Campgrounds and RV parks near Blytheville, AR

Outdoor activity concentrates along the Mississippi River corridor. Fort Pillow State Historic Park is designated as a Wildlife Observation Area by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, with interpretive signs identifying species and habitat, and the park provides sanctuary for deer, turkey, and bird watchers. Electric trolling motors are allowed on the 15-acre lake and gas motors must adhere to a No Wake policy, and Fort Pillow Lake is stocked with bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park sits along the Mississippi River less than 20 miles north of Memphis, with portions atop the Chickasaw Bluffs, and features hardwood forest, wetlands, and lakes with opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, paddling, and wildlife viewing. Poplar Tree Lake supports fishing and paddling, and the park also features a 36-hole disc golf course. Memphis is roughly an hour south for barbecue, Beale Street, and Graceland, making it an easy day trip from any of the area campgrounds.

The region has a humid subtropical climate. Its geographical position within the southern United States contributes to a weather regime marked by warm to hot summers and mild winters. Summer is the busiest camping stretch, but it is also the hottest and most humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common and biting insects active in the bottomland forests. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. April through June offers good visibility, longer daylight, and temperatures oscillating between the low 50s and upper 70s Fahrenheit. Wildflowers and migrating birds along the Mississippi flyway are highlights. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color on the bluffs. Winter is quiet. State park campgrounds at Fort Pillow and Meeman-Shelby stay open year-round, but expect chilly nights, occasional freezes, and limited ranger programming. The maximum stay for camping at Tennessee State Parks is 14 days, extended to 28 days from December 1 to February 28 or 29, which suits snowbirds passing through on I-55.

In-town parks are compact and utility-focused. Willow RV Park and similar Blytheville stops offer level pull-throughs, full hookups, and quick highway access, but limited shade and no lake or trail system on-site. They work well as one-night stops or as a base for exploring the delta. State parks across the river feel very different. Fort Pillow's Family Campground has fifteen campsites that accommodate RVs and campers with 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical and water hookups, with sites varying in length and some accommodating rigs up to 60 feet. Meeman-Shelby offers 49 campsites equipped with a table, grill, and electrical and water hookups; several sites also feature sewer hookups, and a dump station serves sites without them. Tennessee State Parks asks that all campfires be made with heat-treated wood or downed wood collected inside the park, so avoid bringing untreated firewood from home.
