Water activity centers on Logan Martin Lake. The reservoir is nicknamed Lake of a Thousand Coves and runs 48.5 miles between Logan Martin Dam on the south and Neely Henry Dam on the north, with only about three feet of average water level variance that suits boating, tubing, and bass fishing. Most lake-based campgrounds, including Logan Landing RV Resort and Cabins, provide boat ramps and dock access. On land, Talladega Superspeedway is a short drive from the Alpine lakefront, and the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum near Birmingham houses a large collection of motorcycles and race cars. DeSoto Caverns Park sits just a few miles from Kymulga Grist Mill and Park and works well as a rainy-day option for families. Kymulga Grist Mill and Park adds short hiking trails, picnicking, bank fishing, and bird watching, along with tours of the historic mill and covered bridge.

Central Alabama has a humid subtropical climate. Summers around Mignon are long, hot, and muggy, with highs commonly in the upper 80s to low 90s and heat indexes often well above 100. Lake campgrounds fill quickly on summer weekends and holidays, so booking several weeks out is prudent. Afternoon thunderstorms are frequent from June through August. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. March through May brings warming days, wildflowers, and the year's wettest stretch, with March averaging close to six inches of rain. September through November cools into the 70s with lower rainfall, and October is typically the driest month. Winters are short and mild but wet, with daytime highs generally in the low 50s and overnight lows near freezing. Snow is rare. Many private RV parks on Logan Martin Lake stay open year-round, though amenities like pools and camp stores may run reduced hours outside peak season. Alabama Power begins lowering the lake in September, with gradual drawdown continuing through the fall, so shoreline access can shift late in the season.

Most lake-area campgrounds near Mignon offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, gravel or concrete pads, and community amenities like boat ramps, fishing docks, and camp stores. Logan Landing RV Resort and Cabins is a lakefront property with a pool, clubhouse, beach area, and on-site management. Kymulga Grist Mill and Park is smaller and more rustic. The campground has 12 RV sites accommodating rigs up to 32 feet, 30/40 amp service, water and electric hookups, showers and bathrooms, a dump station, and fishing in the river. Cell coverage in the wooded sites can be inconsistent. Bring insect repellent from late spring through early fall, watch for poison ivy on wooded trails, and plan for shaded but humid sites. Most parks are pet-friendly on leash.
