Campgrounds near Helena-West Helena, Arkansas
Helena-West Helena sits on the Mississippi River in eastern Arkansas, at the edge of Crowley's Ridge and the Arkansas Delta. RV travelers use the town as a base for exploring the St. Francis National Forest, the Great River Road National Scenic Byway, and the blues-history sites along Cherry Street. The surrounding landscape is flat river bottom broken by the wooded uplift of the ridge, which shapes where campgrounds are located.
Options near town split into two categories. West of the river, Mississippi River State Park operates in partnership with the St. Francis National Forest and manages both Lone Pine - Mississippi River State Park and Storm Creek Lake Recreational Area. Across the Mississippi in Tunica County, Mississippi, several casino resorts operate large RV parks, including Isle Of Capri Casino RV Park, Hollywood Casino Hotel and RV Park, and Sams Town Gambling Hall RV Park.
This mix lets renters choose between quiet lakeside sites in hardwood forest and full-service pull-throughs with paved pads, laundry, and shuttle service to gaming floors.
Things to do in Helena-West Helena
Mississippi River State Park provides access to the St. Francis National Forest where the Mississippi River, Crowley's Ridge, and the Arkansas Delta converge, with lakes, hardwood forests, and backwaters. Visitors can camp, fish, paddle, hike, view wildlife, and access the St. Francis WMA for hunting. Bear Creek Lake and Storm Creek Lake are the main paddling and fishing waters, with largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish among the sportfish. In town, the Delta Cultural Center on Cherry Street covers blues, gospel, and Civil War history, and the King Biscuit Blues Festival draws large crowds each October. Drivers can follow the Great River Road along the levee for river overlooks. Across the bridge in Tunica, the casino resorts add golf courses, live entertainment, and buffet dining within a short drive of the RV parks.

Spring and fall are the strongest seasons for RV travel in the Helena area. March through May brings mild temperatures and wildflower bloom on Crowley's Ridge, though thunderstorms and river flooding can close low-lying access roads in the St. Francis National Forest. October delivers the year's most reliable weather and lines up with the King Biscuit Blues Festival, when in-town parking and nearby sites fill quickly.
Summer is hot and humid, with heat indices often above 100 F and heavy mosquito pressure in bottomland forest. Shaded lakeside sites stay usable, but the full-hookup sites at Storm Creek Lake are more comfortable for running air conditioning. Storm Creek Lake Recreational Area operates seasonally, generally April through Labor Day.
Winter is mild by national standards but wet. Casino RV parks across the river stay open year-round, while Lone Pine's primitive loop sees reduced traffic and occasional closures after heavy rain. Hunting seasons in the St. Francis WMA run through winter, so campers should check WMA schedules before arriving.
Booking and how to reserve
Arkansas State Parks handles reservations for Mississippi River State Park through its online system and by phone. Check-in is 3:00 p.m. and check-out is 3:00 p.m., a non-refundable reservation deposit equal to the first night plus tax is required, and cancellations forfeit the deposit. Stays are limited to fourteen rental nights within a thirty-day period, with extensions requiring approval from the park superintendent.
Lone Pine sites are first-come, first-served, with 14 primitive sites (18-31) that have no water or electric hookups. Storm Creek Lake, following a full renovation, now offers reservable full-hookup sites, walk-in tent sites, and camper cabins through Arkansas State Parks, and operates seasonally.
The casino RV parks in Tunica take direct reservations through each resort's website or phone line and typically require a credit card at booking.
What to expect
Expect a clear split between primitive public land and full-service developed parks. Lone Pine's 14 primitive sites include a picnic table, tent pad, ground grill, and stand grill, with vault toilets and no showers. Storm Creek Lake was rebuilt in the early 2020s and now offers 11 full-hookup sites, three walk-in tent sites, five camper cabins, and a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Renters in larger Class A or Class C rigs should confirm site length and turning clearance before arriving, since interior forest roads are narrow.
The Tunica casino RV parks provide full hookups, paved pads, laundry, pools, and shuttle service to the gaming floors. Sites are close together and the setting is open rather than wooded. Cell coverage is reliable in Helena-West Helena and Tunica but weakens inside the St. Francis National Forest.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Helena-West%20Helena%2C%20ArkansasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Helena-West Helena?
Good news: a standard driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Helena-West Helena. Arkansas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, motorhomes, or travel trailers operated for non-commercial use. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older and must verify their ID through the platform during checkout. Visiting from overseas for the King Biscuit Blues Festival? Refund eligibility after that depends on how far out you are from your trip start date, and RVezy support also considers exceptional circumstances like severe Delta weather or natural disasters. Cancellation terms aren't displayed inside individual listings because the policy is standardized across the platform. Pro tip: if a tornado watch or Mississippi River flooding affects your trip, contact RVezy support right away so they can document the situation.

