Camping near Glenwood, Arkansas
Glenwood sits along the Caddo River in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains in southwest Arkansas, roughly halfway between Hot Springs and the Crater of Diamonds. The area draws RV travelers for float trips on the Caddo, fishing on Lake Greeson, and access to the Ouachita National Forest.
Campground options range from private riverside operations like River Run Resort, Caddo River Camping and Canoe Rental, and Arrowhead Cabin Canoe to public sites at Daisy State Park on Lake Greeson. Brushy Creek Campground, on the western side of nearby DeGray Lake, adds a lakefront alternative within reasonable driving distance.
Most properties in the immediate corridor are set up for canoe, kayak, and tube floats, with shuttle service, riverfront tent sites, and a mix of hookup and primitive RV spots. State park sites tend to have more consistent amenities, with a mix of Class A hookup, Class B, and tent sites suitable for larger rigs.
Things to do around Glenwood
Floating the Caddo River is the signature activity. Outfitters like Caddo River Camping and Canoe Rental and Arrowhead Cabin Canoe run canoe, kayak, raft, and tube trips on a gentle pool-and-drop river with occasional light rapids, suitable for novice paddlers and families.
Lake Greeson, formed by the Little Missouri River, supports boating, paddling, and fishing for stripers, black bass, crappie, bream, catfish, northern pike, and walleye. Above and below the lake, the Little Missouri is stocked with rainbow trout for winter and spring trout fishing.
Other nearby draws include the Bear Creek Cycle Trail, hiking and wildlife watching in the Ouachita National Forest, and Crater of Diamonds State Park at Murfreesboro, where visitors can dig for and keep any diamonds they find.

When to visit Glenwood

March - May
70° / 51°F 110 mmWettest season; strong Caddo flows and thunderstorm risk.
- summer
June - August
90° / 69°F 85 mmHot and humid; peak float season, book weekends early.
- fall
September - November
72° / 52°F 80 mmMild days, cool nights; thinner crowds through October.
- winter
December - February
50° / 35°F 75 mmCool and quiet; trout fishing and lake wildlife watching.
Late spring through early fall is the busiest window. Water levels on the Caddo River generally support float trips from spring into summer, and Glenwood outfitters run their heaviest shuttle schedules from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weekends in June and July fill first at riverside campgrounds.
Spring brings the wettest weather and the strongest river flows, with May typically the rainiest month, averaging about 16 rainfall days and close to 4.75 inches of precipitation. Thunderstorms and occasional flash flooding can force short-notice trip changes, so RV travelers should watch USGS gauges and outfitter updates before committing to a paddle day.
Fall offers cooler temperatures, lower humidity, thinner crowds, and reliable camping weather through October. Winter is quiet: the Daisy State Park campground and designated restrooms stay open all year, and the visitor center shifts to reduced weekend hours from December through February. Trout fishing on the Little Missouri and wildlife watching on Lake Greeson are cold-season draws.

How to book campsites
Daisy State Park takes reservations through the Arkansas State Parks system at reserve.arkansasstateparks.com or by calling the park office. The campground has three yurts and 100 sites split into 26 Class A, 56 Class B, and 18 tent sites. Peak summer weekends should be booked well in advance.
Corps of Engineers sites around Lake Greeson and DeGray Lake are booked through Recreation.gov, typically several months ahead for peak dates. Brushy Creek Campground, leased from the Corps and operated privately, handles its own reservations directly.
Private outfitters in Glenwood, including River Run Resort, Caddo River Camping and Canoe Rental, and Arrowhead Cabin Canoe, book through their own websites or by phone. Combined float-and-camp packages are common; confirm hookup availability when booking an RV site.
What to expect in Glenwood
Glenwood is a small Ouachita foothills town. Sites are wooded and often hilly, and some Daisy State Park loops have grades and steep approaches; loop E generally accommodates larger RVs, while shorter rigs have an easier time in the A and B loops. Confirm site length and access when reserving.
Private riverside campgrounds are set up around float-trip logistics. Expect shuttle traffic, road noise from nearby highways, and busier common areas during peak summer weekends. Bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets are standard at the developed properties; primitive sites without hookups are also available.
Cell service is inconsistent in the surrounding forest and river canyons. Pets are generally welcome on leash at campgrounds and on park trails, though cabin and yurt pet policies vary. Bring bug spray in summer and check burn bans before lighting a campfire.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Glenwood, AR
What does an RV rental in Glenwood actually cost, and how can I save money?
An RV rental in Glenwood is one of the more affordable ways to enjoy the Ouachita Mountains, with most listings ranging from about $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers and $175 to $325 per night for Class C motorhomes. Prices climb during peak Caddo River floating season (June through August) and dip in spring and fall. To find a cheap RV rental in Glenwood, book midweek, look for hosts offering weekly discounts, and consider a travel trailer if you already have a tow vehicle. Shoulder season weekends in late April or October give you crisp mornings, fall color along Highway 8, and noticeably lower nightly rates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Glenwood%2C%20ArkansasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Glenwood, Arkansas?
