RV camping near Virgil, Ontario
Virgil is a small community within the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, sitting on the Niagara Peninsula between Lake Ontario and the Niagara River. It puts RV travellers within a short drive of the Falls, the wine route, and the historic Old Town, without staying in the busiest tourist corridor.
Most RV parks used as a base for Virgil trips are clustered along Lundy's Lane in Niagara Falls, roughly 20 to 25 minutes south. Niagara Falls ON KOA Holiday, Scotts Family RV Park and Campground, and Campark Resorts all sit in that corridor and cater to families with pools, playgrounds, and easy access to the Falls.
Across the border, options include Niagara Falls North / Lewiston KOA Journey and Four Mile Creek State Park, whose campsites sit near the shores of Lake Ontario just north of Niagara Falls, with marsh habitat at the mouth of Four Mile Creek that supports great blue herons and white-tailed deer. Crossing the Lewiston-Queenston or Rainbow Bridge adds passport and customs planning to the trip.
Things to do around Virgil
The Niagara Parkway runs along the river from Niagara-on-the-Lake past the Falls, with cycling paths, picnic areas, and viewpoints along the way. Old Town Niagara-on-the-Lake offers the Shaw Festival theatre, shops, and War of 1812 history at Fort George National Historic Site. Wineries line the surrounding farmland, and many welcome day visitors.
On the U.S. side, Four Mile Creek State Park has hiking trails, a playground, a nature trail, and interpretive programs led by state park staff. Families staying at Lundy's Lane campgrounds can reach the Falls, Clifton Hill, and the Niagara SkyWheel in minutes, and the WeGo shuttle stops right in front of Scotts Family RV Park and Campground for easy access to Niagara Falls attractions.

The core camping season on both sides of the border runs roughly May through October. Scotts Family RV Park and Campground operates from May 1 to October 31, and Four Mile Creek State Park's camping season runs mid-May through early October. Weekends and Canadian and U.S. holidays fill first, especially Victoria Day, Canada Day, U.S. Independence Day, and Labour Day.
Summer brings the warmest weather and the biggest crowds around the Falls. Late spring and September are quieter, with mild days and easier reservations, and wine harvest activity picks up through fall. Autumn colour along the Niagara Escarpment typically peaks in mid to late October.
Winter conditions on the Niagara Peninsula are cold, with lake-effect snow possible off Lake Ontario. Most private campgrounds close by early November, so cold-weather RV stays generally require driving well outside the region.

We had a great trip in Grundy using Pete’s StarCraft trailer! Pete was very helpful getting us all setup and the trailer worked perfect for us.
Derek J. - Aug 2026
Peter was easy to communicate with, very thorough in explaining to us who had never used a camper trailer before, how to use the the features and how to properly set up and maintain the trailer. He was flexible for pick up and drop off of the trailer which was greatly considerate for us since we had a slight change in our plans where we had to return early for work but gave us the time to return the trailer after our workday. I would 10/10 rent from him again!

We had a great experience with this rental! The owner was fantastic to deal with—very responsive, easy to communicate with, and made the entire process so simple. He dropped the trailer off, set everything up for us, and made sure we were all ready to enjoy our stay. The trailer was exactly as described and had everything we expected. It was comfortable, clean, and worked perfectly for our family. We really enjoyed the whole experience and had such a fun adventure together. We would definitely rent from him again and highly recommend this trailer to anyone looking for an easy and stress-free rental!

How to book campgrounds near Virgil
KOA properties, including Niagara Falls ON KOA Holiday and Niagara Falls North / Lewiston KOA Journey, take reservations directly through the KOA website or by phone. Scotts Family RV Park and Campground and Campark Resorts also book direct through their own sites, and Campark's inventory includes RV sites, cabins, and glamping units.
Four Mile Creek State Park uses the New York State Parks reservation system, which opens a nine-month booking window. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites, and reservations can be made online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center. For summer weekends, book several months out, and confirm big-rig length limits, hookup type, and pet policies before locking in a site.
