Campgrounds and RV parks near Fox River, AK

Fox River is a small census-designated place at the head of Kachemak Bay on the western side of the Kenai Peninsula, northeast of Homer, where the Fox River drains from the Kenai Mountains into the bay. Population is under a thousand, and the area functions as a rural staging point for RV travelers exploring the southern Kenai Peninsula rather than as a destination town in itself. Most developed campgrounds sit along the Sterling Highway corridor between Kasilof and Homer. Alaska State Parks operates several recreation sites in the area, including Crooked Creek State Recreation Site near the Kasilof River and Clam Gulch State Recreation Area on the bluffs above Cook Inlet. Private full-hookup options concentrate on and near the Homer Spit, roughly a thirty-minute drive from the Fox River area. RV travelers typically base out of Kasilof RV Park, Crooked Creek State Recreation Site, Clam Gulch State Recreation Area, Heritage RV Park, or Edgewater Lodge and RV Park, then day-trip to the head of Kachemak Bay, Homer, and the state parks along the western coastline.

Alaska State Parks sites, including Crooked Creek State Recreation Site and Clam Gulch State Recreation Area, use ReserveAmerica for the Alaska State Park Agency. Reservations can be made several months in advance, and cancellations typically require at least three calendar days before arrival for a full refund, minus transaction fees. Some sites remain first-come, first-served on arrival. Private parks on and near the Homer Spit, such as Heritage RV Park and Edgewater Lodge and RV Park, book directly through their own websites or by phone. Heritage RV Park opens its summer reservation window well in advance of the season and fills quickly for prime bay-facing sites. City of Homer campgrounds are first-come, first-served and do not accept reservations, so plan an early-day arrival in July and August.