You're in luck: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Glenwood, Arkansas. There's no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement required in the state, even for larger Class A motorhomes. Every guest on RVezy must be at least 25 years old, and we verify your ID through the platform during booking so there are no surprises at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country license. Most first-time renters are surprised how quickly they go from booking to rolling toward the Caddo River.
dfa.arkansas.gov/driver-services/Is my trip protected if something goes wrong?
Peace of mind is built into every RVezy booking. A renter protection plan is included with your RV rental in Glenwood, along with 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered for the unexpected like flat tires, lockouts, or minor mishaps on the way to Lake Greeson. During checkout, you choose from multiple protection plan tiers, letting you decide how much coverage feels right for your trip. The plan covers damage to the vehicle within the terms of the chosen tier, giving renters real financial protection so you can focus on floating the Caddo instead of worrying about what-ifs.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Glenwood RV booking?
Plans change, and RVezy gets that. Every booking is covered by an RVezy cancellation policy (not set by individual hosts), which includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates with confidence. The exact refund depends on how far out you cancel from your trip start date. You will not see different policies on different listings because cancellations are handled at the platform level. If you ever need help sorting out a change, RVezy customer support is reachable before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Glenwood RV trip?
Yes, Glenwood is wonderfully dog-friendly, and finding a pet-friendly RV rental in Glenwood is easy. Just use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching on RVezy to see hosts who welcome four-legged guests. Lake Greeson Corps of Engineers parks and the surrounding Ouachita National Forest also allow leashed dogs on most trails. Pack a tie-out, collapsible water bowl, and a towel: the Caddo River gravel bars are paw-friendly, but your RV carpet will thank you. Confirm any host-specific pet policies and fees in the listing before booking.
fs.usda.gov/ouachitaCan the RV be delivered to my campsite instead of me driving it?
Yes, and it is one of the most popular options for a first time renting an RV. Many Glenwood-area hosts offer RV delivery to local campgrounds around Lake Greeson, the Caddo River, and private properties along Highway 70. They will tow or drive the RV in, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to find hosts who offer this service. Delivery fees vary by distance but are typically a flat rate within a set radius of Glenwood, which is a great value if you would rather skip towing altogether.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Glenwood%2C%20ArkansasHow far can I drive, and what about mileage limits?
Most Glenwood hosts include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 miles per day), and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage if you are planning a longer loop. Since Glenwood sits central to so many Arkansas adventures, you rarely need to go far: Hot Springs National Park is about 35 miles northeast, Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro is roughly 30 miles southwest, and DeGray Lake is just south. You can check each listing mileage policy before booking and message the host if you are planning a bigger Glenwood RV trip out to Little Rock (about 90 miles) or beyond.
nps.gov/hosp/index.htmWhere should I stay during my Glenwood RV trip?
You've got fantastic options for RV camping in Glenwood. Caddo River Camping & Canoe Rental on Highway 8 East offers tent and RV sites right on the river with shuttles included. Self Creek Campground on Lake Greeson (about 12 miles west) is a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park with full hookups and lake views. Daisy State Park, also on Lake Greeson, has 118 campsites with water and electric. For a more rustic feel, Charlton Recreation Area in the Ouachita National Forest sits about 25 miles north along Highway 7. Pro tip: Corps of Engineers and state park sites book on Recreation.gov and ReserveAmerica respectively — snag summer weekends 4 to 6 months ahead.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/daisy-state-parkWhen is the best time to visit Glenwood in an RV?
Glenwood shines from late March through early November, and each season has its charm. Spring (March to May) brings dogwoods, 60s to 70s°F days, and prime smallmouth bass fishing on the Caddo. Summer (June to August) is float season, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s°F — perfect for tubing but book early. Fall (September to October) is the local insider favorite: warm days, cool nights in the 50s, and stunning Ouachita foliage along Scenic Byway 7. Winters are mild (highs around 50°F) and the lower Caddo can be floated year-round, so even a January RV camping Glenwood weekend works for hardy travelers.
weather.gov/lzk/I have never rented an RV before. Will I actually be okay?
You will be more than okay: Glenwood is genuinely one of the best places for a first time renting an RV. The roads are quiet two-lanes (Highway 70 and Highway 8), distances are short, and campgrounds are laid-back and welcoming. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, water, slide-outs, dump procedures, and the generator. You can message the host beforehand with any question, no matter how small. If anything stumps you mid-trip, 24/7 roadside assistance and RVezy customer support are one call away. Arrive at pickup with 45 minutes of buffer so you can take notes and shoot a quick video of the walkthrough.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I break down or have an issue on the road?
Take a breath: you are covered. Every RV rental in Glenwood, Arkansas booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. That covers flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing if needed, whether you are parked at DeGray Lake State Park or pulled off on Scenic Byway 7. You can also reach RVezy support anytime, and your host is usually just a text away for quick questions about quirks of their specific RV. Save the roadside number in your phone before you leave Glenwood, and you will be back on the road (and back to floating the Caddo) in no time.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips I can take from Glenwood?
