Campgrounds near Ohatchee, Alabama
Ohatchee sits in Calhoun County in northeast Alabama on the west shore of Neely Henry Lake, an 11,200-acre Coosa River reservoir that runs about 77.6 miles from Neely Henry Dam upstream to Weiss Dam. The town itself is small, but the surrounding lake and the nearby Talladega area give RV travelers a solid mix of waterfront parks and race-week campgrounds within a short drive.
Lake-oriented options cluster along Neely Henry. Greensport RV Park and Campground sits directly on the reservoir, and River Rocks Landing offers another Coosa River shoreline option within easy reach of Ohatchee. Both suit families who want dockside fishing, boat launches, and full-hookup sites without a long tow.
To the south, the Talladega Superspeedway corridor drives a second cluster of parks. Talladega Pit Stop RV Park and Campground, Time Away RV Resort, and GrandStand RV Park - Talladega Alabama cater to race weekends but stay open for general RV travel. Anniston is roughly twenty minutes east, and Birmingham is about an hour west, making Ohatchee a practical base for touring central Alabama.
Things to do around Ohatchee
Fishing is the headline activity. Neely Henry Lake is well known for largemouth and spotted bass, and Alabama Power maintains three public access sites on the reservoir for trailered boats. Crappie, catfish, bluegill, striped bass, and hybrid bass round out the mix, and feeder creeks between the Highway 77 bridge and Neely Henry Dam hold cover-loving fish.
Motorsports drive the other big draw. Talladega Superspeedway is a 2.66-mile tri-oval with 33-degree banking in the turns, making it the longest and one of the fastest tracks on the NASCAR Cup schedule. It hosts a spring Cup weekend and a fall Cup weekend about thirty minutes south of Ohatchee.
For day trips, the Talladega National Forest, Cheaha State Park, and Noccalula Falls in Gadsden add hiking, waterfalls, and scenic drives within an hour of camp.

Ohatchee sits in a humid subtropical climate zone with no true dry season, so campgrounds operate year-round but shoulder seasons are the most comfortable for RV travel. The best stretches to visit are mid-March through May and mid-September through mid-November, when daytime highs are pleasant and humidity is manageable.
Spring brings the strongest fishing pressure and the wettest weather in this part of Alabama, with March typically the rainiest month. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and severe weather is possible during the spring storm season. Bass fishing on Neely Henry peaks as water temperatures climb, and public ramps stay busy on weekends.
Summer is hot and humid, with July highs averaging near ninety and heat indexes routinely higher. Lakeside sites with shade and water access are the most comfortable choice. Fall brings drier, cooler weather and the second Talladega Cup weekend, which pulls RV traffic into the area for the better part of a week and fills nearby parks well before race day.
How to book near Ohatchee
Most Ohatchee-area campgrounds are privately operated and reserved directly through each park's own website or phone line, not a central federal system. Lakeside parks like Greensport RV Park and Campground and River Rocks Landing take reservations directly, with peak fishing weekends and holidays booking out first.
Race-week planning is different. All Talladega Superspeedway campgrounds outside the track open Monday morning of race week, and both reserved and free lots operate on a first come, first served basis once open. Off-track parks such as Talladega Pit Stop RV Park and Campground, Time Away RV Resort, and GrandStand RV Park - Talladega Alabama accept advance bookings and tend to fill months ahead of the spring and fall Cup weekends.
For Alabama State Parks in the region, reservations go through the alapark.com system. Book race weekends well in advance and fishing weekends at least a few weeks out.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Neely Henry Lake tend to be a mix of grass and gravel pads with 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups at the larger parks, and shared boat ramps or marinas on the water. Cell coverage is generally solid along the AL-77 corridor, though some coves and forested loops can be spotty.
Race-weekend parks near Talladega run bigger and busier. At the speedway itself, 50-amp power and water hookups are available in the Alabama Gang Superstretch RV and Frontrunner's Club II Premium areas, and Quiet Time is enforced from midnight to 6:00 AM in designated areas, with speakers and generators required off during those hours. Off-track parks generally follow similar rules on race weekends.
Expect warm, humid conditions in summer, biting insects near the water at dusk, and occasional severe thunderstorms in spring. Pack leveling blocks; lakeside pads can slope toward the water.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Ohatchee, AL
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ohatchee, AL?
RV rental in Ohatchee is one of the best values in Alabama, with rates that comfortably beat most national park gateway towns. Travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes land between $175 and $260, and luxury Class A rigs sit around $250 to $400. You'll save the most by booking midweek, traveling in spring or fall, and choosing a host who offers free local delivery (which can wipe out the cost of renting a tow vehicle). For a cheap RV rental in Ohatchee, filter by travel trailers and look for hosts with multi-night discounts. Pro tip: avoid the weekend of any Talladega Superspeedway race, when rates and demand spike across Calhoun and Talladega counties.
alabama.travel/places-to-stay/campgrounds-rv-parksWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Ohatchee, Alabama?