What to expect on-site
Lundy's Lane parks are full-service and family-oriented. Scotts Family RV Park and Campground offers full-service trailer sites with water, sewer, and 15, 30, and 50 amp electric, 50-amp pull-through sites for large RVs, a heated pool with waterslide, laundry, showers, and a grocery store. Niagara Falls ON KOA Holiday has indoor and outdoor heated pools with the indoor pool and hot tub open all season, seasonal outdoor cinema, themed weekends, and an off-leash KampK9 dog park.
Four Mile Creek State Park is a more traditional state-park experience with dump stations, showers, laundry, and a camp store, but no in-site water or sewer hookups. Cell service can be spotty, and current proof of rabies vaccination is required at check-in for pets.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Virgil, ON
How much does an RV rental in Virgil typically cost?
Great news for wine-country travelers: an RV rental in Virgil is usually more affordable than a Niagara-on-the-Lake hotel during Shaw Festival season. Travel trailers generally start around $90 to $150 CAD per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $180 to $300 CAD, and luxury Class A coaches sit higher. You'll save the most by booking mid-week, traveling in May or late September outside peak wine-tour weekends, and choosing a trailer if your tow vehicle qualifies. Use the price filter and Instant Book on RVezy to lock in the best Niagara-on-the-Lake RV trip rates. Pro tip: book before icewine festival demand kicks in each January and you'll see noticeably better Virgil pricing.
niagaraonthelake.com/visiting-notlWhat licence do I need to rent an RV in Virgil, Ontario?
A regular Ontario Class G driver's licence is all you need to rent an RV in Virgil, with no special endorsement or commercial licence required for personal motorhomes and travel trailers at typical rental weights. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform when you book. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home country driver's licence plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto club (usually under $25) and you're ready to cruise the Niagara Parkway. Most first-time guests are surprised how simple the process is, which makes Virgil a relaxed launchpad for a wine-country RV adventure.
ontario.ca/page/driving-and-roadsIs insurance and roadside assistance included with my Virgil RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Virgil booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) with real peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), and it covers eligible physical damage to the RV during your trip. Whether you are parked at a winery near Four Mile Creek or pulled over near St. Davids, help is one phone call away. Tip for first-time renters: review the coverage tiers during booking and pick the one that best matches your comfort level for your Niagara-on-the-Lake RV trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Niagara plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (it is not host-defined), and the policy details are confirmed during checkout rather than on individual listings. Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel, and if a host ever cancels, guests are refunded or offered travel credits. Because Niagara region weather can shift quickly in shoulder seasons, it is smart to book your Virgil RV rental early and review the cancellation terms on the RVezy Help Center before confirming. Pro tip: lock in your dates as soon as Shaw Festival or icewine weekend plans firm up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Virgil?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Virgil options are easy to find on RVezy by toggling the Pet-Friendly filter before you search. Many local hosts welcome dogs, and the Niagara region is genuinely dog-loving: leashed pups are welcome on the Upper Canada Heritage Trail that passes right through Virgil, at Ryerson Park overlooking Lake Ontario, and on the wide shoulders of the Niagara River Recreation Trail. Several Niagara wineries even allow leashed dogs on their patios in summer. Pro tip: message the host through the listing to confirm any pet fee, then plan a stop at the off-leash area at Memorial Park in Niagara-on-the-Lake to let your dog stretch before the drive home.
niagaraonthelake.com/parks-trailsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental cottage?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options for an RV rental in Virgil, and it is ideal if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or trailer to your campground, winery stay, or driveway in Niagara-on-the-Lake, level it, hook up water and power, and give you a full walk-through before they leave. Delivery fees are typically flat-rate by distance, so a short hop to a nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake campground or Riverside Park in Chippawa is very reasonable. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery on RVezy, then message the host about delivery to your Niagara wine-tour basecamp so you can skip the QEW entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Virgil%2C%20OntarioHow does mileage work, and can I find an RV rental with unlimited mileage?
Most Virgil hosts include a generous daily kilometre allowance, and yes, you can find an RV rental with unlimited mileage on RVezy by filtering for unlimited kilometres. That is especially handy for a Niagara RV trip that spans the wine route, Niagara Falls (about 20 km), and Toronto (about 130 km via the QEW). Any per-kilometre overage rates are set by the host and shown clearly on the listing before you book. Pro tip: map your loop in advance (Virgil to Niagara Falls to Port Colborne is roughly a 150 km round trip) so you can pick a listing with the right mileage package and avoid surprises at drop-off.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Virgil%2C%20OntarioWhere are the best campgrounds near Virgil to park my RV?
