Spring and fall are the prime windows for RV travel around Gurdon. From March through May, daytime highs climb from the mid-60s into the low 80s, and thunderstorms are common. Winter and spring are the wettest seasons in Arkansas, so check severe-weather forecasts before heading out during spring trips. Summer is hot and humid. July is the hottest month, with an average high near 94°F and a low near 72°F, and lakes stay busy on weekends and holidays. Arkansas State Parks campgrounds fill early for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, so book well in advance for those weekends. Fall brings the most comfortable camping, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong foliage in the oak-hickory-pine mix through late October and November. Winter is short and damp, with highs in the low 50s and occasional freezes. DeGray Lake Resort State Park is open year-round and hosts winter eagle-watch tours, while Brushy Creek Campground is open seasonally from the first Saturday in March to the last weekend of October, and some Corps campground bathhouses reduce services in winter.

State park hookups vary. DeGray Lake Resort State Park has 113 campsites which include 25 Class AAA sites with tables, grills, water, 50-amp electricity, and sewer, 82 Class B sites with tables, grills, water, and 30-amp electricity, and 6 walk-in sites, plus three yurts. White Oak Lake State Park has 45 campsites, four Class A, 37 Class B, and four tent sites, with a dump station on site but no sewer at the pads. Corps campgrounds on DeGray generally offer reservable electric sites, potable water, bathhouses with hot showers, and dump stations, though full hookups are less common than at the resort park. Cell coverage is variable in the pine woods, big-rig access is generally good on main loops but tighter on some back-in sites, pets are allowed on leash across the listed campgrounds, and firewood should be bought locally to protect forests from tree-killing pests.
