Golfers can play the 18-hole course at Millwood Landing, and day trips reach downtown Texarkana, Wright Patman Lake, and Crater of Diamonds State Park about 90 minutes northeast.

Spring is the busiest window. March through May brings warming temperatures, peak crappie action on Millwood Lake, and heavy migration for birders, but it is also the wettest stretch and Arkansas's primary severe-thunderstorm season. May averages the most rainfall of any month, and low-lying sites can be soft after multi-day rains, so rigs should arrive weather-aware. Summer runs hot and humid, with daytime highs frequently in the 90s Fahrenheit and afternoon thunderstorms. Bug pressure rises around the lake, and shaded sites book first. This is prime catfish and bream season, and holiday weekends fill quickly at both the state park and private resorts. Fall brings the most comfortable camping conditions: cooler nights, lower humidity, and a second crappie bite. The Millwood State Park campground remains open year-round. Winter is mild by North American standards, occasionally dipping below freezing, and offers open sites and quieter shorelines for anglers who don't mind cool mornings.

Sites at Millwood State Park are set among mixed hardwood and pine along the lake. The full-hookup section has less shade but offers level sites with lake views, while the water and electric loop has more tree cover. The campground layout uses a one-way road, and visitors have noted that some sites can be tight for maneuvering larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally usable near the lake but can be spotty in the deeper loops, and Verizon signal has been reported as weak. Pets are welcome on leash in most areas, though the park restricts pets in Loop B. Expect biting insects from late spring through early fall, humid nights in summer, and occasional severe-weather advisories; plan for shade, screens, and a NOAA weather radio.
