Campgrounds near Horatio, Arkansas
Horatio sits in Sevier County in far southwest Arkansas, close to the Oklahoma line and about an hour from the Ouachita National Forest. The town itself is small, so most RV travelers use it as a base for lakes, rivers, and state parks that fan out in every direction. The nearest full-service RV options include River Camp RV and Creekside RV Park, both practical stopovers for hookups and short stays.
The biggest draw for extended trips is Beavers Bend State Park, just across the border in southeast Oklahoma. Its main campground and Nature Center anchor a large network of camping loops, including the Acorn and Fern areas, spread along the Mountain Fork River and Broken Bow Lake.
Expect a mix of pine and hardwood forest, clear water, and rugged terrain. Sites range from primitive tent pads to modern RV pads with full hookups, with reservations handled through the Oklahoma State Parks system for anything inside Beavers Bend.
Things to do near Horatio
Water is the main attraction. Broken Bow Lake offers boating, swimming, and fishing, while the Mountain Fork River below the dam is a trout fishery stocked year-round, with two catch-and-release trophy areas. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats are available for rent inside Beavers Bend State Park.
On land, Beavers Bend State Park and Nature Center hosts programs, exhibits, and trailheads for hiking and mountain biking. Horseback riding and a park golf course are also on site.
Closer to Horatio, day trips include Millwood Lake for fishing and birding, and Crater of Diamonds State Park near Murfreesboro, where visitors can search for and keep any diamonds they find.

Seasonal patterns near Horatio

March - May
72° / 52°F 125 mmWettest season; thunderstorms and rising river levels
- summer
June - August
91° / 70°F 90 mmHot and humid; peak bookings, reserve months ahead
- fall
September - November
73° / 52°F 95 mmMild days, cool nights; strong hardwood color in October
- winter
December - February
54° / 36°F 100 mmCool and wet; occasional freezing rain or light snow
Spring is the most variable season. March through May bring warming temperatures, wildflowers, and frequent rainfall, with May typically among the wettest months for thunderstorms. River levels can rise quickly after heavy rain, which occasionally affects riverside sites at Beavers Bend.
Summer runs hot and humid, with daytime highs frequently in the low 90s Fahrenheit and heat indices climbing higher. This is the busiest booking window: Beavers Bend fills fast on weekends, holidays, and around spring break, so the Oklahoma State Parks system recommends booking well ahead. Creekside RV Park and River Camp RV also see steady summer traffic from lake visitors.
Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and strong color in the hardwoods, making October and early November a favorite window for RV travelers. Winter is short but can turn cold and wet, with occasional freezing rain or light snow. The Beavers Bend campground stays open year-round, though some loops and services scale back in the off-season.
How to book campgrounds near Horatio
Sites inside Beavers Bend State Park, including the Acorn and Fern loops, are reserved through the Oklahoma State Parks online reservation system. Individual campsites can be booked up to 11 months in advance, and no sites are held for first-come, first-served use. Weekend stays require a minimum of two nights, and holiday periods require three. Reservations must be cancelled at least five days before arrival to receive a full deposit refund.
Private parks such as River Camp RV and Creekside RV Park book directly through the operator by phone or website. For summer weekends, holidays, and fall color weeks, plan to reserve several weeks out, and keep backup dates and alternate loops in mind, since riverfront and full-hookup sites are the first to sell out.
What to expect on the ground
Beavers Bend offers three main tiers of camping: modern sites with water, 30-amp electric, and sewer; semi-modern sites with 30 or 50-amp electric and water; and primitive tent-only areas. Waste dump stations are available on site, and restrooms with showers are within walking distance of most loops.
Roads inside the park are winding and shaded by tall pine and hardwood, so larger rigs should scout site dimensions before booking. Leashed pets are welcome in the park.
Cell service is spotty in the river bottoms and deeper loops. Bring cash or a card for park entry, firewood, and rentals, and pack layers, since clear nights near the river can cool off quickly even in summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Horatio, AR
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Horatio, AR?
Good news: RV rental in Horatio, AR is one of the most affordable ways to explore southwest Arkansas. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $95 to $160 per night, campervans run $130 to $215, and Class C motorhomes range from $185 to $285 nightly, depending on season and size. Because Horatio sits in rural Sevier County, you will often pay less than you would in Little Rock or Hot Springs. To find a cheap RV rental in Horatio, book midweek, travel in shoulder months like March or October, and use the price filter to sort lowest first. Pro tip: pairing a smaller travel trailer with a campsite at Millwood State Park keeps the whole trip under budget.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Horatio%2C%20ArkansasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Horatio, Arkansas?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Horatio, Arkansas. Arkansas does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, so your everyday license covers Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most fifth wheels available on RVezy. You must be at least 25 years old to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from overseas? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license. Once you are verified, you are cleared to hit Highway 71 and start your Arkansas adventure.

