Campgrounds and RV parks near Emerald Mountain, AL

Emerald Mountain sits just northeast of Montgomery in Elmore County, Alabama, close to where the Tallapoosa and Coosa rivers join to form the Alabama River. The community is a residential area rather than a park, so RV travelers base themselves at nearby Montgomery-area campgrounds and use them as a hub for exploring central Alabama, the state capital, and the surrounding river country. Most RV options within a short drive fall into two categories: full-hookup commercial parks close to Interstate 65 and Interstate 85, and riverside campgrounds along the Coosa and Alabama rivers. Montgomery KOA, Capital City RV Park, Montgomery Marina RV Resort, and Unhitched Montgomery RV Park serve travelers who want easy interstate access and standard hookups, while Camp Sherrye on the Coosa is oriented toward water-based recreation. Montgomery experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters, with rainfall spread fairly evenly throughout the year and heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms during the warmer months. That pattern shapes when sites fill and how trips are planned.

Private parks in the Montgomery area, including Montgomery KOA, Capital City RV Park, Montgomery Marina RV Resort, and Unhitched Montgomery RV Park, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Camp Sherrye on the Coosa also books directly. Booking two to four weeks ahead is generally enough outside peak weekends, but riverside sites and pull-throughs go earlier. For federal and state options in the broader region, reservations run through Recreation.gov and the Alabama State Parks portal at alapark.com. Alabama zip code holders can make reservations 13 months in advance, and users from out-of-state zip codes can make reservations 12 months in advance. Gunter Hill, a Corps of Engineers campground about ten miles west of downtown Montgomery, is open year-round with reservations available through Recreation.gov, and all 142 sites have electric hookups while sites 1-75 add sewer for full hookups. Holiday weekends and events at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival tighten availability quickly. Book earlier for those windows.
