Camping near Port Dover, Ontario
Port Dover sits on the north shore of Lake Erie in Norfolk County, and it works well as a base for RV travellers exploring Ontario's south coast. The town has a working fishing harbour, a swimming beach, and quick highway access to a cluster of provincial parks and private RV resorts within a 30-minute drive.
The closest campgrounds fall into two groups. Ontario Parks operates Turkey Point Provincial Park on Long Point Bay, Selkirk Provincial Park about 15 minutes east of Port Dover, and Long Point Provincial Park, established in 1921 as the fourth-oldest provincial park in Ontario and set within a UNESCO-designated World Biosphere Reserve. Private options include Sun Retreats Turkey Point, a full-service RV and tent resort with electrical, water, and sewer hookups plus pull-through sites, along with Willow Lake Park.
Most trips built around Port Dover combine beach time, birdwatching, and short highway drives between parks. RV travellers should plan around the provincial park operating season, which runs roughly May through October, and book early for July and August weekends.
Things to do near Port Dover
Lake Erie beaches are the main draw. The sand at Turkey Point stretches more than two kilometres along Long Point Bay, and it is shallow and warm, a favourite of families who can wade out a long way on the sandy bottom. Long Point Provincial Park offers a longer, wilder beach and dune system on the Lake Erie sand spit, along with over 1.5 kilometres of sandy shoreline.
Birdwatching and hiking are strong shoulder-season activities. Wheeler's Walk Trail at Selkirk Provincial Park runs about 1.5 kilometres and includes a boardwalk across a marsh wetland. Long Point is one of the largest bird and waterfowl migration and staging areas in North America, and more than 300 species of songbirds and waterfowl pass through each spring and fall.
In Port Dover itself, families can walk the pier, visit the harbour museum, and eat perch at lakeside restaurants.

The camping season in this area is tightly defined. Turkey Point Provincial Park operates from early May through late October, and Long Point Provincial Park runs camping from early May into mid-November, with day use extending from early April into early January. Selkirk Provincial Park is open from mid-May to mid-October, with chilly nights and cold swimming in the shoulder season, while July and August are the warmest times. Sun Retreats Turkey Point typically opens in May and closes at the end of October.
Summer is peak season. Because Turkey Point is near a village popular with tourists and boaters, summer is by far the busiest time to book a site, especially all of July and the first two weeks of August. Victoria Day, Canada Day, the August long weekend, and Labour Day are often booked out months in advance.
Fall brings quieter campgrounds, migrating waterfowl, and colour along the Lake Erie shore. Winter camping is not offered at the provincial parks in this cluster, and most sites close by mid-November.

How to book campgrounds near Port Dover
The three provincial parks in this cluster all use the Ontario Parks reservation system. Reservations are highly recommended, especially for multi-night stays, and can be made up to five months ahead of the arrival date. Bookings can be completed online or by phone, and registrations open at 7 a.m. Eastern.
Bookings at Turkey Point, Long Point, and Selkirk open on a rolling five-month window, so a July long-weekend site becomes available in early February. During the busiest season, July 1 through the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend, some popular parks cap how long guests can stay on a single campground site.
Private resorts book through their own systems. Sun Retreats Turkey Point and Willow Lake Park take reservations directly through their operators. If dates at the provincial parks are full, cancellations do open up, but same-day walk-in availability is not guaranteed.
What to expect at campgrounds near Port Dover
Provincial park sites in this area are typically wooded or grassed, with a mix of serviced and unserviced options. Turkey Point offers three main campgrounds with a share of electrical sites, plus flush toilets, showers, laundry facilities, a playground, and beach access. There are no water hookups at individual sites, but tap water is available throughout the campground, and there is a dump station and water-fill area near the entrance to Walking Stick Woods.
Long Point has four campground areas across two sections, with almost half of sites offering electrical service and pull-through options in Firefly Campground. Selkirk offers grassed sites, a comfort station with showers and laundry in Area 2, and pull-through electrical sites in Areas 2 and 4.
