Campgrounds near El Dorado
El Dorado sits in the piney woods of south Arkansas, within easy reach of state parks in both Arkansas and north Louisiana. RV travelers typically base themselves at a private park in town, such as Gator Den RV Park, and use it as a launching point for day trips to nearby lakes and forests.
The closest state park camping is at Moro Bay State Park, which sits at the confluence of Moro Bay, Raymond Lake, and the Ouachita River in Bradley County. It offers 23 Class AAA campsites with water, 50-amp electric, and sewer hookups on concrete pads designed for larger RVs and trailers. The park is roughly a 30-minute drive northeast of El Dorado on Highway 15.
Across the Louisiana line, Lake D Arbonne State Park and the adjacent private resort D'Arbonne Pointe both put campers on the water of a large recreational lake. Closer to Magnolia, Logoly State Park offers a smaller, tent-focused experience in a protected natural area.
Things to do near El Dorado
Fishing and boating drive most trips to this region. Fishing is popular year-round where Moro Bay and Raymond Lake join the Ouachita River, and the park's marina offers boat and slip rentals along with fuel and a camp store. Across the state line, Lake D Arbonne State Park sits on a 15,250-acre lake, with fishing, water skiing, swimming, and boating among the top activities.
On land, Lake D Arbonne State Park adds tennis courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, hiking trails, kayak rentals, and a seasonal swimming pool, plus multiple fishing piers. Logoly is Arkansas' first environmental education state park, and most of its acreage is a State Natural Area featuring unique plant species and mineral springs, giving families a low-key hiking and interpretive stop.

South Arkansas has a long camping season. Arkansas State Parks lists peak season as March through November, with off-peak running December through February, and Moro Bay stays open year-round with the bathhouse operating all year. Lake D Arbonne State Park is likewise open 365 days a year.
Spring and fall bring the most comfortable weather for RV travel, with mild days and cooler nights. Summers are hot and humid, but shaded, water-adjacent sites at Moro Bay and Lake D Arbonne stay usable, and the seasonal pool at Lake D Arbonne draws families through the warmer months.
Winter is the quietest stretch, though the region stays mild enough for comfortable camping between cold fronts. Hunting seasons draw some traffic to Moro Bay, where the park serves as a base for outings on nearby permitted areas. Weekends still fill at Lake D Arbonne, so book ahead even in shoulder months.
How to book campgrounds near El Dorado
Arkansas state parks use a single reservation system. Reservations for Moro Bay and other Arkansas parks are available at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com or by calling 888-287-2757. Check-in and check-out are both at 3:00 p.m., and a non-refundable deposit equal to the first night's rate plus tax is required, with cancellations forfeiting the deposit. Campsites are limited to fourteen rental nights within a thirty-day period.
Louisiana state parks use a separate system at reservations.gooutdoorslouisiana.com, where Lake D Arbonne bookings are made by selecting arrival and departure dates and equipment type. Private parks like Gator Den RV Park and D'Arbonne Pointe are booked directly with the operator; lakefront sites at D'Arbonne Pointe fill first on holiday weekends, so reserve early.
What to expect
Sites at Moro Bay are built for larger rigs. Internal roads provide easy navigation for RVs up to 45 feet, and each site includes a concrete pad, tent area, picnic table, fire ring, and lantern post. Sites are level with many lake views, though screening between neighbors is minimal and street lighting illuminates most sites at night.
Lake D Arbonne is a larger operation, with improved campsites offering water and electric hookups, plus cabins, lodges, and a group camp for larger parties. A central bathhouse serves the camping area and an on-park dump station is available. Expect a quieter experience mid-week and busier weekends.
Logoly State Park is different in character: facilities include group tent sites with no hookups, a bathhouse with hot showers, a pavilion, picnic sites, playground, trails, and a visitor center, so it suits tent campers rather than RV travelers.

