Central Arkansas has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild, cool winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times for RV travel. Little Rock experiences a prolonged spring wet season, with heavy rainfall a distinct possibility from March to May, and a secondary wet season peaking in November and December; thunderstorms are especially frequent and severe in spring, when torrential rainfall, damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes are all significant threats, with a secondary severe weather season peaking in November. Summer is hot. Highs routinely exceed 90°F from June through August, and 100°F days occur most years. On average, August is the driest month, and July through September is the driest period of the year. RV air conditioning and shaded sites become priorities, and riverside Corps of Engineers sites fill early on summer weekends. Winters are cool rather than harsh, with occasional snow, sleet and freezing rain when cold Canadian air at ground level is overrun by warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. Most established campgrounds in the area stay open year-round, and wintering eagles can be seen in large numbers along the Arkansas River.

Access is straightforward for large rigs. McAlmont sits right off I-40, and the private parks in this cluster are geared to travelers with paved or gravel pads, full hookups, and pull-through sites suitable for most Class A and fifth-wheel setups. Cell service across the major carriers is generally reliable in the metro area. At nearby Corps of Engineers campgrounds on the Arkansas River, sites offer water and electric hookups and can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs from 45 to 75 feet, with drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, group picnic shelters, a playground and a boat ramp. Swimming is not permitted in the Arkansas River, and low-lying sites can get muddy after heavy rain. Expect humidity, biting insects at dusk in warmer months, and occasional barge traffic at riverside sites. Grocery stores, fuel, dump stations, and RV services are all easy to reach within the Little Rock and North Little Rock metro.
