Campgrounds and RV parks near Ridgetown, ON

The main draw is Rondeau Provincial Park. The park offers 11 km of sandy beaches on Lake Erie plus hiking, biking, and rollerblading, and it is a world-renowned birdwatching destination. Trails wind through old-growth Carolinian forest, boardwalks cross wetlands, and a long bayside marsh trail is popular with cyclists and birders. Rondeau Bay itself provides a boat launch and calm water suited to fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. On the Lake St. Clair side, Mitchells Bay Marine Park Ltd is a jumping-off point for perch, walleye, and bass fishing. Blenheim is the closest town for additional dining, groceries, and fuel. Chatham offers rainy-day options, and Greenview Aviaries Park and Zoo near Morpeth is a family-friendly stop with a diverse collection of animals and picnic areas.

The camping season here is tied to Ontario Parks' operating calendar. Rondeau has one campground in the north end of the park that opens the first Friday in April and closes the last Sunday in October. Private grounds around Ridgetown typically follow a similar April-to-October window, with a few opening slightly earlier for self-contained rigs. Spring is peak birding. Rondeau is an important stopover for migratory birds and has been identified as a Canadian Important Bird Area, with its Carolinian woods providing nesting habitat for the prothonotary warbler and many other rare or endangered species. The springtime Festival of Flight draws birdwatchers from across Ontario and the United States. Summer brings warm Lake Erie swimming and the busiest weekends, when sites fill quickly at both the provincial park and nearby private grounds. Fall is quieter, with Carolinian hardwoods turning colour through October. Winter closes provincial camping and most private grounds, though day-use access remains open for cross-country skiing, birdwatching, and winter hiking, with services limited outside the main season.

Rondeau's campground is laid out for a mix of rig sizes. Sites are arranged on parallel roads named after trees and can accommodate equipment ranging from tents to large trailers, with some offering electrical hook-ups. Water taps, comfort stations with flush toilets and showers, and laundry facilities are close by, and pull-through sites are available for larger RVs. A dumping station serves the campground and can back up on busy checkout mornings. There are dog-free and radio-free zones for a quieter experience, and drinking water is available at stations throughout the park. A seasonal park store near the south end of the campground sells firewood, ice, and camping supplies. Cell reception is generally usable on major carriers, though coverage can be patchy under heavy tree cover. Private grounds nearby lean toward seasonal-site regulars, so expect a settled, community feel rather than a transient park atmosphere.
