Campgrounds near Mountain Brook
Mountain Brook sits in the wooded hills just southeast of downtown Birmingham, and RV travelers use it as a quiet base for exploring central Alabama. The city itself is residential, so most camping options lie a short drive south along the I-65 and US-280 corridors toward Pelham and Hoover.
Oak Mountain State Park, the largest state park in Alabama, anchors the area's public camping just outside Birmingham. Private options nearby include Hoover RV Park, Birmingham South RV Park, and Carson Village Moblie Home and RV Park, which give travelers full-hookup pads within easy reach of city amenities.
The mix works well for families. Oak Mountain offers trails, a lake, and wildlife programming inside the park gates, while the private parks provide predictable utilities, level sites, and quick access to grocery stores, laundromats, and repair services in the Birmingham metro.
Things to do near Mountain Brook
Oak Mountain State Park is the main outdoor draw. Visitors can hike to Peavine Falls, ride the extensive mountain-bike trail system, swim at the beach, or rent a kayak on the lake. The park also houses the Alabama Wildlife Center, a rehabilitation facility for native birds, and a demonstration farm that families can walk through.
Horse owners can base out of Equestrian - Oak Mountain State Park, which has direct access to designated riding trails and offers sites with full hookups, fire rings, picnic tables, and a dump station for horse waste. Off-park, day trips reach the Birmingham Zoo, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in Mountain Brook itself, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Vulcan Park, and minor-league baseball at Regions Field. The Cahaba River corridor offers paddling and wildflower walks in late spring.

Central Alabama has a long camping season. Peak season at Oak Mountain State Park runs from March to October, with spring wildflowers, warm lake swimming in summer, and cooler hiking weather returning in October. Beach concessions and canoe, kayak, and boat rentals are only available over the summer, so families planning water activities should target June through August.
Spring is the wettest stretch and also the most active severe-weather season in Alabama, with thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches. Summer brings heat and humidity, with afternoon highs frequently in the low 90s Fahrenheit and high dew points that make shaded, hookup sites with electricity for air conditioning a priority.
Winter camping is viable. The park and campgrounds are open year round, so consider visiting in the winter when the crowds will be minimal, and take advantage of monthly off-season rates. Just be sure to dress warm as temperatures can dip close to freezing.
How to book near Mountain Brook
Alabama State Parks handles Oak Mountain reservations through a single system. To make a Reservation, call 205-620-2520 Option 1, or use the online portal at http://reserve.alapark.com. A full payment will be charged to a credit card on all reservations. Advanced reservations may be made up to one year in advance.
Plan early for busy dates. Holiday weekends must be reserved 3 months in advance. Weekends and major holidays during peak season require a 2- or 3-night minimum stay. Camping rates allow up to eight people per campsite with exceptions for immediate family. For groups larger than eight, please reserve an additional campsite.
Private parks such as Hoover RV Park and Birmingham South RV Park book directly by phone or through their own websites, and typically accept shorter lead times than the state park during peak weekends.
What to expect at Mountain Brook campgrounds
Oak Mountain's campground sits well inside the park. Oak Mountain Campground offers 84 RV and 66 tent sites with a mix of partial and full hookups and primitive sites, and access to 7 bathhouses near Beaver Lake.
Check-out time is 11 a.m., and campers must have checked in at the Camp Store by 4:30 p.m. A separate park entrance fee applies on top of the camping fee. All pets in the park must be on leashes of no more than six feet at all times, and Oak Mountain State Park does not tolerate any aggressive behavior from pets in the park.
The private parks near Mountain Brook lean more utilitarian, with level pull-throughs, full hookups, and easier big-rig access, but less shade and fewer on-site recreation options.

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Mountain Brook, Alabama. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RV use, regardless of size, so even a big Class A motorhome rental in Mountain Brook is fair game with your everyday license. Booking is low risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and there is a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund depends on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, which matters in Alabama where spring storms can shift plans. If you need to change a Mountain Brook RV trip, reach out through your RVezy dashboard and the support team can help you adjust. If your host cancels, you are eligible for a full refund or travel credit. Pro tip: book early for fall football weekends, when Iron Bowl traffic makes rerouting harder than canceling.

For overnight camping, Oak Mountain State Park allows leashed dogs (6-foot max) on trails and at most campsites. Bring a collapsible water bowl, Birmingham summers get muggy fast and shaded creekside walks are your friend.

Yes, RV delivery in Mountain Brook is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are new to RVing. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer it, along with their per-mile fee. Pro tip: delivery to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is also popular if you are flying in and want to skip the rental-car shuffle entirely.