You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right through the platform during booking, so there's nothing extra to print or mail. Visiting from abroad? forecast.weather.gov/zipcity.php?inputstring=El+Dorado%2CARI'm a first-time RV renter. Is El Dorado a good place to start?
El Dorado is a fantastic spot for first time renting an RV. Traffic is light, roads are flat, and most highways out of town (US-167, US-82, AR-7) are wide two- and four-lane routes with easy shoulders, so you won't be navigating tight mountain switchbacks or big-city traffic on day one. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the slide-outs, leveling, generator, propane, and dump procedures before you leave. Many hosts will even deliver and set up the rig at your campground so you skip the driving altogether. Pro tip: choose a Class C or travel trailer under 25 feet for an easy first South Arkansas adventure.
arkansas.com/What happens if my RV breaks down during my El Dorado trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Highway 82 near Smackover or a dead battery at Moro Bay State Park is just a phone call away from getting handled. The roadside team coordinates tows, jump-starts, lockouts, tire changes, and fuel delivery anywhere in the El Dorado region. Your host is usually local and reachable by RVezy messaging for quick questions about quirky systems, and the RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip. Save the roadside number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my El Dorado RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome and easy from El Dorado, which sits about 25 miles from the Louisiana state line. Popular RV road trips from El Dorado include Hot Springs and Little Rock (Arkansas), Shreveport and Cajun country (Louisiana), Vicksburg (Mississippi), and Texarkana on the Texas border. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible on some rentals, but you must message the host in advance to confirm because written host approval is required. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage does not extend across the southern border. Stick to the US and approved routes and you are set.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an El Dorado RV trip?
Arkansas has some of the cheapest fuel in the country, which is great news for your El Dorado RV trip budget. Regular gas in El Dorado typically runs below the national average, and diesel is widely available at Pilot, Love's, and local stations along US-167 and US-82. Realistic fuel economy: Class C motorhomes get 8 to 10 mpg, Class A motorhomes 6 to 9 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg when towing). For a 300-mile loop from El Dorado to Hot Springs and back, plan on roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Fill up before leaving town since rural South Arkansas stations sometimes close early.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near El Dorado?
Campground availability around El Dorado is far less crowded than national park hotspots, but it pays to plan ahead. For Moro Bay State Park, reserve through the official Arkansas State Parks reservation system at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com 2 to 3 months in advance for spring and fall weekends, and 6 months out if your trip falls over MusicFest El Dorado in early October. Private parks like Shamrock RV Park often have same-week availability midweek. Pro tip: weekday arrivals get the best site selection at Moro Bay, especially the riverside Class AAA full-hookup sites overlooking the water.
reserve.arkansasstateparks.com/moro-bay/camping/What are the local driving conditions like around El Dorado?
Driving an RV around El Dorado is refreshingly mellow. The terrain is gently rolling pine forest with no mountain passes or steep grades, and the main routes (US-167, US-82, US-63, AR-7) are well-maintained two- and four-lane highways with generous shoulders. Watch for two things: sudden spring and summer thunderstorms that can drop heavy rain and gusty winds (pull over and wait it out), and white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk on rural stretches between Smackover and Camden. Downtown El Dorado has a few low railroad bridges, so stick to designated truck routes if you are driving anything over 11 feet tall. Otherwise, it is an easy, scenic drive.

Most motorhome rentals include a queen or king bed, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, an interior bathroom with toilet and shower, roof-mounted air conditioning (a must in South Arkansas summers), a furnace for cool nights, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many also come with a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and an onboard generator for boondocking. Travel trailers offer the same kitchen and bath setup minus the drive cab. arkansas.com/What popular add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and dropoff work?
Hosts in El Dorado make customizing your trip simple. Common add-ons you'll see at booking include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and outdoor tables, portable grills, generators, bike racks, kayak racks, Starlink or Wi-Fi hotspots, and pet packages. Mileage policies vary by host (typical free allowance is 100 to 150 miles per day, with unlimited mileage available on many listings), and most hosts charge a flat overage fee per mile beyond that. Pickup and dropoff usually happen at the host's home in or near El Dorado, with a 45-minute walkthrough at handover. Delivery to your campground is widely offered and a popular alternative to driving the rig yourself.
arkansas.com/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure. You pay your full booking total (rental cost, host fees, RVezy service fee, and your selected protection plan) by credit card directly through the platform, never in cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is also placed as a hold on your card before pickup; the amount is shown on the listing and varies by RV value. As long as the RV comes back in the same condition without policy violations, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick walkaround video at pickup and dropoff so any questions are easy to resolve.
