Campgrounds and RV parks near Melocheville, QC

The Beauharnois generating station offers free guided tours of one of the largest hydroelectric facilities in the world, with reservations required at least 24 hours in advance and photo ID required for adults. Next door, Pointe-du-Buisson, Musée québécois d'archéologie, sits on 21 hectares of forest along the Saint Lawrence River and presents a site documenting roughly 5,000 years of human history through exhibits, trails, and a simulated archaeological dig zone. The Beauharnois-Salaberry Regional Park follows the banks of the Beauharnois Canal and is built around a linear cycling and walking path popular with families. Kayaks and paddleboards can be rented on-site at Village Des Écluses. Downtown Montreal and its major attractions are within easy day-trip range.

Most private campgrounds in the Melocheville area follow a Quebec-standard season that runs from roughly May 1 to October 31, with Village Des Écluses and Montreal West KOA both opening for the warm-weather months and closing once overnight temperatures drop. Pools and waterfront activities typically run from the Victoria Day long weekend through Labour Day. Spring is unstable: snow can linger into March, and frost remains common into late April, with the average last spring frost around April 29. May warms quickly and brings frequent thunderstorms by late spring. June through August is peak season. Summer days are warm and often humid, with afternoon thunderstorms possible. The first fall frost typically returns around October 11, and foliage along the canal and Saint Lawrence is at its best from late September into mid-October. November through April is effectively off-season for RV camping: serviced sites close, snow normally covers the ground from late November to mid-March, and many attractions reduce hours or shut entirely.

Expect a mix of canal, river, and farmland scenery rather than wilderness. Sites tend to be open and grassy with mature trees, and waterfront views are common given the proximity to Lake Saint-Louis, the Soulanges Canal, and the Beauharnois Canal. Campgrounds in the area generally offer 15-, 30-, and 50-amp service, dump stations, showers, laundry, pools, and playgrounds, and most are family-oriented. French is the working language at smaller independent campgrounds, though staff at Montreal West KOA and the larger operators typically speak English as well. Highway noise can be a factor at Montreal West KOA given its location near Highway 20, and a few sites along the canal corridor are close to active rail lines. Cycling infrastructure is excellent, with the regional park path running directly past several campgrounds.