You have several solid options for RV camping near Virgil within a short drive. Niagara-on-the-Lake Camping Resort offers full hookups and a pool just minutes from the wine route. Niagara Falls KOA Holiday on Lundy's Lane has big-rig pull-throughs, a pool, and easy access to the Falls. Riverside Park Campground in Chippawa puts you steps from the Niagara River, and Sherkston Shores on Lake Erie (about 50 km south) adds a sandy beach to the mix. Pro tip: book full-hookup sites by March for any July or August weekend, since wine-country demand and Shaw Festival crowds fill the best spots fast.
koa.com/campgrounds/niagara-falls/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Virgil?
Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for any Virgil RV trip, with daytime highs from 20 to 28 C and warm Lake Ontario breezes through wine country. June is lush and quiet, July and August are peak Shaw Festival and beach season, and September delivers the magic: warm days, cool nights, and the start of harvest at more than 30 Niagara-on-the-Lake wineries. October brings spectacular fall colour along the Niagara Parkway. Winter rentals are possible but most campgrounds close November to April. Pro tip: aim for the third week of September, when harvest tours, mild weather, and lower mid-week rates all line up beautifully.
climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_normals/index_e.htmlI have never driven an RV before, will I be okay starting from Virgil?
You're in a great spot for first-timers: Virgil sits on flat, quiet farm roads with low traffic, which makes it one of the easiest places in Ontario to get comfortable behind the wheel of a motorhome. Every RVezy host gives you a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough at pickup, covering the dash, propane, slide-outs, and dumping basics, and they're a phone call away during your trip. From Virgil you can practise on Niagara Stone Road before joining the QEW. Pro tip: choose a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first time renting an RV, since they drive much like a large van and park easily at Niagara wineries.
ontario.ca/page/driving-and-roadsWhat happens if something goes wrong on the road near Niagara?
You are covered around the clock: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with your renter protection plan, so a flat on the QEW, a dead battery at Niagara Falls, or a lockout at your campsite gets handled with one phone call. The roadside team can coordinate tow, tire change, lockout, fuel delivery, and jump-start services across the Niagara region. RVezy support is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Virgil, and snap a photo of your RV's plate and VIN so any service call goes faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trip routes from Virgil?
An RV road trip from Virgil opens up some of Ontario's most scenic driving. Cruise the Niagara Parkway south to Niagara Falls (20 km, 25 minutes), continue to Fort Erie and Lake Erie beaches (60 km), or head west along the QEW to Hamilton and the Bruce Peninsula (250 km, about 3 hours) for cliff-top camping on Georgian Bay. Prince Edward County wine country is around 350 km east via the 401. Cross-border travel into New York State is allowed with most hosts; just confirm in advance and bring your passport. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Pro tip: a 5-day Niagara to Tobermory loop is the classic Ontario RV bucket-list trip.
ontario.ca/page/ontario-511-traveller-informationWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Budgeting fuel for your Niagara-on-the-Lake RV trip is straightforward. Class B campervans typically get 9 to 11 L/100 km, Class C motorhomes around 18 to 22 L/100 km, and larger Class A coaches 25 to 30 L/100 km. Gas prices in the Niagara region usually sit a few cents below the Greater Toronto Area, and you'll find easy fill-ups at the stations along Niagara Stone Road in Virgil and East-West Line. Diesel is available at the Pioneer and Esso stations in Niagara-on-the-Lake and along the QEW. Pro tip: fill up in Virgil or St. Catharines rather than near Niagara Falls tourist zones, where pump prices can run 5 to 10 cents higher per litre.
ontario.ca/page/gasoline-pricesHow far in advance should I book a campground near Virgil?
