Campgrounds and RV parks near Redland, AL

History drives many trips to this part of Alabama. Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson Park sits in Elmore County where the Coosa and Tallapoosa meet to form the Alabama River, a National Historic Landmark that has been occupied for 10,000 years. The park preserves a reconstructed 1751 French fort, replica Creek Indian houses, and a partially restored 1814 American fort built on the same ground. Visitors can also see an ancient Indian mound and walk shaded nature trails along the rivers. In Montgomery, families can visit the Rosa Parks Museum, the Hank Williams Museum, the state capitol, and Riverwalk Stadium for Montgomery Biscuits baseball. Lake Jordan and Lake Martin offer day-trip options for boating and swimming. On-water options near Redland include fishing and kayaking on the Coosa, Alabama River boat ramps, and shoreline access from Camp Sherrye on the Coosa and Montgomery Marina RV Resort.

Central Alabama has a humid subtropical climate with four usable RV seasons, though summer heat and humidity are the main planning constraint. The warmest month is typically July, with an average high of 93°F, while the coldest month is usually January, with average highs near 59°F. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for tent campers and anyone traveling with kids or pets. The wettest month is usually March, and thunderstorms are common from late spring through summer. There is no dry season, however, rainfall decreases somewhat from September to November, which makes early fall an appealing time to visit. Severe weather season peaks in spring, so travelers should monitor NWS Birmingham alerts and confirm each campground's shelter plan on arrival. Winter camping is workable but wet. During strings of heavy rain days, some low-lying sites near rivers may become soggy, and rising water levels can force site changes, so check with the park before booking riverfront pads from December through March.

Sites near the rivers are generally shaded and level, though tree cover can limit satellite reception and rooftop solar output. Cell coverage is solid across the Montgomery metro and thins out on rural county roads north and east of Redland. Bring bug spray from April through October; mosquitoes are aggressive near still water. Roads into private parks like Capital City RV Park and Montgomery KOA are paved and RV-friendly. Access to Gunter Hill involves several miles of two-lane road that large rigs can handle with attention. Grocery, propane, and dump stations are available in Montgomery, Prattville, and Wetumpka. Summer campers should plan for high humidity, afternoon thunderstorms, and heat-index days above 100°F. Pool access, shaded sites, and 50-amp service for air conditioning are worth prioritizing when comparing parks.
