Camping near De Queen, Arkansas
De Queen sits in southwest Arkansas near the Oklahoma line, with camping options spread across the Ouachita National Forest, Corps of Engineers lakes, and state parks on both sides of the border. The area gives RV travelers access to trout streams, mountain lakes, and pine-hardwood forest within a short drive of town.
The biggest draw in the area is Beavers Bend State Park, located in the mountainous region of southeast Oklahoma along the shores of Broken Bow Lake and the Mountain Fork River. Named campgrounds inside the park, including Acorn and Fern, offer river-adjacent RV sites, while Beavers Bend State Park and Nature Center anchors the main day-use area on the Mountain Fork River.
Closer to town, Creekside RV Park and River Camp RV serve travelers who want full hookups without the state-park reservation window. The region works well for families combining trout fishing, hiking, and lake time in a single trip.
Things to do around De Queen
The Mountain Fork River is stocked with trout throughout the year, and the park features two catch-and-release trophy areas. Float trips, kayaking, and gentle rafting are popular below the Broken Bow dam, while the lake itself supports boating, swimming, and paddleboarding.
On land, visitors hike, bike, boat, fish, water ski, and horseback ride through the park, and the Forest Heritage Center museum sits near the nature center. The Beavers Bend State Park and Nature Center runs programs geared toward kids.
On the Arkansas side, De Queen Lake offers quieter fishing and picnicking, and Cossatot River State Park Natural Area draws paddlers when water levels cooperate.

Spring is warm and wet. May is typically among the rainiest months, and river levels can rise quickly after storms, which affects float trips and low-water crossings on forest roads. Wildflowers peak in April, and the trout streams stay active.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs commonly in the low 90s and heat-index values much higher. This is peak season for the Broken Bow Lake corridor, and campsites can book up fast, especially on summer and holiday weekends, so booking a minimum of six months in advance is recommended.
Fall brings the region's best camping weather: cooler nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color through late October and early November. Annual events, including the Beavers Bend Folk Festival in November, draw additional visitors. Winter is mild by regional standards but includes occasional freezes and rare snow; the park is open year round with reduced services.
How to book campsites near De Queen
Beavers Bend State Park uses the Oklahoma State Parks reservation platform. The 3,482-acre park offers 47 cabins with kitchenettes, plus 393 campsites and over 50 tent sites spread over eight camping areas, and all RV and tent sites are available for online reservations. Reservations must be made one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. For summer holiday weekends, booking six months out is realistic.
Check cancellation terms on the Oklahoma State Parks portal before booking, as refund windows and forfeit rules vary by site type.
Private parks near De Queen, including Creekside RV Park and River Camp RV, generally book directly by phone or through their websites and offer shorter lead times.
What to expect on the ground
Sites inside Beavers Bend are shaded and close together, with a mix of modern and semi-modern loops. Nestled among the trees and alongside the Mountain Fork River are rustic and modern cabins, RV sites and tent campsites, as well as two group camps. Full hookups inside the state park are limited, so travelers needing sewer often stage at a private park and day-trip into the park. Waste dump stations are available.
Cell coverage is spotty in the river canyons and along forest roads. Gravel forest roads leading to backcountry campgrounds can become challenging after heavy rainfall.
Black bears are present in the Broken Bow area, so food should be secured. Leashed pets are welcome in the park, and a parking pass is required for vehicles staying inside Beavers Bend.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near De Queen, AR
How much does an RV rental in De Queen cost?
RV rental in De Queen is one of the most affordable ways to explore southwest Arkansas, with most rentals on RVezy typically ranging from about $90 to $200 per night depending on RV type and season. Travel trailers and pop-ups sit at the lower end, while Class C motorhomes and larger fifth wheels land at the top. To find a cheap RV rental in De Queen, aim for weekday pickups, book outside the May to July peak around De Queen Lake, and look for hosts offering multi-night discounts. Pro tip: bundling delivery with a 4 to 7 night stay at Oak Grove or Pine Ridge often costs less than nightly hotel rates in Texarkana.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=De%20Queen%2C%20ArkansasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in De Queen, Arkansas?
Good news: for nearly every RV you can rent in De Queen, your standard driver's license is all you need. Arkansas only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds, and virtually every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel listed on RVezy falls well under that limit. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and you will verify your ID through the platform when you book. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license.