Glenwood is a launchpad for some of Arkansas best drives. A classic RV road trip from Glenwood heads about 35 miles northeast to Hot Springs National Park for bathhouse history and mountain hikes. Drive about 30 miles southwest to Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, the only public diamond mine where you keep what you find. Head north on Scenic Byway 7 toward Mount Magazine, one of Arkansas highest points. Or loop about 90 miles northeast to Little Rock for city sights. Cross-border travel into Oklahoma or Texas is allowed on most rentals (confirm with your host), but travel into Mexico is not covered by RVezy protection, so keep your trip within the U.S.
nps.gov/hosp/planyourvisit/directions.htmHow much will fuel cost on a Glenwood RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest cost after the rental itself, but it's very manageable here. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class C motorhome, 12 to 18 MPG for a campervan rental in Glenwood, and 14 to 20 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. Arkansas gas prices typically run 20 to 40 cents below the national average, with stations along Highway 70 in Glenwood and Caddo Valley being your most convenient stops. For a 3-night trip staying within 50 miles of town, most renters spend $80 to $150 on fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Glenwood or Hot Springs before heading deep into the Ouachita National Forest, where stations get sparse.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Glenwood?
For peak season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), aim to book campgrounds 4 to 6 months ahead, especially for waterfront sites. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks around Lake Greeson and DeGray Lake reserve through Recreation.gov, while Arkansas state parks like Daisy and DeGray Lake Resort use the Arkansas State Parks reservation system. Private spots like Caddo River Camping & Canoe Rental book directly by phone. Shoulder season (April, May, September, October) often has same-week availability. Pro tip: if summer sites are full, look at Charlton Recreation Area in the Ouachita National Forest — first-come, first-served sites occasionally open up midweek and offer beautiful creek-side camping.
recreation.gov/What's it like to drive an RV around Glenwood?
Driving around Glenwood is genuinely relaxing compared to most RV destinations. Highway 70 runs straight through town with wide lanes, gentle grades, and easy pull-offs. Highway 8 toward Caddo Gap gets winding and hilly as you climb into the Ouachitas, so take it slow in larger Class A or Class C rigs. Scenic Byway 7 north of Hot Springs is beautiful but steep in spots — downshift on descents and use engine braking. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, and keep an eye on weather radar in spring, when thunderstorms can roll through quickly. Local insider tip: the Caddo Valley exit on Interstate 30 has the best big-rig-friendly fuel stops if you're heading in from Little Rock.
ardot.gov/travel-information/What amenities do Glenwood campgrounds offer?
Most campgrounds near Glenwood are well-equipped for RVers. Self Creek and Kirby Landing on Lake Greeson (operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) offer water and electric hookups, dump stations, hot showers, and lake access. Daisy State Park has 118 sites with water and 30/50-amp electric. Caddo River Camping & Canoe Rental provides RV sites with hookups right on the river plus on-site shuttles for floats. The closest public dump stations are at Self Creek and Daisy State Park, and you can fill fresh water at any hookup site. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a 30-amp-to-50-amp adapter so you're ready for any site configuration.
swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Lakes/Lake-Greeson/What's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Glenwood?
You'll be impressed — even budget RVs come well-equipped. A typical motorhome rental in Glenwood includes sleeping for 4 to 8 (queen bed, bunks, convertible dinette), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone on the road. Many rigs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and an onboard generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi varies — some hosts include a mobile hotspot, while cell service is reliable in Glenwood but spotty deep in the Ouachita National Forest. Check each listing's amenities tab to match the RV to your trip style.
fs.usda.gov/ouachitaWhat add-ons and pickup details should I know about?
Glenwood hosts offer some genuinely useful add-ons. Popular extras include camp chairs and tables ($10 to $25 per trip), bedding and linen packages ($30 to $75), generator hours for off-grid camping, kayak or tube rentals through partner outfitters, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting point along Highway 70, with delivery available for an additional fee (typical range $2 to $4 per mile beyond a free radius). Mileage policies vary, with most hosts including 100 to 150 free miles per day and charging $0.30 to $0.50 per mile over that. Pro tip: ask about a generator add-on if you're heading to Charlton Recreation Area or other non-electric sites in the Ouachita National Forest.
fs.usda.gov/recarea/ouachita/recarea/?recid=10864How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and secure on RVezy. You pay the rental total (nightly rate, fees, taxes, and any add-ons) through the platform when you book, with no cash or off-platform transfers needed. A refundable security deposit is held on your card before pickup, with the amount set by each host (commonly several hundred to a few thousand dollars for a Glenwood RV rental). As long as the RV comes back in the same condition with the tanks handled per the listing, the hold is released after your trip. Do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and dropoff. It takes two minutes and clears up any questions about pre-existing wear, keeping your deposit return smooth.
