Camping near Dadeville, Alabama
Dadeville sits just east of Lake Martin in Tallapoosa County, central Alabama. Lake Martin is a large Tallapoosa River reservoir with hundreds of miles of wooded shoreline, and it anchors nearly every camping option in the area. Most RV travelers base out of Wind Creek State Park, a 1,445-acre park on Lake Martin located off Alabama Highway 128 south of Alexander City, roughly a 20-minute drive from downtown Dadeville.
Wind Creek State Park is the region's dominant campground. It holds 586 campsites, all with water and electrical hookups, including 157 waterfront sites and 268 sites with sewer hookups. Smaller private options in and around town, including University Station RV Resort, Eagle Landing RV Park, Eagle's Landing RV Park, and Real Nice & Easy RV Park, serve travelers looking for quieter or full-hookup alternatives.
The area draws a mix of anglers, boaters, and families making short trips from Birmingham, Montgomery, Atlanta, and Auburn. Proximity to Auburn University, roughly 30 miles south, can affect campground availability during football weekends and university events.
Things to do around Dadeville
Lake Martin drives most itineraries. Multiple boat launches serve campers, and the Wind Creek marina rents pontoon boats and motorized jon boats. Fishing is a year-round draw: crappie, bluegill, and striped bass are among the species in the lake, and several fishing tournaments are held at the park each year.
On land, Wind Creek State Park features hiking trails, an archery range, mini-golf, playgrounds, and a zip line. The park is a stop on Alabama's Piedmont Plateau Birding Trail, and bald eagles and ospreys can be seen throughout the year.
For a half-day off the lake, Horseshoe Bend National Military Park is about 12 miles north of Dadeville. The park offers free admission, a small museum, and a driving tour road with marked stops covering the 1814 battle.

The Dadeville area has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid, and winters are mild to cool, with very little snowfall and rainfall spread throughout the year. Peak camping runs from spring through early fall, with summer weekends and holidays booking heaviest.
Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons for RV travel: daytime highs sit in the 70s Fahrenheit, humidity is lower, and bugs are less aggressive. Summer brings the biggest crowds because warm water temperatures on Lake Martin support swimming and tubing, but afternoons are hot and thunderstorms are common. Fall is popular for foliage, with wooded shorelines showing color from late October into mid-November.
Winter is the quietest stretch. Wind Creek stays open year-round, and Alabama State Parks extend maximum stays for cool-season campers at select parks, allowing up to 31 nights from November through March rather than the standard 14. Expect cool nights, occasional freezes, and rain-heavy weeks in late winter.

Jeff was really easy to work with. As a first time renter on this app he walked me through all the steps and accessories needed to house my family that traveled from Utah.

How to book a site
Wind Creek State Park uses the Alabama State Parks online reservation system at alapark.com, or a direct call to the park office. Out-of-state visitors may book up to 12 months in advance, and Alabama residents may book up to 13 months in advance through the state's resident advance reservation window, verified by zip code. The standard maximum stay is 14 nights.
Premium waterfront sites at Wind Creek can require longer minimum stays during peak periods, so confirm site type and cancellation terms before booking. Reservation fees are typically non-refundable.
Private parks in and around Dadeville, including University Station RV Resort, Eagle Landing RV Park, Eagle's Landing RV Park, and Real Nice & Easy RV Park, book directly through their own websites or by phone. Reserve summer weekends and Auburn football weekends several weeks out.
What to expect on arrival
At Wind Creek State Park, campground check-in is 2 PM. Sites vary widely, from tent-only to supersite waterfront locations with full hookups. The park's 39 renovated premium sites have 16-foot-wide, 60-foot-long concrete pads with water, sewer, 50/30/20-amp electrical service, waterfront access, and TV service.
Expect the campground to feel full and social in warm months. Sites can sit close together but many areas offer substantial shade. Bathhouses, two laundry facilities, a marina store, playgrounds, and boat launches are on site. Cell coverage is generally usable but varies by loop.
Pets are welcome with limits. Alabama state park campgrounds allow dogs, and pet owners must clean up after their animals. Confirm current pet limits with the park before arrival.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Dadeville, AL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dadeville, AL?
RV rental in Dadeville is affordable compared to coastal Alabama destinations. Travel trailers near Lake Martin typically range from about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $295, and Class A motorhomes trend higher. You can save by booking midweek or during the shoulder months of March, April, and October when Lake Martin weather is pleasant but demand drops. For a cheap RV rental in Dadeville, filter for travel trailers and look for hosts who include extras like generator hours or camping gear. Pro tip: book at least 6 weeks ahead of July 4th weekend, when Lake Martin demand and prices peak.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dadeville%2C%20AlabamaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Dadeville, Alabama?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Dadeville. Alabama does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special RV endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers booked through RVezy. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens inside the platform during booking, so there's no extra DMV trip. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP). Verification is typically quick, often the same day you book, so you can plan your Lake Martin trip with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental in Dadeville covered by a protection package?