The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick what feels right for your family. Roadside help is one tap away if you get a flat on US-71 or need a jump near Bellah Mine. It delivers real financial peace of mind so you can focus on the lake, not the paperwork.

After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out you are from your trip start date. You will see the exact terms during checkout and in your RVezy dashboard. Absolutely, and southwest Arkansas is a dream for dogs. Use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching for a pet-friendly RV rental in De Queen and you will see plenty of hosts who welcome four-legged guests, sometimes with a small cleaning fee. De Queen Lake's Corps of Engineers campgrounds (Oak Grove, Pine Ridge, and Bellah Mine) allow leashed pets in most day-use and camping areas. Gillham Lake and Dierks Lake nearby are equally welcoming. Pro tip: pack a long lead, paw-friendly water shoes for rocky shorelines, and a cooling mat for July afternoons when temps regularly hit the low 90s.
swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Lakes/DeQueen-Lake/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in De Queen?
Yes, RV delivery in De Queen is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're a first-time renter. Many RVezy hosts will tow or drive the rig directly to Oak Grove, Pine Ridge, Bellah Mine, or Chapel Hill RV Park, level it, hook up water and 30/50-amp power, and give you a full walkthrough before they leave. Just filter by Delivery on the RVezy search page, then message the host with your campsite number and arrival time. Delivery fees typically scale with mileage from the host's base. For families flying into Texarkana Regional Airport about an hour south, this turns your campervan rental De Queen experience into a true keys-in-hand vacation.
arkansas.com/de-queen/outdoor-recreation/de-queen-lakeHow far can I drive on a De Queen RV trip?
You've got serious range from De Queen, and many hosts offer generous mileage packages (some even include unlimited mileage on longer bookings, so ask before you book). From downtown De Queen, Hot Springs National Park is about 110 miles northeast (roughly 2 hours), Broken Bow Lake in Oklahoma sits 45 miles west, Texarkana is 70 miles south, Little Rock is 150 miles northeast, and Mount Magazine, Arkansas's highest point, is about 130 miles north. A De Queen RV trip up Highway 71 through the Ouachita National Forest is one of the most scenic drives in the state. Pro tip: confirm the host's per-mile rate during booking so longer loops stay budget-friendly.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/mount-magazine-state-parkWhere should I camp during my De Queen RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in De Queen. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) operates three excellent campgrounds on De Queen Lake: Oak Grove (36 sites, boat ramp, swim beach), Pine Ridge (45 sites on a wooded ridge overlooking the lake), and Bellah Mine (24 sites on the quieter north end, great for fishing). All offer water and electric hookups, flush toilets, showers, and a dump station. Chapel Hill RV Park, six minutes from downtown, has full hookups and Wi-Fi for travelers who want easy in-and-out access. Reserve Corps sites on Recreation.gov and lock in lakefront spots before they vanish in spring.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/534When is the best time to rent an RV in De Queen?
April through early June and September through October are the sweet spots for an RV rental De Queen Arkansas adventure. Spring brings dogwoods in bloom around Cossatot Reefs and Gillham Lake, with highs in the 70s and 80s and that famous bass spawn on De Queen Lake. Fall offers crisp 60-to-75F days, fewer mosquitoes, and quieter campgrounds. Summer (June through August) gets hot and humid with average highs near 93F and heat indices that can climb past 110F, so plan early-morning hikes and lots of lake time. Winters are short but chilly, dipping to the mid-30s at night. Pro tip: book April weekends 60 days out, they fill fast.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around De Queen?
You're going to do great, and De Queen is genuinely one of the friendlier places to learn. Most first-time renters choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer between 22 and 28 feet, which handles like a large van or pickup. Your host gives a full walkthrough at pickup covering the propane, water systems, generator, and slide-outs, and you can text them during the trip with questions. Local roads like US-71 and US-70 are wide, straight, and low-traffic outside of town, perfect for getting comfortable. Pro tip: do one practice loop around the De Queen Walmart parking lot before heading to De Queen Lake. By campsite check-in, you'll feel like a pro.
arkansashighways.com/What happens if something breaks down during my De Queen trip?