You can book with confidence: every RV rental in Horatio, AR booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers physical damage to the RV during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind on rural Arkansas roads. During checkout you choose from several protection tiers, so you can match the level of coverage to how you plan to travel, whether that is a quick weekend at Pond Creek National Wildlife Refuge or a longer Arkansas RV trip. You select your coverage, not the host. Pro tip: if you are towing a travel trailer for the first time, the higher-tier plan is a smart pick for stress-free driving on Highway 41.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Horatio RV rental?
Booking is low risk: RVezy sets a clear, standardized cancellation policy on every reservation, including a grace period right after you book so you can lock in your dates without second-guessing. Refund amounts depend on how far out your trip is from the cancellation date. Because RVezy (not the individual host) manages the cancellation policy, you get consistent, fair treatment across every listing in Horatio. Pro tip: book early to grab the best rigs for Millwood Lake fishing weekends or De Queen Lake holidays, and reach out to RVezy support right away if severe weather forces a change of plans.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Horatio, AR RV rental?
Absolutely, your pup is welcome on many trips. Lots of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental in Horatio, AR, and you can filter listings by the Pet-Friendly toggle to see them instantly. Sevier County is a great place to travel with dogs: Millwood State Park allows leashed pets on trails and at campsites, Pond Creek National Wildlife Refuge offers wide-open spaces for birdwatching strolls, and the shoreline at De Queen Lake is perfect for splash time. Confirm any pet fees and size or breed notes by messaging the host before booking. Pro tip: pack a tie-out stake, since shaded campsites at Millwood's Beard's Bluff area have plenty of room but limited fencing.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/millwood-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campground near Horatio?
Yes, RV delivery in Horatio is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to towing. Many RVezy hosts will drop the motorhome or travel trailer right at your site at Millwood State Park, Cossatot Reefs Campground, or even a private property near the Little River, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, and check their per-mile delivery fee on the listing. Pro tip: delivery is a smart move for families flying into Texarkana Regional Airport (about 35 miles southwest) who don't want to tow on Highway 71.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/millwood-state-parkHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Horatio?
You've got serious range from Horatio. Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer Arkansas itineraries. From Horatio you can reach Hot Springs National Park in about 2 hours (110 miles), Little Rock in 3 hours (160 miles), Broken Bow Lake, Oklahoma in 45 minutes (30 miles), Texarkana in under an hour (35 miles), and the Ouachita National Forest in roughly 90 minutes. Check the listing's mileage policy before booking and message the host if you're planning a bigger loop. Pro tip: filter for unlimited-mileage listings if you want to combine Millwood Lake with a Hot Springs soak.
nps.gov/hosp/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Horatio, AR?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Horatio start with Millwood State Park, about 20 miles east, which offers waterfront sites with water and 30/50-amp electric on one of Arkansas's top bass-fishing lakes. Beard's Bluff and Cottonshed Landing, both U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks on Millwood Lake, give you quiet waterfront sites with electric hookups. Cossatot River State Park-Natural Area, about an hour north, is perfect for paddlers, and Daisy State Park on Lake Greeson (about 75 miles northeast) features RV sites with hookups. Pro tip: Beard's Bluff fills fast on summer weekends, so book Corps sites early through Recreation.gov.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/millwood-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Horatio?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping in Horatio. From mid-March through May, daytime highs run a comfortable 65 to 80°F, the dogwoods bloom, and bass fishing on Millwood Lake heats up. Late September through early November brings crisp 55 to 78°F days, low humidity, and brilliant hardwood color along the Little River. Summer (June to August) is hot and humid with highs near 93°F and frequent thunderstorms, so look for shaded sites and rigs with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild, averaging 37 to 55°F, with rare freezes, which means year-round RV adventures are realistic here. Pro tip: book an October weekend to catch the Sevier County Fair crowd-free.
weather.gov/lzk/I've never rented an RV before. Is Horatio a good place to start?
