Campgrounds near Riverside, Alabama
Riverside sits on the north shore of Logan Martin Lake in St. Clair County, roughly half an hour east of Birmingham along Interstate 20. The area is a working lake community with a fish-camp feel, and most RV parks trade on two things: waterfront access to the roughly 15,000-acre reservoir and quick reach to Talladega Superspeedway, a short drive east.
Safe Harbor RV Park is the closest option, positioned about a half-mile from I-20 exit 162 with a mix of pull-through and long-term sites on 23 acres of Logan Martin shoreline. Angler's Pointe and Time Away RV Resort round out the lakeside options on the Riverside side of the water. Closer to the track, GrandStand RV Park - Talladega Alabama and Talladega Pit Stop RV Park and Campground cater to race fans and travelers who prioritize speedway access over lake frontage.
Expect a mix of independent, family-run parks rather than large chain resorts. Site types range from full-hookup pull-throughs suitable for big rigs down to more rustic waterfront sites.
Things to do near Riverside
Logan Martin Lake anchors the local activity list. The reservoir is known for largemouth and spotted bass fishing, and shoreline parks provide boat launches, swim areas, and space for kayaking or bank fishing. Safe Harbor RV Park offers a private boat launch and roughly 1,500 feet of shoreline, which is useful for travelers bringing a boat.
Talladega Superspeedway is the other major draw, hosting NASCAR Cup Series races in spring (Jack Link's 500) and fall (YellaWood 500), plus the NASCAR Racing Experience ride-along program on select non-race dates. The 2.66-mile track sits a short drive east on I-20 near Lincoln.
Off the water and away from the track, families can find parks and walking paths in nearby Pell City, plus classic Coosa River catfish spots like The Ark restaurant near Safe Harbor RV Park.

The Riverside area runs on a long warm season. Summers are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, while winters are short, cool, and among the wetter times of the year. Most lakefront RV parks around Logan Martin operate year-round, so shoulder-season and winter stays are possible, though some amenities such as swim areas and pool access scale back once temperatures drop.
Bookings around Talladega are driven by the NASCAR calendar. The two Cup Series race weekends, held in late April and late October, are the tightest windows of the year for any RV park within roughly thirty miles of the track. Track-adjacent private campgrounds fill months in advance, and speedway-owned camping on the property has its own reservation timeline through the track ticket office.
Spring brings peak fishing pressure on Logan Martin, and March tends to be among the wettest months. Fall is often the most balanced season for weather, with cooler nights, generally drier conditions, and lower humidity than summer.
How to book
For non-race weekends, most independent parks in Riverside, Lincoln, and Pell City take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Safe Harbor RV Park, Angler's Pointe, Time Away RV Resort, and other Logan Martin properties generally recommend booking a few weeks out for summer weekends, and longer for holidays.
For Talladega Superspeedway race weekends, planning windows are much longer. Track-adjacent options like GrandStand RV Park - Talladega Alabama and Talladega Pit Stop RV Park and Campground routinely sell out months in advance for the Jack Link's 500 and YellaWood 500. Infield and reserved RV camping on speedway property is booked directly through the Talladega Superspeedway ticket office, and campers should confirm required wristbands and gate-open times with the track before arrival.
What to expect on-site
Most parks in the Riverside area are modest, family-run operations rather than resort-style properties. Sites are typically gravel or grass, with 30/50-amp service, water, and sewer at full-hookup sites. Pull-throughs at Safe Harbor RV Park are set up for larger rigs and easy overnight stops off I-20.
Expect a quiet, lake-oriented atmosphere on the Logan Martin side, with boat launches, docks, and fishing common. Track-side parks like Talladega Pit Stop RV Park and Campground lean into the race atmosphere on event weekends, and most Riverside-area parks are pet-friendly with leash rules.
Cell coverage is generally reliable along the I-20 corridor between Birmingham and Atlanta. Groceries, fuel, and propane are easy to find in Pell City, Lincoln, and at exits along I-20.

Class A motorhomes get about 7 to 10 miles per gallon (mpg), Class C around 10 to 14 mpg, campervans 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg combined). Alabama gas prices are typically near or slightly below the national average. Diesel is widely available at the Pilot and Love's truck stops along I-20. For lakeside private campgrounds, aim for 2 to 3 months in advance during peak summer and 4 to 6 months for race weekends. Cheaha State Park bookings open through the Alabama State Parks system up to 11 months ahead, and the best ridge-view sites go fast. Midweek stays in spring and fall are often available with just a week's notice. alapark.com/reservationsWhat are the driving conditions like around Riverside, AL?
You'll find Riverside one of the easier places in Alabama to drive an RV. I-20 cuts right through town with wide lanes and plenty of truck-friendly exits, and US-78 offers a slower scenic alternative near Logan Martin Lake. Terrain is gently rolling with no steep mountain passes, and you won't deal with big-city traffic unless you head into Birmingham at rush hour. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms from May through August, which can bring heavy rain and gusty winds across the lake bridges. Deer are active at dawn and dusk on rural roads near Lincoln and Pell City. Pro tip: avoid I-20 westbound on Sunday evenings, that's when race traffic from Talladega backs up toward Birmingham.

Cell service is generally strong along I-20 and around Logan Martin Lake but can be spotty in Talladega National Forest.