Yes, RV delivery in Helena-West Helena is one of the easiest ways to start your trip stress-free. This is a game-changer if it's your first time renting an RV or you don't want to tow on Highway 49. Filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message the host with your address. Pro tip: filter for unlimited-mileage listings if you're planning a multi-state loop through the Delta and Ozarks.

Storm Creek Lake Recreation Area in the St. Francis National Forest has shaded lakeside sites (40-foot RV max). Looking for something rustic? Delta Heritage Trail State Park offers basic sites near the rail-trail. Pro tip: book Mississippi River State Park sites through ReserveAmerica up to six months ahead during King Biscuit Blues Festival week in October.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/mississippi-river-state-parkWhen is the best time to visit Helena-West Helena in an RV?
Spring and fall are pure magic here. Helena-West Helena has a humid subtropical climate, so April, May, and October deliver the sweet spot of 70-85°F days, low humidity, and blooming dogwoods or fall color across Crowley's Ridge. Summer (June through August) climbs into the low 90s with serious humidity, so plan for a rental with a strong air conditioner. Winters are mild, with January lows around the mid-30s, making December through February a quiet, cheap RV rental season. The marquee event is the King Biscuit Blues Festival in early October, when downtown Helena fills with live blues, smoked ribs, and Delta culture, book your RV months in advance.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. Will I really be okay driving around Helena-West Helena?
You'll do great, and you won't be left to figure it out alone. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, propane, tanks, leveling, and hookups, plus their cell number for the trip. Helena-West Helena is a first-timer's dream training ground: flat Delta terrain, light traffic on Highway 49 and Highway 1, and wide-open country roads instead of mountain switchbacks. If city driving in Memphis sounds scary, just request delivery so the host parks the RV for you. Pro tip: message your host before booking with any question, that's exactly what the chat feature is built for.
dot.arkansas.gov/What if I break down or have a problem during my Helena-West Helena RV trip?
You're covered around the clock. Every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 49, a dead battery at Storm Creek Lake, or a tow off a soft levee road are all one phone call away. You also have direct messaging with your host, who knows the RV best and can troubleshoot quirks like how the generator likes to be primed. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you pull out of the driveway for easy peace of mind.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Helena-West Helena RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes to interstate adventures. An RV road trip from Helena-West Helena easily crosses into Mississippi (Clarksdale and the Blues Trail are just 35 miles away), Tennessee (Memphis and Graceland are 75 miles north), Missouri's Bootheel, or Louisiana, and your RVezy protection covers travel throughout the United States. Many hosts are happy to greenlight multi-state loops, just message them before booking so they know your route. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and roadside coverage end at the U.S. border. Pro tip: a classic 5-day Delta loop hits Helena to Clarksdale to Vicksburg to Natchez and back, all under 500 miles total.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Helena-West Helena RV rental?
Budgeting fuel is easier than you'd think on flat Delta highways. Expect roughly 8-10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10-14 MPG for a Class C, 18-22 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12-16 MPG combined when towing a travel trailer with a pickup. Arkansas gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and there are major fuel stops along I-40 in West Memphis (about 60 miles north) and Highway 49 through Marianna. Pro tip: fill up in Helena or West Helena before heading into rural stretches toward St. Francis National Forest or the White River, where stations get sparse fast.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book campgrounds near Helena-West Helena?
Most of the time, you've got room to be spontaneous. Arkansas State Parks like Mississippi River State Park (Lone Pine and Beech Point campgrounds) take reservations up to 13 months in advance through the official ArkansasStateParks.com reservation system, but you can often snag a midweek site just a few days out. The big exception is the King Biscuit Blues Festival in early October, when Pat Kelley RV Park and every site within 30 miles books up months ahead. Storm Creek Lake (U.S. Forest Service) is first-come, first-served. Pro tip: for October festival weekends, lock in your campsite the moment you book your RV, often six months out.
