Campgrounds and RV parks near Fouke, AR

Fouke's signature stop is the Monster Mart, tied to the Fouke Monster legend and the 1972 cult film The Legend of Boggy Creek. Displays include footprint casts, memorabilia, and stills from the original film. It doubles as a convenience store and photo-op, which makes it an easy family pull-off. Outdoor time centers on Millwood Lake. The state park has 45 campsites with water and electric hookups, a marina with rental boats and bait, plus hiking trails and picnic areas, and sits on the 29,260-acre reservoir where fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish is a main draw. Millwood is a designated Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society, and of 400-plus birds on the state list, over 300 have been recorded here. In Texarkana proper, families can add the Perot Theatre, Ace of Clubs House, and the Discovery Place children's museum to round out a rainy-day plan.

Southwest Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate. Texarkana experiences hot, muggy summers and short, cool winters, with high annual precipitation spread fairly evenly through the year. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel, with milder days, cooler nights, and lower humidity than midsummer. Spring brings the heaviest rain and severe-weather risk. May is typically the wettest month, averaging around 143 mm of rainfall across about 11 rainy days. Spring also lines up with peak crappie fishing on Millwood and the Boggy Creek Monster Festival weekend in Fouke, which draws crowds. Summer runs hot and sticky, with average daytime highs near 33°C in July and August and overnight lows in the low 20s°C. Winter is cool rather than cold, with average highs around 13°C and lows near 2°C in January. Fall brings cooler weather, migratory birds at Millwood, and shoulder-season availability at RV parks.

The landscape around Fouke is flat to gently rolling pine and hardwood bottomland, cut by creeks and swampy backwaters. Roads into Fouke off US 71 are paved and RV-friendly. The town itself is small, with fuel and a handful of stores, so most resupply happens in Texarkana. Expect insects near water, especially in warm months. Alligators are present in the region around Millwood Lake, so keep pets leashed and kids close near marshy shorelines and trail edges. Cell service is generally reliable along US 71 and in the Texarkana metro, and spottier on backroads and in more remote camping loops. Bring bug spray, a fishing license if planning to cast, and rain gear year-round given the region's frequent thunderstorms.