Cell reception can be spotty inside the provincial parks. Ticks are present in grassy and wooded areas, so daily tick checks are recommended.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Port Dover, ON
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Port Dover, Ontario?
RV rental in Port Dover is affordable compared to big-city pricing in Toronto or Hamilton. On RVezy, travel trailers typically range from $100 to $200 CAD per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $325 per night, and larger Class A units from $275 to $450 per night. Save the most by booking midweek stays in May, June, or September when Lake Erie weather is pleasant but demand dips between peak weekends. For a cheap RV rental in Port Dover, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Booking early also helps you avoid Friday the 13th biker rally weekends, when local availability tightens and pricing rises.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Port+Dover%2C+OntarioWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Port Dover, Ontario?
A standard Ontario G-class driver's license, or its equivalent from your home province, state, or country, is all you need to rent an RV in Port Dover through RVezy. The motorhomes and travel trailers on the platform fall under standard passenger vehicle limits, so no special RV license, air brake endorsement, or commercial license is required. Approved drivers must generally be 25 or older, and ID verification is handled directly through RVezy when you book. If you are visiting from overseas for a Port Dover RV trip, pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country before you travel. Most first-time renters are surprised at how simple the licensing side really is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs protection or roadside assistance included with my RV rental in Port Dover?
Yes. Every RVezy booking in Port Dover includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out toward Lake Erie with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout based on the protection that suits your trip. Hosts do not select your coverage, you do, which keeps you in control of your trip costs and reassurance. If it is your first time renting an RV, choosing a higher protection tier is a small investment for a much more relaxed trip along the Erie shoreline.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Port Dover RV rental?
Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, so the rules are consistent across every listing. There is a money-back grace period right after booking that allows a full refund within the early window, and refund amounts beyond that depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. RVezy also has support paths for major disruptions such as a host cancellation, where guests can receive a refund or travel credit. Booking early helps you lock in the best Port Dover RV rentals for summer weekends, knowing you have a clear cancellation policy if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Port Dover?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rentals in Port Dover are easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you will see listings that welcome your dog. Port Dover is a great destination for dog owners: the Lynn Valley Trail offers a shaded multi-kilometre walk perfect for warm afternoons, and many waterfront patios along Walker Street welcome leashed pups. Nearby Turkey Point Provincial Park also has pet-friendly camping and trails about 25 minutes west, with designated dog beach areas. Message the host through RVezy before booking to confirm any pet fee and to ask which campgrounds they recommend, since local hosts often know the most dog-welcoming spots along the Erie shore.
ontarioparks.ca/park/turkeypointCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Port Dover?
Yes, RV delivery in Port Dover is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is ideal if you have never towed a trailer or driven a motorhome. Many local hosts will deliver directly to campgrounds such as Long Point Provincial Park, Turkey Point Provincial Park, or Selkirk Provincial Park, then level the rig, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. You just arrive with your bags and groceries. Delivery fees vary by host and distance, with some offering flat-rate delivery within Norfolk County. Filter by Delivery on RVezy and book a stationary rental for the easiest first-time experience.
ontarioparks.ca/park/longpointHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Port Dover?
Most Port Dover hosts include a daily kilometre allowance (commonly 100 to 200 km per day) with the option to add unlimited kilometres for a flat fee, and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage included. Port Dover sits in a sweet spot for road trips: Niagara Falls is about 110 km east (around 90 minutes), Toronto is about 150 km northeast (roughly two hours), Pinery Provincial Park on Lake Huron is about 230 km west, and Algonquin Park is about 400 km north for a longer adventure. Estimate your total kilometres before booking and message the host to bundle unlimited mileage if you are planning a longer Ontario loop, as it usually works out cheaper than paying overage fees.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Port+Dover%2C+OntarioWhere are the best campgrounds near Port Dover for an RV trip?
