Campgrounds near Monticello, Arkansas
Monticello sits in southeast Arkansas, in the Gulf Coastal Plain between the Ouachita River bottoms and the Arkansas Delta. RV travelers use it as a base for lake fishing, birding along the Mississippi Flyway, and short drives to state parks in both Arkansas and northern Louisiana. Pecan Grove RV Park handles most in-town overnight needs, while three state parks within roughly an hour to ninety minutes cover the weekend and week-long options.
Lake Chicot State Park sits on Arkansas's largest natural lake, a 20-mile oxbow cut off from the Mississippi River centuries ago. Moro Bay State Park sits at the confluence of Raymond Lake and the Ouachita River in southern Arkansas, and Chemin-A-Haut State Park in north Louisiana sits on 503 acres on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew.
The Oaks on Bussey rounds out the private-park options closer to town. Together the five parks give travelers a mix of full-hookup pads, waterfront sites, and quieter wooded loops, so an itinerary can shift between fishing weekends, family lake stays, and cross-state-line trips without long relocations.
Things to do near Monticello
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Chicot is known for its bream, crappie, catfish, and bass fishing, with open waters and quiet timber-lined shores. Moro Bay offers year-round fishing for bass, bream, crappie, and catfish on the Ouachita River and Raymond Lake. At Chemin-A-Haut, paddlers can launch kayaks or canoes to explore the creek system and reach ancient cypress trees scattered throughout the waterway.
Land-based options include short interpretive trails, bike rentals at the state parks, and the Moro Bay Ferry historic exhibit. Lake Chicot's facilities include a park store, boat launch, swimming pool open in summer, laundry, and playground, which makes it a strong pick for families traveling with kids. Bicycles can be rented at the visitor center.
Birders time visits around spring and fall flyway migrations along the Mississippi corridor, and the area is a winter migratory bird hotspot given its proximity to the Mississippi Flyway.

Monticello has a humid subtropical climate with no dry season, so timing matters more for comfort than for access. Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV travel: warm days, cool nights, and manageable humidity. Spring brings frequent thunderstorm activity, and April and May are among the wetter months for storms in southeast Arkansas.
Summer runs hot and muggy. Summers are long, hot, and muggy, with temperatures typically peaking in the low nineties, and afternoon heat indexes push higher on the water. Pools and shaded riverfront sites become the priority. Chemin-A-Haut's swimming pool is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and Lake Chicot's pool follows a similar summer season.
Winters are short and mild by North American standards but wet. Lake Chicot is open year-round with reservations available, and Chemin-A-Haut is open 365 days per year. Cold snaps do occur, and occasional freezes can affect hookups, so shoulder-season and winter campers should confirm water service before arrival.
How to book campgrounds near Monticello
Arkansas State Parks handles Lake Chicot and Moro Bay through its central reservation system. Reservations may be made up to twelve months in advance of the scheduled arrival date, and full-hookup sites with water views should be locked in early. A non-refundable reservation deposit equal to the first night's non-discounted rate plus tax is required, and any cancellations result in the loss of the deposit. Campsites are limited to fourteen rental nights within a thirty-day period. Weekend reservations require a two-night minimum, and holiday weekends require three nights.
Chemin-A-Haut is booked through Louisiana State Parks' reservation system at gooutdoorslouisiana.com, which lists the park's full-hookup RV sites, cabins, and horse camping.
Pecan Grove RV Park and The Oaks on Bussey are private parks, typically booked directly by phone or through the operator's website. Holiday weekends and spring fishing weekends fill first at all five properties.
What to expect on arrival
State-park sites in this area are built for RVs. Lake Chicot features 122 campsites in a pecan grove, offering Premium sites with sewer along with standard sites, and Moro Bay provides Class AAA sites with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer on spacious pads sized for larger rigs. Chemin-A-Haut offers drive-in and boat-in options with 26 electric and water hookup sites, 30/50 amp, accommodating RVs up to 60 feet.
Check-in and check-out are both at 3:00 p.m. at Arkansas State Parks. Campsites are limited to eight persons, and camping units may consist of no more than two structures: one RV and one tent, or two tents. Expect strong cell coverage in town, spotty coverage inside the state parks, and camp stores stocked with ice, firewood, and basic bait and tackle.

