Only electric trolling motors are allowed, which keeps the lake quiet for paddling and swimming. Spring and fall are the strongest RV seasons in central Alabama. March through May brings mild temperatures, dogwood and azalea bloom, and steady rainfall that can produce severe thunderstorms. October and November deliver cooler nights, lower humidity, and reliable weekend demand at state parks and private RV parks alike. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. Sites with shade and full hookups fill first because air conditioning runs most of the day. Independence Day and Labor Day weekends book out well in advance at parks near Clanton and Jemison. Winter camping is workable. Central Alabama sees mild days with occasional freezes, and most private RV parks stay open year round. Brierfield Ironworks keeps its grounds, parking lots, restrooms, and hiking trails open every day from sunrise to sunset, though campground activities and event bookings can restrict access on certain dates. Paul M Grist offers seasonal discounts on weeknights from November through February, so confirm hookup availability before booking.

Expect a mix of shaded, wooded sites at the state parks and more open, pull-through layouts at the interstate RV parks. Brierfield accommodates rigs up to 70 feet with water, electric, and sewer hookups, plus a dump station, camp store, bathhouses, an inground swimming pool, and a creek running through the property. Primitive sites with fire rings and picnic tables sit alongside the hookup loops. Paul M Grist has 11 modern RV sites with water, sewer, and 30 and 50 amp service, plus primitive sites and an ADA-accessible bathhouse. Roads in are rural and can be narrow, so larger rigs should check turn radii and low branches. Cell coverage varies by carrier once off the I-65 corridor. Bring insect repellent from late spring through early fall. Clanton, Jemison, and Selma all have full-size grocery stores, propane, and RV supplies within a short drive.
