Campgrounds and RV parks near Greenwood, AR

Hiking and scenic driving dominate the outdoor options. Devil's Den State Park sits in the Lee Creek Valley in the Boston Mountains and offers the 15-mile Butterfield Hiking Trail, roughly 64 miles of multi-use trails, and the park's signature sandstone crevices. Lake Fort Smith State Park has a marina with rental boats, a swimming pool, and trailheads into the Boston Mountains. On the water, the Arkansas River corridor provides fishing for bass, crappie, and catfish, with boat ramps at multiple Corps of Engineers parks. Robert S. Kerr Reservoir just across the Oklahoma line adds paddling and shoreline access. In town, families can visit the Fort Smith National Historic Site, and day trips reach Mount Magazine State Park, the highest point in Arkansas, about 70 miles east. Bike trails, playgrounds, and pavilions at the state parks make the area workable for kids.

Spring and fall are the strongest RV seasons around Greenwood. March through May brings mild days and wildflowers, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year, with May typically the rainiest month averaging more than five inches of rain. Severe weather, including hail and occasional tornadoes, peaks in April and May, so travelers should monitor forecasts and pick sites with sturdy hookups and awnings that can be stowed. Summer is hot and muggy. July highs at Fort Smith average in the mid-90s Fahrenheit with warm overnight lows, and Fort Smith records an average of nearly 23 days per year at or above 90 degrees in July alone. Sites with shade, strong electric hookups for air conditioning, and water access get booked well ahead of holiday weekends. Fall cools quickly from September into November and delivers the year's most reliable camping weather. Winters are short but can turn cold and wet, with light snow possible from December through March. Some state park amenities such as pools and seasonal cafes close outside summer, though the campgrounds at Devil's Den and Lake Fort Smith stay open year-round.

Most private RV parks in the Greenwood area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, level pads, and big-rig access. Amenities vary; expect basic laundry and showers at smaller parks and more resort-style features, including golf, at Eagle Crest Golf & RV Park. State park sites at Devil's Den and Lake Fort Smith include a mix of Class AAA sites with full hookups, water-and-electric sites, and no-hookup tent sites, and cabins are also available. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. until sunrise in Arkansas state parks, and camping is limited to one 14-day stay within a 30-day period. Cell service is reliable close to Greenwood and Fort Smith but weakens in the Boston Mountains around Devil's Den, where the full-hookup loop offers Wi-Fi. Bring bug spray, expect humidity in summer, and plan for occasional severe weather in spring.
