The area trades on beaches, lighthouses and farm-country backroads. At Cedar Dunes, the park is popular for its beautiful beach that stretches for miles and its proximity to the West Point Lighthouse, and the park provides supervised swimming, children's activities, an accessible playground, a beach mat from the parking lot to the water, and a floating wheelchair. The West Point Lighthouse was built in 1875 and is recognizable for its black and white stripes; in 1963 the lighthouse switched to electric operation and became an inn and museum, with exhibits sharing the history of the community, lighthouse technology, and the maritime world. Jacques Cartier Provincial Park offers a Gulf-side beach and serves as a launch point for drives up to North Cape. 5 stars hosts! Kyle and Connie are fantastic RV hosts. The Rv is set up the same as you would get with a 5 star Airbnb. Everything you need for an adventure. It is in fantastic condition in and out. very safe and drives like a Cadillac. Small enough for easy travel and big enough for space watching a movie on a rainy night. Kyle took his time with explaining all the functions on the Rv. Everything is labeled and easy to use. The onboard generator is very convenient! Thanks for trusting us with your beautiful RV

How to book campgrounds near O'Leary

Provincial sites are booked through the PEI Provincial Parks reservation system. The online system opens on April 15 at 9:00 am, allowing reservations for provincial parks, with arrivals from early June through late September. Reservations are made in real-time; a credit card is required to complete the reservation and is charged in full before confirmation is issued. Cancellation rules are strict: a reservation may be cancelled 72 hours prior to the 2:00 p.m. check-in time on the arrival date, with the entire reservation fee minus the transaction fees refunded, and shorter notice forfeits the first night and fees. Demand at popular west-end sites is high, with many campers booking the entire season as soon as the system opens. Private campgrounds book directly: Green Park accepts reservations after April 1, with online reservations available, and Beach View Camping and K O K Campground take bookings through their own offices.

What to expect on the ground

Expect compact, family-oriented campgrounds rather than wilderness loops. Cedar Dunes features about 80 sites; 23 sites feature full hookups, an additional 46 sites offer hookups for electricity and water, and another 11 sites are available without hookups. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, and a laundromat, dump station, restrooms, showers, and WiFi are available. Jacques Cartier offers unserviced, two-way and three-way sites along with camp cabins, plus restrooms, showers and a dump station. At Green Park, the private operator runs river front tenting and cabin sites, 80 tenting sites, 22 three-way sites, 20 two-way sites and 12 riverfront cabins and a river beach. Pets are permitted on leash at the provincial parks. Cell coverage is generally workable but uneven near the dunes, so travelling with a stocked freshwater tank and downloaded maps is sensible.