Port Dover is surrounded by excellent campgrounds, all within a short drive of the harbour. Long Point Provincial Park (about 35 km west) offers beachfront sites within a UNESCO biosphere reserve with electrical hookups. Turkey Point Provincial Park (about 25 km west) is family-friendly with sandy Lake Erie beaches and serviced sites. Selkirk Provincial Park (about 45 km east) has electrical sites and quiet wooded camping. For private options, Long Point Eco-Adventures and Norfolk Conservation Authority sites such as Waterford North also offer RV camping. Book Ontario Parks sites five months ahead through the Ontario Parks reservation system, especially for July and August weekends when prime sites can sell out within minutes of release.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/When is the best time to visit Port Dover in an RV?
The sweet spot for a Port Dover RV trip is late May through mid-September, when Lake Erie warms to comfortable swimming temperatures and daytime highs typically sit between 22°C and 28°C. July and August are peak beach season with the warmest water of any of the Great Lakes, while June and September offer fewer crowds, lower campground prices, and beautiful sunsets over the harbour. Fall foliage along the Lynn Valley Trail peaks in early to mid October, perfect for a cozy shoulder-season getaway. Most local campgrounds close from late October through April, so summer and early fall offer the widest selection of sites. Aim for a weekday in early June for the best balance of weather, price, and tranquility.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/I've never rented an RV before. Is Port Dover a good place to start?
Port Dover is one of the easiest places in Ontario for first-time RV renters. The roads in and out of town (Highway 6 and Highway 24) are flat and well-maintained, with none of the steep grades you might face in Northern Ontario or the Rockies. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering leveling, water hookups, propane, and waste systems, and you can message them anytime during your trip through RVezy if a question comes up. RVezy's 24/7 roadside support is also a phone call away. Start with a stationary booking at Turkey Point or Long Point, let the host deliver and set up, and ease into RV life without ever towing a thing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something breaks down during my Port Dover RV trip?
You are covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is just a phone call away whether you are parked at Long Point Provincial Park or driving Highway 6 toward Hamilton. Roadside service handles common issues such as flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing to the nearest qualified repair shop. For RV-specific systems like slide-outs, generators, and plumbing, your host is your first call, since they know their rig best and can usually walk you through a fix in minutes. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip to help coordinate solutions. Save both the roadside assistance number and your host's number in your phone before leaving the pickup location.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Port Dover RV rental across the US border?
Cross-border RV travel from Port Dover into the United States is possible, but only if your specific host allows it, since insurance coverage needs to be confirmed for travel outside Canada. The Peace Bridge at Fort Erie is about 110 km east, opening up access to Buffalo, the Finger Lakes, and beyond. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm US travel is approved, and bring your passport, vehicle registration, and a signed letter from the host authorizing cross-border use. A Port Dover to Niagara Falls USA loop is a popular long-weekend RV road trip from Port Dover that is easy to plan.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Port Dover RV trip?
Fuel is the largest variable cost on most RV trips in Port Dover, so it pays to plan ahead. Ontario gas prices generally run between $1.40 and $1.70 per litre, with stations in Simcoe (about 10 km north) often a few cents cheaper than Port Dover itself. Expect roughly 18 to 25 litres per 100 km for a Class C motorhome, 12 to 16 L/100 km for a campervan, and 15 to 20 L/100 km for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. For a four-day trip with 600 km of driving, budget around $180 to $280 in fuel for a typical Class C. Fill up in Simcoe or Jarvis before heading into Port Dover for the cheapest pump prices in Norfolk County.
ontario.ca/page/gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground near Port Dover?
For Ontario Parks like Long Point, Turkey Point, and Selkirk, reservations open exactly five months ahead through the Ontario Parks reservation system, and prime July and August weekends can sell out within minutes of the booking window opening. Private campgrounds and Norfolk Conservation Authority sites usually open bookings in January or February for the upcoming season. For Friday the 13th biker rally weekends, lock in your RV and your camping spot at least three to six months ahead, as Port Dover fills up with tens of thousands of visitors. Midweek stays at Turkey Point are often available even on short notice in June and September, perfect for a spontaneous Port Dover RV trip.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are driving conditions like around Port Dover?