Yes, every RV rental in Dadeville booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head to Lake Martin with peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout (it's not set by the host). While this isn't standard auto insurance, it provides real financial protection whether you're driving Highway 280 or backing into a site at Wind Creek State Park. Pro tip: first-time renters often choose a higher coverage tier for a lower deductible and added confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Dadeville RV trip?
You can book your Lake Martin RV getaway with confidence because RVezy sets the cancellation policy, not individual hosts. The policy considers how far out you are from your trip start date, so refund eligibility depends on when you cancel relative to pickup. Because RVezy manages the policy directly, you don't need to negotiate with the host or hunt through listing fine print. If a host cancels on you, RVezy helps with a refund or rebooking credit. Pro tip: book as soon as you find the right RV. Locking in your dates early protects availability and still leaves flexibility under the cancellation policy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Dadeville RV trip?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental options in Dadeville are plentiful, and Lake Martin is a wonderful place to bring a dog. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to narrow your search to hosts who welcome dogs (message the host first about cats or other pets). Wind Creek State Park allows leashed pets in the campground and on much of the shoreline, making it easy to enjoy the lake together. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a long lead. Summer pavement around Kowaliga and Russell Lands gets hot, and a midday swim keeps your dog comfortable at camp.
alapark.com/parks/wind-creek-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Dadeville?
Yes, RV delivery in Dadeville is one of the most popular ways to start a Lake Martin trip, especially for first-time renters. Many Dadeville-area hosts will drive the RV to Wind Creek State Park, a private lakefront lot, or a driveway in the Real Island or Kowaliga area, set up the slides and hookups, level it, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means you skip towing, backing in, and the steepest part of the learning curve. Use the Delivery filter when you search, then message the host to confirm your campsite or address. Pro tip: ask about end-of-trip pickup too. Many hosts offer round-trip delivery for one flat fee.
alapark.com/parks/wind-creek-state-parkHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive from Dadeville?
Mileage policies are set by each host, and many Dadeville listings include a generous daily allowance, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer road trips. From Dadeville, you're well-positioned: Auburn is about 35 miles, Montgomery about 75 miles, Birmingham about 110 miles, Atlanta about 110 miles, and the Gulf Shores beaches are roughly 270 miles south. If you're planning an Alabama RV road trip to the Gulf or up to Cheaha State Park (Alabama's highest point, about 80 miles north), check the listing's included miles and per-mile overage rate before booking. Pro tip: ask the host about a flat-rate mileage add-on for longer trips. It's often cheaper than per-mile charges.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dadeville%2C%20AlabamaWhere are the best campgrounds near Dadeville, AL?
You have great options for RV camping near Dadeville. The standout is Wind Creek State Park on Lake Martin, one of the largest state-operated campgrounds in the country, with hundreds of sites, full hookups, a beach, and a marina. Nearby, the Russell Lands area on Lake Martin offers private RV-friendly spots and access to Smith Mountain Fire Tower. Horseshoe Bend National Military Park has day-use areas for exploring, and Lakeside Landing RV Park in Jacksons Gap offers waterfront sites with full hookups. Pro tip: Wind Creek books out fast for summer weekends, so reserve as soon as your dates are confirmed, often months in advance for holidays.
alapark.com/parks/wind-creek-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Dadeville?
The sweet spot for a Dadeville RV trip is mid-March through May and mid-September through mid-November, when daytime highs typically sit in the comfortable 65 to 82 degree range and humidity is milder. Summers (June to August) are hot and humid, with highs near 90 degrees and a heat index that can exceed 100, ideal for swimming and tubing on Lake Martin but tough for cooking outside. Winters are mild, with January highs around 53 degrees, so off-season RV camping is doable if your rental has good heating. Pro tip: target late April for blooming dogwoods and warm-but-not-hot lake days, a local favorite time of year.
weather.gov/bmx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Dadeville?
You'll be fine, and Dadeville is one of the easier places in Alabama to learn. Your host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, slides, and water and waste systems, and you can text or call them anytime during the trip. The roads around Lake Martin (Highway 49, Highway 280, and County Road 34) are wide, mostly gently rolling, and far less stressful than navigating Birmingham or Atlanta. First time renting an RV? Choose a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer for easier handling. Pro tip: ask the host to ride along for a short test drive on Highway 49 before you leave. Those first 10 minutes build all the confidence you need.
dot.state.al.us/What happens if I have a breakdown or issue during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Dadeville includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing when needed. If a system inside the RV acts up (water pump, AC, fridge), your host is your first call, and most issues get sorted with a quick phone walkthrough. For anything bigger, RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Cell coverage around Dadeville and Lake Martin is reliable on most major carriers. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's exterior and key gauges at pickup. It speeds up any service call and protects you if there's a question later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trips from Dadeville?
An RV road trip from Dadeville opens up the Southeast. Head about 80 miles north to Cheaha State Park for mountain views and hiking, or about 110 miles east to Atlanta for the aquarium and food scene. For beaches, Gulf Shores is roughly 270 miles south, an easy overnight with a stop in Montgomery. History travelers can visit Tuskegee (about 45 miles south) and Selma (about 100 miles southwest) for civil rights landmarks. Cross-border note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there, and Canada trips require host approval. Pro tip: a Dadeville to Gulf Shores loop with a stop at Conecuh National Forest makes a great 4 to 5 day itinerary.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas costs should I budget for?
