Families typically choose the lake and river parks for pools and playgrounds, while climbers and tent campers head up to Horse Pens 40.

Nearly all campgrounds in this area are privately owned and book directly. The Cove Lakeside RV Resort and Campground, Greensport RV Park and Campground, and River Rocks Landing all take reservations through their own websites or by phone. Third-party directories such as Good Sam and RV Life also list some of these parks. Horse Pens 40 operates differently. The park is transitioning to pre-paid reservation camping, and staff ask campers to call ahead and register as early as possible before arrival. Day-use visitors pay at the on-site country store on arrival. Weekends during spring and fall festivals, bluegrass events at Horse Pens 40, and holiday weekends fill fast. Book several weeks out for peak dates, and confirm rig-length limits when reserving, since some sites in the older parks are tight.
