strong reason to book a shoulder-season trip.
Winter is a genuine season here rather than an off-season. Arrowhead's skating trail, ski loops, and the small block of year-round electric pull-through sites draw cold-weather RV travellers from December through March. Expect deep snow, plowed but narrow park roads, and short daylight hours.

We had such a wonderful experience with this RV! It was very new, super clean, and had everything we could possibly need for a comfortable camping trip. The owner was incredibly thoughtful and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. When they found out we were traveling with a child, they even prepared a s’mores kit for us. It was such a sweet and thoughtful surprise! The two camping chairs were also huge and extremely comfortable. You can really tell that the owner put a lot of thought into making the RV comfortable and convenient for guests. Honestly, this is one of the best RV experiences we’ve ever had, and the owner is by far one of the most thoughtful and caring hosts we’ve met. We would absolutely rent this RV again and highly recommend it!

How to book campgrounds near Perry
Arrowhead Provincial Park is reserved through the Ontario Parks reservation system at reservations.ontarioparks.ca or by phone at 1-888-ONT-PARK. The booking window opens at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time, five months before the arrival date. For a July 15 arrival, the site becomes bookable at 7:00 a.m. on February 15.
Summer weekends, especially those tied to Canada Day, the August Civic Holiday, and Labour Day, tend to fill within minutes of the window opening. Create the Ontario Parks account in advance, save payment details, and log in several minutes early. Availability notifications inside the system flag cancellations, which are most common about two weeks out and in the final 24 to 48 hours before arrival.
Private parks such as Almaguin Campgrounds, Silver Sands Tent and Trailer Park, Duins Pineridge Resort Members, and Sun Retreats Huntsville are booked directly with each operator and run on their own calendars.
What to expect on-site
Arrowhead has 382 campsites split across three campgrounds, Lumby, East River, and Roe, with a mix of electric and non-electric sites. Lumby offers both electric and non-electric sites and is closer to a tent-trailer style of camping, while East River and Roe are the electric, trailer-friendly campgrounds, with East River sites along Road 10 particularly good for larger rigs. Roe features large, well-drained sites under conifers.
Daily vehicle permits can be purchased up to five days in advance. Cell coverage is patchy in the park interior, so downloading maps before arrival is worthwhile.
Private parks in the area range from full-service resort-style properties to smaller trailer parks with basic hookups. Confirm rig length limits, sewer availability, and quiet-hours policies at time of booking, as amenities vary widely between operators.