Good news: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Ohatchee, Alabama. The state of Alabama does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or trailers, even for larger Class A rigs. To book on RVezy, you'll need to be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home country's license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association. Most first-time renters are surprised how simple the paperwork is, so you can focus on planning your route along Neely Henry Lake instead.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book. After that grace period, your refund depends on how many days remain before your trip starts. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides travel credits so your plans aren't stuck. Pro tip: if a severe weather watch is issued for Calhoun County or the Coosa River Valley before your trip, message RVezy support right away so the team can walk you through your options.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Ohatchee is easy to find on RVezy: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see motorhomes and travel trailers whose owners welcome four-legged guests. Many local hosts even leave bowls, leashes, or outdoor mats for their canine visitors. Once you arrive, you'll find dog-friendly spots all around: the trails at Coleman Lake Recreation Area in the Talladega National Forest, the open grounds at Janney Furnace Park in Ohatchee, and pet-welcoming sections at Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina on Logan Martin Lake. Pro tip: Alabama summers get steamy, so book a rig with strong air conditioning and never leave your pup inside a parked RV without shore power running the AC.

Yes, RV delivery in Ohatchee is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer if you're new to towing or just want a stress-free start. Many local hosts will deliver your motorhome or travel trailer straight to nearby campgrounds like Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina, Coleman Lake Recreation Area, or a private property on Logan Martin Lake. They'll level the rig, hook up water and power, and give you a full walkthrough of the systems before they leave. Delivery fees are set by each host and typically scale with distance from their home base. Pro tip: ask about a stationary setup so the RV stays put for your whole trip while you explore by car or boat.

From Ohatchee you're 75 miles from Birmingham, about 110 miles from Huntsville, 105 miles from Atlanta, 160 miles to the Smoky Mountains gateway near Chattanooga, and roughly 250 miles to the Gulf Shores beaches. Pro tip: if you're planning a long haul, message the host before booking to ask about a custom mileage package, many will bundle extra miles at a discount when you commit upfront.
dot.state.al.us/Where should I stay in my RV near Ohatchee?
You've got fantastic options for RV camping in Ohatchee and the surrounding Coosa River Valley. Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina on Logan Martin Lake offers 180+ pull-through sites with full hookups, a marina, and a convenience store. Safe Harbor RV Park in nearby Riverside sits right off I-20 exit 162 with full hookups and lakefront views. Coleman Lake Recreation Area in the Talladega National Forest gives you quiet, wooded sites with electric hookups about 30 minutes east. Choccolocco Creek Campground is another local favorite for creekside camping. Pro tip: for race weekends at Talladega Superspeedway (just 20 minutes south), book your campground at least 4 to 6 months in advance because sites sell out fast.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/alabama/recarea/?recid=29350When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Ohatchee?
The sweet spot for an Ohatchee RV trip is mid-March through late May and again from mid-September through early November, when daytime highs sit comfortably in the 65 to 80 degree Fahrenheit range and humidity is manageable. Summers (June through August) regularly hit 90 degrees with thick humidity and pop-up thunderstorms, so look for a rig with strong dual-zone AC if that's your window. Winters are mild, with daytime highs in the 50s and overnight lows occasionally dipping near freezing, making it a quiet, budget-friendly season to camp. Pro tip: late October is magic in Calhoun County, with fall color on Choccolocco Mountain and cooler nights perfect for campfires by Logan Martin Lake.
weather.gov/bmx/I've never rented an RV before. Is Ohatchee a good place to start?
Ohatchee is a great place for first time renting an RV: it's a quiet rural area with wide county roads, gentle terrain, and short drives to lakes and campgrounds, so you're not thrown straight into city traffic. Every RVezy host gives you a full orientation at pickup, walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and dump procedures before you drive off. You can also message your host with questions before you book, and RVezy support is available 24/7 throughout your trip. Pro tip: choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a 22 to 25 foot travel trailer for your first trip, they're easier to park at Lakeside Landing and far less intimidating on Highway 77.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/towing-trailerWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered: every RV rental in Ohatchee booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Lakeside Landing, exploring the Talladega National Forest, or rolling down I-20. Roadside assistance handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to a qualified repair shop. Your host is also just a message away for quick troubleshooting on quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the propane tank, fuse panel, and water hookups during your walkthrough, when you call support having those details ready turns a 30-minute fix into a 10-minute one.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Ohatchee RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RV rentals in Ohatchee, so popular routes like Ohatchee to Nashville, Ohatchee to the Great Smoky Mountains, or Ohatchee to Gulf Shores are totally on the table. Canada travel is sometimes allowed depending on the host and the protection plan you select, so message the owner from the listing page before booking to confirm. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend across that border. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state RV road trip from Ohatchee, ask the host upfront about extra mileage so the budget stays predictable.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and fuel won't surprise you. Class C motorhomes around Ohatchee average 8 to 12 miles per gallon on regular unleaded, Class A gas rigs run 6 to 10 mpg, campervans (Class B) deliver 14 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). Alabama gas prices are consistently among the lowest in the country, often 30 to 50 cents below the national average, with affordable stations in Anniston, Pell City, and along I-20. For a typical 3-night, 300-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Oxford or Pell City rather than at lakeside marinas, where convenience pricing can be significantly higher.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Ohatchee?
