Camping near Lewisville, Arkansas
Lewisville sits in Lafayette County in southwest Arkansas, roughly halfway between Texarkana and Magnolia. The area is flat to gently rolling pine and hardwood country in the Gulf Coastal Plain, and most trip planning here revolves around state parks, Millwood Lake, and the Texarkana metro to the west for services, groceries, and RV supplies.
The closest developed state park to town is Logoly State Park near Magnolia, Arkansas' first environmental education state park, whose 370 acres include a State Natural Area with unique plant species and mineral springs, and which sits an easy day trip from Texarkana, El Dorado, Camden, Magnolia, and Hope. Sterling Crest RV Park offers a private-park option in the same corridor.
West of Lewisville, Texarkana KOA Journey and Texarkana RV Park and Event Center give RV renters full-hookup pads with easy interstate access. To the northwest, Millwood State Park sits along Arkansas Route 32, just nine miles east of Ashdown, on the 29,260-acre Millwood Lake, known for bass fishing amid submerged timber, marshes, and oxbow cutoffs.
Things to do near Lewisville
Fishing drives most trips in this part of Arkansas. Millwood Lake is a destination for serious bass fishing, with a series of boat lanes meandering through submerged timber, marshes, and oxbow cutoffs, and the lake abounds in largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie. During spring and fall, Millwood offers some of the best crappie fishing in Arkansas, and summer provides excellent catfish and bream fishing. A marina at Millwood offers gift items, groceries, bait, gas for sale, and rental fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks.
Birding is a second draw. Millwood is an Audubon-designated Important Bird Area with sightings of over 300 of the state's 400 species on record. Families with younger kids often build a day around Logoly's visitor center and interpretive programs, then head into Texarkana for museums, restaurants, and Wright Patman Lake for boating and swimming.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for an RV trip in southwest Arkansas. March through May brings mild days, wildflowers, and the region's best crappie run, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year and severe-weather season, with thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches common. In May, precipitation reaches its peak, with an average around 144 mm.
Summer is hot and humid. August is the warmest month, averaging around 29°C or 84°F, and afternoon storms are frequent. Shaded sites and full-hookup parks with pools become the practical choice for families.
Fall cools quickly after mid-September and delivers steady weather, lower humidity, and good fishing. Winter camping is possible: Millwood State Park is open throughout the year, with crowds peaking in summer and during the busy spring and fall fishing seasons. Logoly shifts to reduced off-peak hours from December through February, with weekday hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and shorter Saturday-Sunday hours.
How to book camping near Lewisville
Arkansas State Parks campsites can be reserved by phoning or visiting the park visitor center during business hours, or online at ArkansasStateParks.com, up to 12 months in advance of the scheduled arrival date. This single central system handles both Logoly and Millwood, and each park also has a direct office number for questions about specific sites or group facilities.
Millwood features 45 campsites: 27 Class AAA, 2 Class A, 13 Class B, and three primitive tent sites. Class AAA sites are equipped with water, 50-amp electric, and sewer hookups and are the first to fill for holiday weekends and spring bass tournaments, so book several weeks out. The campground has a one-way road system, and the map indicates a single pull-through site, which is worth noting when reserving a rental RV.
Texarkana KOA Journey, Sterling Crest RV Park, and Texarkana RV Park and Event Center take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone and typically confirm instantly.
What to expect on site
State park campgrounds in this region are quiet and lightly developed. At Millwood, campers can choose between two distinct sections: the full hookup area has no shade, while the water and electric section has lots of shade. Bathrooms were reported as spacious, clean, and private, and a playground and short interpretive trails keep kids busy between fishing trips.
Logoly's park facilities include a group camping area with no hookups, a bathhouse with hot showers, a pavilion, a multipurpose meeting room, picnic sites, a playground, and multiple trails, so it is better suited to tent campers or self-contained rigs than to renters who need sewer service.
Texarkana KOA Journey and the other private parks in the corridor offer pull-through or back-in RV sites with full hookups, laundry, and other amenities. Verizon cell signal has been reported as weak at Millwood, so plan for reduced connectivity lakeside.
