Campgrounds near Saugeen 29
Saugeen 29 is the main reserve of the Saugeen First Nation, located on the east shore of Lake Huron at the south end of the Bruce Peninsula in Bruce County, Ontario. The reserve sits between the resort community of Sauble Beach and the town of Southampton, giving RV travellers quick access to long sand beaches, the Sauble River, and the wider Saugeen (Bruce) Peninsula.
Most RV camping in the area is found at private parks a short drive from the reserve. Dreamaker Family Campground and Disc Golf Course, Sun Retreats Arran Lake, Holiday Park Campgrounds, Carson's Camp, and Woodland Park all serve as practical bases for beach days and peninsula day trips. Serviced sites, family amenities, and lake-district access are the main draws.
Provincial parks fill in the rest of the map. Sauble Falls Provincial Park sits on the Sauble River just north of Sauble Beach, and MacGregor Point Provincial Park lies south near Port Elgin on Lake Huron. Both work well for trips that pair beach time with hiking, paddling, and wildlife viewing.
Things to do near Saugeen 29
The Lake Huron shoreline is the centrepiece. Sauble Beach offers a long stretch of shallow, sandy swimming water and a walkable main strip, while Southampton adds a quieter beach, a lighthouse, and a marina. Sunsets over the lake are a nightly draw.
Sauble Falls Provincial Park is a compact stop with a cascading waterfall, a children's playground, and spring and fall spawning runs for rainbow trout and chinook salmon that visitors can watch struggling upstream. The park is also the downstream terminus of the Rankin River canoe route, described by Ontario Parks as ideal for novice canoeists.
MacGregor Point Provincial Park adds coastline, coastal wetlands, and looped hiking trails, including the Tower Trail. Bruce Peninsula National Park and Tobermory sit within day-trip range to the north.

Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm lake temperatures, long daylight, and the busiest weekends around Canada Day and the August Civic Holiday. Sauble Beach fills up, and private campgrounds and provincial park sites near the reserve book out well in advance for these dates.
Shoulder seasons are quieter and increasingly popular. Late spring brings the Huron Fringe Birding Festival at MacGregor Point at the end of May and beginning of June, plus the spring rainbow trout run at Sauble Falls. Fall delivers cooler nights, colour along the peninsula, and the chinook salmon run visible over the ledges at Sauble Falls in mid-September. Ontario Parks lists Sauble Falls operating from late April to early November.
Winter is a slower season. Most private campgrounds close, but MacGregor Point stays open year-round with yurts and rustic cabins, plus a lit night-skating trail and cross-country ski options when conditions allow.

How to book a campsite
Private campgrounds near Saugeen 29, including Dreamaker Family Campground and Disc Golf Course, Sun Retreats Arran Lake, Holiday Park Campgrounds, Carson's Camp, and Woodland Park, take bookings directly through each operator's own website or phone line. Summer weekends and long weekends should be booked as early as possible.
Provincial park sites at Sauble Falls and MacGregor Point are reserved through the Ontario Parks reservation system, online or by calling 1-888-668-7275. Bookings open at 7:00 a.m. Eastern up to five months ahead of the arrival date, so popular July and August weekends should be targeted the moment the five-month window opens.
During the peak window from July 1 to the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend, some popular Ontario Parks cap stay lengths at seven or fourteen nights. Check the specific park's operating dates and any overlap rules before finalizing an itinerary.
What to expect
Expect a mix of beach-town energy and quieter provincial park camping. Private parks near Saugeen 29 typically offer serviced RV sites, showers, laundry, and family amenities. Provincial park campgrounds provide electrical and non-electric sites, flush toilets, showers, and potable water taps, but no water or sewer hookups at individual sites.
Lake Huron conditions can shift quickly. Winds pick up in the afternoon, and swimming is unsupervised at provincial park beaches. Weather at Sauble Beach ranges from warm summer days to cold, snowy winters, and precipitation can occur in any month.
Respect for local land matters. The reserve is home to the Saugeen First Nation, and recent court rulings, confirmed when the Supreme Court of Canada declined to hear a further appeal, returned roughly 2.2 kilometres of Sauble Beach shoreline to the First Nation. Follow posted rules on beaches and access roads.

For a typical four-day Sauble Beach loop covering 400 km in a Class C, budget around $200 to $260 CAD in fuel. Yes, winter RV adventures are possible here, though the experience is different. Most provincial parks close their full-service campgrounds mid-October, but MacGregor Point Provincial Park stays open year-round with limited electric sites perfect for ice-fishing on Lake Huron or snowshoeing the Old Shore Road Trail. A few RVezy hosts in the area list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and shore-power furnaces, filter listings and message the host to confirm winter use. Temperatures from December to February average roughly -8 to -2°C with regular lake-effect snow. Pro tip: book a four-season Class C and ask the host about winterization basics, then enjoy the Saugeen Valley snowmobile trails right from your campsite door.
