Campgrounds and RV parks near Argo, AL

Water recreation dominates the area. Logan Martin Lake and Neely Henry Lake sit on the Coosa River and support boating, bass fishing, and swimming through the warm months, and Greensport RV Park & Campground and Unhitched Logan-Martin Lake RV Park both provide direct water access for guests with boats. Inland, Horse Pens 40 is nationally known for sandstone bouldering and hosts bluegrass festivals through the year, with marked hiking loops around the mountaintop boulder field. Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve and Red Mountain Park sit closer to Birmingham for family hikes, and the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum is a common rainy-day stop. Downtown Birmingham, roughly twenty miles southwest, adds the Civil Rights District, the McWane Science Center, and the Birmingham Zoo for day trips off the campground.

Central Alabama has a long RV season. Spring, from March through May, brings warm days, blooming dogwoods, and one of the region's wettest and most thunderstorm-prone stretches. Severe weather season peaks in April, so travelers should plan around watches and warnings from NWS Birmingham and choose parks with sturdy hookups and clear evacuation routes. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs regularly in the upper 80s and low 90s. Lake campgrounds like Greensport RV Park & Campground and Unhitched Logan-Martin Lake RV Park book up fastest on weekends and around the July 4 and Labor Day holidays. Horse Pens 40 hosts a major bluegrass festival around the Fourth of July, and additional events cluster in the cooler shoulder seasons when climbing conditions improve. Fall is the most comfortable window: cooler nights, lower humidity, and drier weather from mid-September into November. Winter stays mild by northern standards but can bring hard freezes and occasional ice, and some seasonal amenities close or run reduced hours.

Expect a mix of established RV parks with full hookups and smaller, more rustic properties. Sites at Carson Village Moblie Home and RV Park and Safe Harbor RV Park tend to be level with water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric, and cell coverage across the Argo area is generally strong on major carriers. Lakeside parks along Logan Martin and Neely Henry offer boat ramps, docks, and shaded pads, but interior roads can be narrow and some pull-throughs are shorter than modern Class A rigs need. Horse Pens 40 is a mountaintop property with gravel roads, primitive and electric sites, a bathhouse with showers, and festival crowds during events. Summer brings mosquitoes and biting flies near the water, so bring repellent, and pack for sudden thunderstorms even on clear-forecast days.