Driving around Port Dover is refreshingly relaxed compared to big-city Ontario. Highways 6 and 24 are flat, two-lane country roads with light traffic outside of summer weekends, and the surrounding Norfolk County terrain is gentle farmland with virtually no steep grades, perfect for a motorhome rental in Port Dover. Watch for slow-moving farm equipment in spring and fall, deer at dawn and dusk on rural stretches, and significant motorcycle traffic on every Friday the 13th, when downtown streets close and traffic patterns are managed by Norfolk County OPP. Winter can bring lake-effect snow squalls off Lake Erie that reduce visibility quickly. Avoid driving an RV into downtown Port Dover during the rally, park outside town and walk or shuttle in instead.
511on.ca/What amenities do campgrounds near Port Dover offer?
Most campgrounds within 45 minutes of Port Dover offer solid amenities for a comfortable stay. Long Point and Turkey Point Provincial Parks have electrical hookups at many sites, comfort stations with hot showers, potable water taps, and on-site sanitary dump stations. Selkirk Provincial Park also offers electrical sites and laundry facilities. Private campgrounds in Norfolk County often add full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, and laundry. Public dump stations are available at the Ontario Parks sites and at select Norfolk County locations. Top up fresh water before leaving the campground since pull-off water taps are limited along the rural Lake Erie shore, and ask your host whether the RV has heated tanks if you are traveling in May or October.
ontarioparks.ca/campingWhat equipment and amenities come with an RV rental in Port Dover?
RV rentals in Port Dover are typically well-equipped. Most listings on RVezy include a full kitchen (fridge, stovetop, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for two to eight depending on the rig, climate control with both AC and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel days. Many also include outdoor awnings, BBQs, camp chairs, bedding, and basic kitchenware so you can arrive and start cooking right away. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often add TVs, generators, and solar setups for off-grid stays. Cellular coverage works well across most of Norfolk County. Check each listing's amenities list carefully and message the host about specific items such as a coffee maker, a campervan rental in Port Dover with just the essentials can save you money.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Port+Dover%2C+OntarioWhat add-ons and pickup options are available with Port Dover RV rentals?
Hosts in Port Dover offer a range of add-ons to customize your trip. Common extras include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generator use, bike racks, kayak or paddleboard rentals, outdoor furniture sets, and propane refills. Pricing varies by host, and exact fees are listed on each RV's page on RVezy. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Port Dover, Simcoe, or surrounding Norfolk County, with delivery available from many hosts for a per-kilometre fee. Mileage policies vary, with most rentals offering 100 to 200 km per day included and optional unlimited mileage upgrades. Bundle delivery, setup, and a linen package at booking and you will arrive at Long Point or Turkey Point to a fully prepped RV, skipping the learning curve on your first night.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Port+Dover%2C+OntarioHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is handled entirely through the RVezy platform, so you never need to hand cash to a host. When you book, you pay the rental total plus your chosen protection plan, with a portion charged at booking and the balance closer to your trip start date. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is released after a successful return, with the amount set by the host on each listing. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround with your host at both pickup and drop-off, photographing the exterior, interior, and odometer. Return the RV with a full propane tank and an empty waste tank to skip common end-of-trip fees and get your deposit released quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs Port Dover RV-friendly during the Friday the 13th motorcycle rally?
Yes, and the Friday the 13th rally is a memorable experience as tens of thousands of bikers gather in this Lake Erie town. The rally, known locally as PD13, has been running since 1981. During the event, the Port Dover Kinsmen Club typically opens RV camping at Kinsmen Park with shuttle service into the festival zone, and other local organizations offer additional camping. Downtown streets close to non-motorcycle traffic, so RVs must park at the edge of town. Hosts on RVezy often allow rally bookings, but mention the event when messaging since some hosts charge premium rates or have special return windows. Booking your RV three to six months ahead is the best way to secure a rig for any Friday the 13th in Port Dover.