April and October are local favorites, with highs in the low 70s°F, blooming dogwoods, and crisp evenings perfect for a campfire at Oak Mountain. Winters are mild, averaging 50°F highs and 35°F lows, making December through February a quiet, budget-friendly season for campervan rental in Mountain Brook. Heads up: central Alabama sits in 'Dixie Alley,' so check NOAA forecasts during spring tornado season.
weather.gov/bmx/seasonalclimateI have never rented an RV before. Will I know what to do?
First time renting an RV? You are in great hands. Every RVezy host in Mountain Brook gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, water and waste systems, propane, and how to back into a campsite, so nothing is a mystery before you pull away. You can also message hosts before booking with questions, and the RVezy support team is available throughout your trip. Pro tip: pick a Class C motorhome or campervan for your first trip, they drive a lot like an oversized van, and Mountain Brook's wide tree-lined streets are very forgiving for new RVers.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if something goes wrong with the RV on the road?
You are never on your own. Every motorhome rental in Mountain Brook on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed, whether you are parked in your driveway off Cahaba Road or pulled over on I-65 heading to Gulf Shores. For mechanical questions, message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their RV best. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup, it speeds up any roadside call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trip routes from Mountain Brook?
Mountain Brook is a fantastic launchpad for a Southern RV road trip. Top routes include: down US 31 and I-65 to Gulf Shores white-sand beaches (about 5 hours, 290 miles); east on I-20 to Atlanta (about 2 hours, 150 miles) or onward to the Great Smoky Mountains (about 5 hours total); north on I-65 to Nashville's honky-tonks (3 hours, 190 miles); and west to Tupelo, MS and the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway (about 3.5 hours). For something closer, the drive to Cheaha State Park in the Talladega National Forest delivers Alabama's highest point. Cross-border travel into other US states is allowed; trips into Mexico are not covered.
alapark.com/parks/cheaha-state-parkWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for in Alabama?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you think. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 MPG, campervans (Class B) often hit 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle's mileage. Alabama consistently has some of the cheapest gas in the country (often 30 to 50 cents below the national average), and stations along I-65 and I-20 near Mountain Brook are easy for big rigs to navigate, the Pilot in Pelham and Love's in Bessemer are local favorites for RVers. Pro tip: fill up before heading into Talladega National Forest or the Sipsey Wilderness, stations get sparse once you leave the interstate corridor.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Mountain Brook?
Book sooner rather than later for the best sites. Oak Mountain State Park, the crown jewel for RV camping near Mountain Brook, accepts reservations up to one year in advance through reservealapark.com, and holiday weekends fill 3 months out. For spring and fall weekends, aim to book 2 to 3 months ahead; for summer weekdays you can often grab a site 2 to 3 weeks ahead. Private parks like Hoover Met Complex RV Park use their own booking systems and tend to have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: if your dates are sold out, set an alert on CampNab, cancellations happen often at Oak Mountain after the 72-hour cutoff.
reserve.alapark.com/oak-mountain/campsitesWhat is it like driving an RV in and around Mountain Brook?
Driving an RV in Mountain Brook is more relaxed than most metro areas. The village streets are tree-lined and scenic, but watch for low branches along Cahaba Road and stick to wider arteries like US 280 and Lakeshore Parkway with your rig. I-459 and I-65 are easy interstate connectors out of town. Heads up for two things: summer afternoon thunderstorms can drop heavy rain fast (slow down on Red Mountain Expressway), and central Alabama sits in 'Dixie Alley' for spring tornadoes, so check NOAA radar before driving in March or April. Delivery from a host is a great option if you would rather skip city driving entirely.
weather.gov/bmx/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Mountain Brook?
Local campgrounds are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Oak Mountain State Park offers full-hookup RV sites with 50-amp service, hot showers, laundry, a dump station, camp store, plus a marina, golf course, and beaches on Double Oak Lake. Hoover RV Park at the Hoover Met Complex has water, sewer, electric, and Wi-Fi at every site. Birmingham South RV Park includes a pool and full hookups. For dumping or freshwater fill-ups between trips, Oak Mountain and most private parks welcome travelers. Many hosts also include a generator for boondocking, outdoor speakers, awnings, and Wi-Fi hotspots (helpful since rural Alabama coverage can be patchy). Each listing page on RVezy spells out exactly what is included so there are no surprises. Pro tip: message the host to ask about linens and kitchen kits, many Mountain Brook hosts include them free or as a small add-on so you can pack lighter.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Mountain%20Brook%2C%20AlabamaWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
You can customize your rental to fit your trip. Popular add-ons from Mountain Brook hosts include generators, bike racks, kayak and paddleboard mounts, outdoor grills, linen and kitchen packages, and pet packages. For pickup, most hosts offer in-person handoff at their Mountain Brook or greater Birmingham address with a full walkthrough, or paid delivery to your campground, home, or BHM airport. Mileage policies typically run 100 to 150 free miles per night with reasonable overage rates, and generator hours are often included up to a daily limit. Pro tip: confirm pickup and drop-off times in writing through the RVezy chat, mid-morning swaps work best for Birmingham traffic.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038076714-Delivery-optionsHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure, with no cash or paper checks involved. You will pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card when you book, and your card information stays protected by RVezy (the host never sees it). A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition it left. The deposit amount is shown clearly on every listing before you book your Mountain Brook RV rental. Pro tip: take a quick walkaround video at pickup and drop-off, exterior, interior, and tank levels, it is the easiest way to keep your full deposit.