Horatio is a fantastic spot for your first time renting an RV. Traffic is light, roads are flat, and there are no mountain passes or tight downtowns to worry about, which is a huge confidence boost compared to bigger cities. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the slide-outs, water pump, propane, generator, and waste tanks, and they're just a text away during your trip. Many hosts also offer delivery, so the RV is set up and ready when you arrive at Millwood State Park. Pro tip: book a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for your first Horatio RV trip, they're forgiving to drive and easy to back into a campsite.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/recreational-vehiclesWhat happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the road?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking in Horatio includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing if needed. One call gets help dispatched to wherever you are, whether that is a quiet stretch of Highway 71 between Horatio and De Queen or a back road near Pond Creek National Wildlife Refuge. Your host is also reachable by phone or in-app message for quick fixes like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater, and RVezy customer support backs you up before, during, and after the trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Horatio RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Absolutely, interstate travel is welcomed by most hosts. Horatio's location in the southwest corner of Arkansas puts you minutes from Oklahoma (the border is about 8 miles west) and roughly 30 miles from Texas, so multi-state road trips from Horatio are easy: think Broken Bow Lake, OK, Caddo Lake, TX, or Hochatown for the day. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage stop at the U.S. border. Always confirm cross-state plans with your host so they know your route. Pro tip: a Horatio to Broken Bow loop, paired with a stop at Beavers Bend State Park, is the perfect long-weekend Arkansas-Oklahoma combo.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-go/your-tripHow much should I budget for fuel on a Horatio RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan for here. Class B campervans typically average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A or large fifth wheel setups land around 6 to 9 MPG. Gas prices in Sevier County tend to track slightly below the national average, and you'll find convenient fill-ups in Horatio, De Queen, and Ashdown along Highway 71. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop to Millwood Lake and back, budget roughly $90 to $180 in fuel depending on rig size. Pro tip: top off in De Queen before heading west toward Broken Bow, as fuel stations get sparse once you cross into Oklahoma's McCurtain County backroads.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I reserve a campsite near Horatio?
Plan ahead and you'll lock in the best spots easily. Millwood State Park and Arkansas's other state parks open reservations up to 13 months in advance through ArkansasStateParks.com, while U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Millwood Lake (Beard's Bluff, Cottonshed Landing, Paraloma Landing) book through Recreation.gov up to six months out. For summer weekends, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, aim to book 3 to 4 months ahead. Spring and fall weekdays are usually wide open just a week or two out. Pro tip: if Millwood is full, try Cossatot River State Park or Daisy State Park on Lake Greeson, both within easy driving distance of Horatio.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2742What are driving conditions like around Horatio?
Driving in and around Horatio is refreshingly relaxed. U.S. Highway 71 is the main north-south route with wide shoulders and gentle curves, and Highway 41 east toward Millwood Lake is flat and RV-friendly. There are no mountain grades, tunnels, or low clearances to worry about in Sevier County, so even a 30-foot Class C handles the area easily. Watch for occasional logging trucks, deer at dawn and dusk, and sudden spring thunderstorms that can drop heavy rain quickly. Cell service is solid along Highway 71 but spotty near the Little River bottoms. Pro tip: avoid driving Highway 71 right after sunset in fall, when deer activity peaks across southwest Arkansas.
idrivearkansas.com/What hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Horatio offer?
You'll find solid amenities at local campgrounds. Millwood State Park offers 30 and 50-amp electric, water at every site, a centralized dump station, hot showers, and a fish-cleaning station. Beard's Bluff and Cottonshed Landing on Millwood Lake provide full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) at many sites. Daisy State Park on Lake Greeson features full-hookup pads plus laundry. You can dump tanks at Millwood State Park's dump station and refill fresh water at the campground spigots, and most stations are free for registered campers. Pro tip: bring a 50-to-30-amp dogbone adapter and at least 25 feet of fresh water hose, since site pedestal placements at Beard's Bluff can be farther from your rig than expected.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/millwood-state-parkWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Horatio?
You'll be impressed by how well-equipped these rigs are. A typical motorhome rental in Horatio comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (most sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many listings include a generator, outdoor speakers, awning, and even Smart TVs. Wi-Fi varies, so plan to use your phone's hotspot if you're working remotely. Pro tip: when comparing campervan rental Horatio listings, check the kitchen photos closely, since Class B vans often trade a full bathroom for a compact wet bath, which still works great for Millwood Lake weekenders.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts make trip planning easy with helpful add-ons. Common extras for RV rental in Arkansas include camping chairs and tables ($15 to $30 per trip), bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generators ($25 to $40 per day), bike racks, kayaks, and propane refills. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Horatio, De Queen, or Ashdown, and many hosts offer delivery to Millwood State Park or your driveway for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, with 100 miles per day being common and unlimited mileage available on select listings. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator add-on for a true family RV trip Horatio experience with zero hassle.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/recreational-vehiclesHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book your motorhome rental in Horatio on RVezy, you pay through the platform using a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your transaction protected. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, do a thorough walk-around with the host at pickup, take date-stamped photos and videos, follow the mileage and generator policies in the listing, and return the RV with tanks dumped and fuel topped off. Pro tip: keep your fuel receipt from the De Queen fill-up as proof.
