Campgrounds and RV parks near Childersburg, AL

Childersburg sits in Talladega County along the Coosa River in central Alabama, roughly an hour southeast of Birmingham. The area gives RV travelers access to two major Coosa River reservoirs, Lay Lake just downstream and Logan Martin Lake to the north, plus the southern foothills of the Appalachians, so the campground mix leans heavily toward lakefront RV parks and one historic city park. Kymulga Grist Mill and Park is the closest option, a small wooded park on Talladega Creek with a handful of partial-hookup sites near a Civil War era covered bridge and working grist mill. Logan Landing RV Resort and Cabins sits on Lake Logan Martin in nearby Alpine and operates as a private gated resort with full hookups. Safe Harbor RV Park, on Logan Martin Lake off I-20 in Riverside, is a full-hookup park with pull-throughs popular as a Talladega Superspeedway base. Angler's Pointe adds another waterfront option in the same corridor. Roughly an hour northwest, Oak Mountain State Park near Pelham is Alabama's largest state park and offers the area's most developed public campground.

Public and private campgrounds in the area use different systems. Oak Mountain State Park books through the Alabama State Parks site at reserve.alapark.com. Advanced reservations may be made up to one year in advance. Alabama residents can make online reservations 13 months in advance, a month before out-of-state residents, giving Alabama residents greater flexibility in pricing, location and date options. Private parks book directly. Logan Landing RV Resort and Cabins takes reservations through its website or by phone and is a private, gated property limited to registered guests. Safe Harbor RV Park books by phone and mixes long-term sites with pull-throughs for overnighters. Kymulga Grist Mill and Park is run locally and reserved by calling the mill office; sites are limited, so calling ahead is recommended, especially on weekends with festivals or events on the grounds.