For most weekends in Ohatchee, 3 to 6 weeks of lead time is plenty, but a few dates need much earlier action. Talladega Superspeedway race weekends (typically April and October) sell out lakeside campgrounds 4 to 6 months in advance, so lock those in early. For Talladega National Forest sites like Coleman Lake and Pine Glen, use Recreation.gov, where bookings open 6 months ahead. Private parks like Lakeside Landing RV Park & Marina and Safe Harbor RV Park take direct reservations by phone or website. Pro tip: if a popular site shows 'booked,' check again on Sunday evenings, that's when cancellations tend to release back into the system for the following weekend.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Ohatchee?
Driving an RV around Ohatchee is refreshingly relaxed compared to most southern destinations. Highway 77 and Highway 144 are wide, lightly trafficked rural routes ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel. I-20, just 15 minutes south, is a smooth four-lane corridor connecting you to Birmingham and Atlanta. Watch for occasional rolling terrain in the Choccolocco Mountain area east of town, where grades can hit 5 to 7 percent, and use a lower gear on long descents. Summer afternoons can bring heavy thunderstorms with brief crosswinds, so if you see a storm building, pull off at a safe rest area. Pro tip: avoid the Highway 78 corridor through downtown Anniston during weekday rush hour (4 to 6 pm) and detour via I-20 instead.
algotraffic.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Ohatchee?
You'll find a great mix of full-service and rustic options around Ohatchee. Lakeside Landing RV Park on Logan Martin Lake offers full hookups (30/50 amp electric, water, sewer), free WiFi and cable TV, laundry, a convenience store, on-water fuel pumps, and boat launches. Safe Harbor RV Park in Riverside has 35 pull-through sites with full hookups and shoreline access. Talladega National Forest sites like Coleman Lake offer electric hookups, potable water spigots, bathhouses with hot showers, and a dump station near the entrance. Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump tanks before leaving town if you're heading into the national forest, as primitive sites won't have at-site hookups but the central dump station and water fill are well-maintained.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/alabama/recarea/?recid=29350What features and amenities come with an Ohatchee RV rental?
Expect more comfort than you'd guess from a motorhome rental in Ohatchee. Most rigs come with a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, sink, cookware), a private bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8 people with proper seatbelts for travel, roof and dash air conditioning, a propane furnace, and entertainment options like a TV. Many hosts add WiFi hotspots, onboard generators for off-grid use at Coleman Lake, outdoor camp chairs, and even kayaks or bikes as add-ons. Campervan rental in Ohatchee tends to be more minimalist but extremely fuel-efficient for couples. Pro tip: filter listings by Generator and Sleeps 6+ if you want a family RV trip in Ohatchee that handles both lakeside hookups and a night of boondocking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ohatchee%2C%20AlabamaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts in Ohatchee offer some seriously useful add-ons that can elevate your trip: linen and bedding packages, kitchen kits with pots and dishes, generators, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, propane refills, bike racks, and even fishing gear since Logan Martin and Neely Henry are bass-fishing legends. Pickup is usually at the host's home base, but delivery to your campground is a popular alternative. Mileage policies typically range from 100 to 200 free miles per day, with extra miles billed per mile by the host. Pro tip: book a Friday afternoon pickup and Monday morning drop-off, many hosts treat that as a 3-night booking but give you nearly 4 days of trip time.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Ohatchee%2C%20AlabamaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: when you book your RV rental in Ohatchee through RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, and your money is held safely until your trip begins, so you're never handing cash to a stranger. A security deposit is placed as a separate hold on your card before pickup and released after drop-off, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walk-around video with your host at both pickup and return, empty the tanks (or pay the dump fee), and refill the fuel to the level you received it. Pro tip: keep your fuel receipt from the Pell City or Anniston station as proof, just in case.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's the local insider move for an Ohatchee RV trip?
Here's the local secret: skip the obvious lakefront crowds and base yourself near Janney Furnace Park in Ohatchee, a 19th-century iron furnace ruin set in a quiet riverside park that locals love for picnics and Civil War history. From there, you're 20 minutes from Talladega Superspeedway, 25 minutes from the Anniston Museum of Natural History, 30 minutes from Cheaha State Park (Alabama's highest point at 2,413 feet, with an unforgettable sunset overlook), and just 10 minutes from boat ramps on Neely Henry Lake. It's the kind of central spot that turns a simple weekend into a 'how did we not know about this?' trip. Pro tip: pack a kayak (many hosts rent them as add-ons), the calm coves of Neely Henry at sunrise are pure magic.
