Campgrounds and RV parks near Gibson, AR

Pinnacle Mountain State Park lies a short drive west and offers a network of hiking and mountain-bike trails, plus paddling on the Big and Little Maumelle Rivers. The park is day-use only, so RV travelers stage from campgrounds nearby and drive in for hikes such as the West Summit and East Summit trails. Along the Arkansas River, boat ramps and the Arkansas River Trail connect Little Rock and North Little Rock for cycling and running. Downtown attractions include the Clinton Presidential Center and the Argenta Historic District in North Little Rock. Anglers on the river catch crappie, bream, hybrid bass, and white bass, and wintering eagles migrating from Canada and the Great Lakes region can be seen in large numbers along the Arkansas River.

Central Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cool, changeable winters. Spring, from March through May, is a wet season with heavy rainfall a distinct possibility, and it is also the most active severe-weather season, when torrential rainfall, damaging thunderstorm winds, hail, and tornadoes are all significant threats. Wildflowers and mild temperatures make it popular for camping, but travelers should monitor forecasts closely and choose sites with good drainage. Summer runs hot and humid, with highs frequently in the 90s Fahrenheit from June through August and afternoon thunderstorms common. Shaded riverfront sites along the Arkansas River are in high demand and book up quickly. Fall is generally the most comfortable stretch, with lower humidity and stable weather through October, though a secondary severe weather season peaks in November. Winter is mild overall but subject to occasional cold snaps and rare snow, sleet, and freezing rain events when cold Canadian air at ground level is overrun by warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico; most campgrounds in the area stay open year-round.

Expect a mix of interstate-adjacent private parks and river-oriented public campgrounds. The Little Rock North/Jct I-40 KOA Journey sits directly off I-40 with full hookups and pull-through sites for larger rigs, though sites are close together and traffic noise from the highway carries at night. Concrete pads are common at more developed sites. Corps of Engineers sites along the Arkansas River offer 30 and 50-amp electric service plus water connections at each site, along with a dock, hot showers, a boat ramp and playground, and mature shade in some loops. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the metro area, but tree cover can limit satellite reception at some wooded sites. Come prepared for heat and humidity in summer, biting insects near the river, and geese that inhabit the grounds year-round.