Help is one phone call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering services like tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing if needed. De Queen sits at the crossroads of US-71 and US-70, with service stations, tire shops, and auto parts stores right in town, so you are never far from a fix. For RV-specific repairs, Texarkana (about 70 miles south) and Hot Springs (about 110 miles northeast) have full-service RV centers. Message your host first for quick fixes (most know their rig inside and out), then loop in RVezy support if you need more help.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take a De Queen RV across state lines into Oklahoma or Texas?
Yes, and crossing into Oklahoma or Texas is one of the best parts of an RV road trip from De Queen. The Oklahoma border sits just 30 miles west, putting Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend State Park within easy reach for a long weekend. Texarkana straddles the Texas line about 70 miles south. RVezy insurance coverage is valid for travel within the continental United States, so interstate trips are good to go. For cross-border travel into Canada or Mexico, confirm with your host and RVezy in advance, as coverage and approvals can vary.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a De Queen RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest expense after the rental itself, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes around De Queen average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Arkansas gas prices typically run 20 to 40 cents below the national average, and De Queen has affordable stations along US-71 including Murphy USA and EZ Mart. For a 300-mile weekend loop to Hot Springs and back, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in De Queen before heading toward remote Cossatot River State Park, where stations are scarce.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near De Queen?
For De Queen Lake's Corps of Engineers sites at Oak Grove, Pine Ridge, and Bellah Mine, book through Recreation.gov as soon as your dates are locked. Reservations open up to six months ahead, and waterfront sites for Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and the spring bass-fishing weekends get claimed quickly after release. For shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, and October, two to four weeks out is usually plenty. Chapel Hill RV Park and other private parks near De Queen take direct bookings and are more flexible. Pro tip: set a Recreation.gov alert at the 6-month mark for the best lakefront pads at Pine Ridge.
recreation.gov/What are the local driving conditions like around De Queen?
Driving an RV around De Queen is refreshingly stress-free. The main routes (US-71 north-south and US-70 east-west) are two-lane and four-lane highways with gentle grades through the Ouachita foothills, light traffic, and clear sightlines. There are no major mountain passes or tight switchbacks near town. Watch for occasional logging trucks on US-71 (timber is a major local industry), sudden spring thunderstorms with heavy rain on US-70, and patchy morning fog in Sevier County valleys. Deer are most active at dawn and dusk, so plan campground arrivals before sunset. Pro tip: avoid driving north on Highway 70 toward Dierks during heavy rain, low-water crossings can flood quickly.
ardot.gov/travel-information/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around De Queen?
You'll be well looked after. The three Corps of Engineers campgrounds on De Queen Lake (Oak Grove, Pine Ridge, and Bellah Mine) all offer water and 30/50-amp electric hookups, flush toilets, hot showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and a centralized dump station, plus boat ramps and swim beaches. There's no sewer at individual sites, so plan one stop at the dump station before heading home. Drinking water spigots are scattered throughout each loop for tank fills. Chapel Hill RV Park offers full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp) and Wi-Fi for travelers who want connectivity. The best campgrounds near De Queen all sit within 15 minutes of town for ice, groceries, and bait runs.

arkansas.com/de-queen/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your rent an RV in De Queen reservation, RVezy charges your card for the rental total plus taxes and any add-ons through the platform, with no cash exchanges with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup and released after a clean, damage-free return. To avoid any deposit hiccups, do the walkthrough with your host, photograph the exterior and interior at pickup and dropoff, return with the same fuel and propane levels, and follow your host's instructions for the holding tanks. Easy in, easy out.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat insider tip will make my De Queen RV trip special?
Here's the local secret: most visitors hit De Queen Lake and stop there, but the real magic is a short hop east to the Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area, about 30 miles from town. The Cossatot's Class III-IV rapids are some of the most thrilling whitewater between the Mississippi and the Rockies, and the visitor center sits on a bluff with stunning views. Pair a morning paddle or scenic drive there with an afternoon at Gillham Lake's Big Coon Creek Campground and you'll have a family RV trip De Queen story no one else has. Pro tip: stop at Janssen Park in downtown De Queen on the way back for a free picnic spot with a spring-fed pond and a vintage caboose the kids love.
