Campgrounds and RV parks near Foreman, AR

Millwood Lake anchors most trip itineraries. A series of boat lanes meanders through submerged timber, marshes, and oxbow cutoffs making Millwood Lake an outstanding fishing destination, and the 29,260-acre lake abounds in largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. During spring and fall, Millwood offers excellent crappie fishing, and summer brings opportunity to land catfish and bream; just beyond the park is the Little River, where striped bass and spoon-billed catfish are possible when spillway gates are open. Birding is a second big draw. Millwood is an Audubon-designated Important Bird Area with sightings of over 300 of the state's 400 species on record. Families can also rent fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks from the park marina, ride the bike trail, or drive to Texarkana for supplies, restaurants, and museums.

Southwest Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. The area sees hot summers and cool winters, receives high annual precipitation spread fairly evenly through the year, and while summers are generally warm, heavy downpours and afternoon thunderstorms can occur during the warmer months. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel. Daytime temperatures are mild, foliage is active, and fishing peaks, though spring storms can be intense so travelers should watch forecasts closely. Summer is hot and humid, with heat indices frequently pushing shade and hookup power to the top of the priority list. Winter is the quiet season. Millwood State Park runs a peak season from March through November and shifts to reduced off-peak hours from December through February. The campground and restrooms remain open year-round, while the marina operates March through October. Expect chilly nights and occasional cold rain.

Expect a rural, forested landscape of pine and hardwood, with lake views at Millwood-adjacent parks and quieter wooded sites farther inland. Cell coverage is workable in town but can thin out on the water and along back roads, so download maps before leaving Texarkana. At Millwood State Park, RV sites include a mix of hookup classes. The full hookup side has no shade, while the water and electric side offers lots of shade. There is exactly one pull-through site, with the remaining spots along a one-way loop that some visitors find tight for larger rigs. Bring insect repellent, a rain plan, and a fishing license from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission if planning to cast a line. Lumber trucks contribute road noise, so lakeside sites are quieter than road-adjacent ones.