For a smooth Niagara-on-the-Lake RV trip, book your campsite as early as you book the RV, especially for July, August, and Shaw Festival weekends. Ontario Parks reservations at Short Hills and Long Point open five months in advance through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service at reservations.ontarioparks.ca, and the best riverside sites disappear within minutes. Private parks like Shalamar Lake and Niagara Falls KOA take bookings up to a year out. For shoulder-season mid-week trips in May, June, or late September, two to three weeks ahead is usually fine. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly five months before your trip date to grab provincial park sites the moment they open.
reservations.ontarioparks.ca/What are driving conditions like around Virgil and the Niagara region?
Driving from Virgil is refreshingly easy: the surrounding wine-country roads are flat, well-paved, and lightly trafficked, with the QEW running just minutes away for quick access to Toronto, Hamilton, and the US border at the Peace Bridge. Watch for narrow shoulders on concession roads, low railway underpasses near Niagara Falls, and occasional lake-effect snow squalls from December to March. Summer construction is common on the QEW, so check Ontario 511 before you roll. Pro tip: avoid the Niagara Falls Rainbow Bridge corridor on Friday afternoons in summer; a back-route via Niagara Stone Road into Virgil keeps your RV out of the worst tourist traffic.
511on.ca/What hookups and amenities can I expect at Niagara-area campgrounds?
Campgrounds near Virgil are well-equipped for any size RV. Most private parks like Shalamar Lake, Niagara Falls KOA, and Sherkston Shores offer 30 and 50 amp electric, city water, sewer, free Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, and a camp store. Ontario Parks sites such as Short Hills are typically electric-only, so plan to fill fresh water at the gatehouse and use the dump station on the way out. Propane fills are available at U-Haul on Niagara Stone Road and several gas stations along Highway 55. Pro tip: dump and refill water in Virgil or Niagara-on-the-Lake before heading to Niagara Falls tourist parks, where waits at the dump station can stretch 30 minutes on summer Sundays.
ontarioparks.ca/campingWhat features and amenities come inside the RV rentals in Virgil?
RV rentals in Virgil on RVezy come fully equipped for a comfortable Niagara wine-country getaway. Expect queen or king beds, convertible dinettes, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and cookware, an enclosed bathroom with shower and toilet, furnace and air conditioning, and seat-belted seats for travel. Class A and Class C motorhomes usually include onboard generators, while campervan rentals often run on solar plus shore power. Wi-Fi varies by listing: some hosts include a mobile hotspot, while others rely on phone tethering, which works well on major Canadian networks across the Niagara peninsula. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list for outdoor chairs and a BBQ so you can enjoy long summer evenings under the Lake Ontario sunset.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Virgil%2C%20OntarioWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Virgil and nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake offer thoughtful add-ons to customize your trip: bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits, outdoor chairs and grills, bike racks for the Niagara River Recreation Trail, generators, and propane top-ups. Pickup typically happens at the host's home in Virgil, St. Davids, or Niagara-on-the-Lake with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough, and drop-off mirrors that location mid-morning. If you'd rather skip the drive, RV delivery to your campground is offered by many hosts for a flat fee based on distance. Pro tip: add a bike rack and ride the 53 km Greater Niagara Circle Route, which loops past Virgil's vineyards and along the Niagara River.
niagararegion.ca/living/recreation/cycling/default.aspxHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay on the RVezy platform with a credit card when you book, never in cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup (amounts vary by RV and host), and it is released after drop-off once the host confirms there is no damage, the tanks are emptied, and any kilometre allowance is honoured. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and again at drop-off. Pro tip: use a credit card with a high enough limit to comfortably hold the deposit alongside your nightly rate and fuel for your Niagara wine-country adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Virgil during winter for an icewine getaway?
Yes, winter RV rentals are available in Virgil for the Niagara Icewine Festival in January and the holiday season in December, when Niagara-on-the-Lake glows with lights along Queen Street. Look for listings marked as four-season with heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, and a propane furnace, since Niagara winters often drop below freezing with occasional lake-effect snow. Most campgrounds close from November through April, so plan to stay at a winter-friendly park or arrange a shore-power hookup at a host-approved private property. Pro tip: ask the host about a heated water hose and skirting kit, and you will be sipping Niagara icewine in cozy comfort while snow falls outside.
