Overview of campgrounds near Springville
Springville sits in St. Clair County in the foothills of the Appalachians, about 30 miles northeast of Birmingham along I-59. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of two Coosa River reservoirs, Neely Henry Lake to the north and Logan Martin Lake to the south. Logan Martin is one of the Alabama Power storage lakes on the Coosa River system, spanning roughly 15,263 acres across St. Clair and Talladega counties, with about 275 miles of shoreline.
Waterfront options dominate the nearby inventory. Greensport RV Park & Campground sits on Neely Henry Lake with full hookups and marina access, while Unhitched Logan-Martin Lake RV Park and Safe Harbor RV Park serve travelers focused on the Logan Martin shoreline. Carson Village Moblie Home and RV Park adds a simpler in-town base for overnight stays.
For a different kind of stop, Horse Pens 40 is a privately owned outdoor nature park in St. Clair County near Steele, situated atop Chandler Mountain in the foothills of the Appalachians, and known in the climbing community as a premier bouldering site in the American Southeast.
Things to do near Springville
Fishing and boating drive most trips. Logan Martin Lake holds largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, catfish, sunfish, white bass, and hybrid striped bass, and Neely Henry offers similar water with boat-ramp and marina access at Greensport RV Park & Campground.
Horse Pens 40 anchors the land-based activities. The park covers more than 2,000 acres of sandstone boulder fields, hardwood forest, and streams, and it hosts hiking, world-class bouldering, cabin stays, and a Bluegrass Park that runs festivals several times a year, with the largest around the Fourth of July.
Day trips into Birmingham add the zoo, science and civil-rights museums, and dining, while Talladega National Forest and Oak Mountain State Park sit within about an hour for hiking, swimming, and mountain biking.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Springville. Daytime highs are comfortable, humidity is lower than midsummer, and lake levels on the Coosa chain stay near full pool through the warm months. Spring is also the wettest stretch of the year, so watch severe-weather forecasts: central Alabama sits inside a traditional tornado corridor, and thunderstorm activity peaks from March into May.
Summer brings the busiest campgrounds. Families book waterfront sites at Greensport RV Park & Campground, Safe Harbor RV Park, and Unhitched Logan-Martin Lake RV Park well ahead of holiday weekends, and daytime heat pushes most fishing to early morning and evening, with anglers moving to deeper water and shaded creek mouths.
Fall cools quickly after Labor Day and lines up with the Horse Pens 40 bluegrass and bouldering calendar, including the Triple Crown bouldering event. Winters are mild but wet, with occasional freezes; smaller private parks may reduce staffing, though most lakeside RV parks in the area operate year-round.
How to book campgrounds near Springville
Most campgrounds in this area are privately owned, so reservations run through each park's own website or phone line rather than a single federal or state portal. Greensport RV Park & Campground takes bookings directly and also lists inventory on third-party platforms. Horse Pens 40 handles camping, cabins, and day-use fees through its own office and camp store. Carson Village Moblie Home and RV Park, Safe Harbor RV Park, and Unhitched Logan-Martin Lake RV Park all operate as independent parks with direct booking.
For state-run alternatives within driving distance, Alabama State Parks including Oak Mountain to the southwest use the reserve.alapark.com portal or the park phone line. Waterfront sites fill first on summer weekends and around bluegrass and bouldering events at Horse Pens 40, so book several weeks out for peak dates.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Springville is rolling and wooded, with narrow county roads leading to lake access points. Larger rigs generally do well at the Coosa-lake parks that market pull-through sites, though some upper sections have tree cover and uneven ground, so leveling blocks help. Cell coverage is generally reliable near I-59 and thins in coves and on Chandler Mountain.
Hookups vary. Full 30/50-amp service is standard at the RV-focused parks on the Coosa lakes, while Horse Pens 40 leans rustic, with limited electric sites, primitive camping, small cabins, a store, and a cafe on site. Expect summer humidity, active insect seasons from late spring through early fall, and afternoon thunderstorms that build quickly.
Bring lake gear if the trip centers on the water: life jackets, tackle suited to bass and crappie, and an Alabama fishing license for anyone 16 or older.

Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $300 per night, and larger Class A coaches run $275 to $450 per night. Alabama does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for recreational vehicles used for personal travel, even larger Class A motorhomes. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Whether you're driving a campervan to Big Canoe Creek Nature Preserve or towing a fifth wheel to Logan Martin Lake, you're backed up if something unexpected happens. It isn't traditional auto insurance, but it provides real financial protection that personal auto policies typically won't extend to an RV rental. Pick your plan at booking and focus on the fun part: planning your stops.

Budgeting fuel is easy once you know the ballpark. Class A motorhomes typically get 7 to 10 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes 10 to 14 mpg, Class B campervans 18 to 22 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (often 10 to 14 mpg combined). Alabama consistently has some of the lowest fuel prices in the country, often well below the national average. Most rentals around Springville run on regular unleaded; diesel pumps are easy to find at Pilot, Love's, and Flying J stops along I-59. Pro tip: fill up in Springville or Trussville before heading toward more rural stretches near Lookout Mountain where prices can climb.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Springville?
For the most popular Alabama State Park campgrounds (Oak Mountain, Cheaha, Lake Guntersville, Wind Creek), book through the official Alabama State Parks reservation system about 6 months ahead for summer weekends and holidays, and at least 60 days ahead for spring and fall weekends. Private parks like Birmingham South RV Park and Lakeside Landing tend to have more last-minute availability, often bookable 2 to 4 weeks out. NASCAR weekends at Talladega Superspeedway (about 50 miles east) and Iron Bowl weekends fill everything within 100 miles, so plan months ahead. Pro tip: Tuesday through Thursday nights are almost always available, even at flagship parks.
alapark.com/reservationsWhat are driving conditions like around Springville and the Birmingham area?
Driving an RV around Springville is generally relaxed, you're on rolling Appalachian foothills with Interstate 59 and U.S. 11 as your main arteries. Watch for two things: Birmingham rush hour on I-65 and I-20 (avoid 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) and occasional severe spring weather, especially March through May, when checking the National Weather Service Birmingham forecast before driving day is smart. Mountain grades on I-59 toward Gadsden and Cheaha are moderate and manageable for any RV. Most Alabama interstate bridge clearances exceed 14 feet, but always confirm your rental's height with the host before tackling lower secondary routes.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Springville,AlabamaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy's platform with a credit or debit card when you book, never directly to the host. Your trip total includes the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, your chosen protection plan, and any add-ons. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is typically a temporary hold on your card placed shortly before your trip starts, then released after drop-off assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid deposit issues, do a walk-around video at pickup and drop-off, stick to the agreed mileage and pet policies, and return the RV on time with the agreed fuel level. Easy, transparent, no surprises.