Budgeting fuel for your Dadeville RV trip is straightforward. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically gets 9 to 13 MPG. Alabama gas prices are consistently among the lowest in the country, often well below the national average. Convenient fill-up spots include stations along Highway 280 in Dadeville and larger truck-friendly stations in Alexander City. Pro tip: top off in Alexander City before heading to Wind Creek State Park. Prices nearer the lake trend higher, and stations are sparse on the back roads around Lake Martin.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground around Lake Martin?
For Wind Creek State Park, book as early as Alabama State Parks' reservation window opens, especially for Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends. Spring and fall weekends typically fill 2 to 3 months out, while midweek stays can often be reserved 2 to 3 weeks ahead. Private parks like Lakeside Landing and the smaller Lake Martin marinas usually have more flexibility but still book up fast in summer. Pro tip: if Wind Creek is full, check for cancellations 7 to 14 days before your trip. Last-minute openings are common as plans shift around Lake Martin.
alapark.com/parks/wind-creek-state-parkWhat are local driving conditions like around Dadeville?
Driving in and around Dadeville is relaxed. Highway 280 is the main four-lane corridor connecting to Auburn and Birmingham and handles RVs of any size comfortably. Highway 49 and the smaller county roads around Lake Martin are two-lane, gently rolling, and lightly trafficked outside summer weekends. Watch for sudden afternoon thunderstorms June through August (they pop up fast and pass quickly), and keep an eye out for deer at dawn and dusk in wooded stretches near Horseshoe Bend. Downtown Dadeville has a tight historic square, so with the largest Class A rigs, park on the outskirts and walk in. Pro tip: avoid Highway 280 eastbound on Sunday afternoons in summer, when lake traffic heading back to Auburn and Atlanta backs up.
dot.state.al.us/What hookups and amenities will I find at Dadeville-area campgrounds?
You'll find solid infrastructure at the best campgrounds near Dadeville. Wind Creek State Park offers full hookups (water, 30/50 amp electric, sewer) at most sites, plus a dump station, fresh water fill points, hot showers, a camp store, and a marina. Lakeside Landing has waterfront full-hookup sites, and many private marinas around Lake Martin offer at least water and electric. Cell signal is generally strong throughout the lake area on most major carriers. Pro tip: even with full hookups, top off your fresh tank at the campground fill station before settling in. Pressure can vary site to site, and a full tank means you're ready to head to a quiet cove on a whim.
alapark.com/parks/wind-creek-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Dadeville?
Most motorhome and travel trailer listings in Dadeville come fully equipped for a comfortable Lake Martin stay. Expect a queen or king bed, bunk options in family rigs, a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, awning, outdoor speakers, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies: some hosts include a mobile hotspot, others rely on phone tethering, which works well around Dadeville. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm specifics like cookware, linens, an outdoor grill, or paddleboards. Many Lake Martin hosts include water toys that elevate the trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dadeville%2C%20AlabamaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Dadeville hosts offer a wide range of useful add-ons. Common options include linen and towel packages (typically $30 to $75), kitchen kits, generator hours, propane refills, bike racks, outdoor grills, and even kayak or paddleboard rentals for Lake Martin's coves. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in Dadeville, Alexander City, or Eclectic, and many hosts will deliver to Wind Creek State Park or a private lakefront lot for a flat fee. Confirm mileage policy, included generator hours, and the pickup window in your booking message. Pro tip: if you're flying into Montgomery Regional Airport (about 75 miles away), bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit so you can land, ride to the lake, and be relaxing by sunset.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dadeville%2C%20AlabamaHow does the security deposit and payment work?
Payment for your Dadeville RV rental is handled entirely through RVezy, so you never pay the host directly. You'll pay your booking total (rental, protection plan, fees, and any add-ons) by credit card during checkout. A separate refundable security deposit is held on your card a few days before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in the same condition it left. Deposit amounts vary by RV and are clearly shown before you book. Pro tip: do a quick video walkaround with the host at both pickup and drop-off. It documents condition, speeds up your deposit release, and keeps everything smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs a campervan rental in Dadeville a good fit for a Lake Martin trip?
A campervan rental in Dadeville is a great pick if you're traveling as a couple or small family and want flexibility around Lake Martin's long, winding shoreline. Class B campervans are nimble enough for the narrow roads near Kowaliga and Real Island, fit in standard parking spots when you grab lunch at SpringHouse or Catherine's Market, and still include a bed, kitchenette, and bathroom. They're also among the most fuel-efficient options on the platform, often hitting 16 to 20 MPG. Pro tip: pairing a campervan with a rented pontoon from Russell Lands is the ultimate flexible Lake Martin combo, drive anywhere by day, sleep lakeside by night, and never miss a sunset over Chimney Rock.