How much does an RV rental in Monticello cost?
Monticello is one of the most affordable spots in Arkansas for an RV trip, with peer-to-peer rentals typically ranging from $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers and $150 to $275 per night for Class C motorhomes. Cheap RV rental Monticello options like older travel trailers and pop-ups often come in well under $100/night, while larger fifth wheels sit at the top of the range. You'll save the most by booking midweek and avoiding deer season weekends in November, when Drew County fills up with hunters. Pro tip: filter for hosts offering weekly discounts if you're staying 5+ nights at Cane Creek State Park.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Monticello%2C%20ArkansasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Monticello, AR?
Good news: a regular Class D driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Monticello for virtually every rig on RVezy. Under Arkansas law, only motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 26,000 pounds require a Commercial Driver's License, and Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most Class A rentals fall well below that threshold. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and identity is verified right through the platform. Visiting from out of state? Your home license works perfectly in Arkansas, so you can pick up your motorhome rental Monticello and hit US-425 the same day.

RVezy offers different protection tiers that you (not the host) choose during checkout, covering most damages to the RV for real peace of mind. If you get a flat on US-65 heading to Lake Chicot or have a battery issue at Pendleton Bend, one call dispatches help. Pick your coverage level at checkout and you're set for the road.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Monticello RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and the exact terms for your trip are shown before you confirm payment. Refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel, and RVezy support is available if plans change. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your trip can still happen. Pro tip: book a few weeks ahead for the best selection of campervan rental Monticello and trailer options, knowing you've got flexibility built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on my Monticello RV trip?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Monticello options are easy to find on RVezy, just check the Pet-Friendly filter when searching. Many local hosts welcome dogs, and southeast Arkansas is genuinely dog-friendly territory. Cane Creek State Park allows leashed pets at campsites and on trails (including the suspension bridges over Cane Creek Lake), and the Bayou Bartholomew area is perfect for morning walks. Bring a tie-out, plenty of water for the humid summers, and a tick preventative since you'll be in the woods. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size limits so check-in is smooth.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/cane-creek-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Monticello?
Yes, RV delivery Monticello is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you've never towed before. Many RVezy hosts in the Monticello and Drew County area will deliver the rig directly to Cane Creek State Park, Lakeview RV Park, or J & S RV Park, level it, hook up water and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter when you search. Delivery fees are typically based on mileage from the host's location. Pro tip: ask your host to deliver the day before your arrival so the fridge is cold and the air conditioning has the interior ready for those humid Arkansas afternoons.
arkansas.com/monticelloHow far can I drive on my Monticello RV rental?
Mileage policies are set by each host, and you'll find everything from generous 150-mile-per-day packages to RV rental with unlimited mileage right in the listing details. From Monticello, that opens up a huge chunk of the South: Little Rock is about 100 miles north, Hot Springs National Park sits around 150 miles northwest, Memphis is roughly 160 miles northeast, and Lake Chicot State Park (Arkansas's largest natural lake) is just 60 miles east. If you're planning a longer Monticello RV trip across state lines into Louisiana or Mississippi, filter for unlimited-mileage listings and you'll never watch the odometer. Always confirm the daily allowance with your host before booking.
arkansas.com/things-to-do/outdoorsWhere are the best campgrounds near Monticello?
You've got excellent choices for RV camping Monticello within a short drive. Cane Creek State Park (15 miles north near Star City) has 29 sites with water and electric hookups on a 1,675-acre lake. J & S RV Park is right in town near Lake Monticello, with 20 full-hookup sites including 30 and 50 amp service. Lakeview RV Park sits a quarter-mile from Lake Monticello with full hookups. About 30 minutes north, Pendleton Bend Recreation Area on the Arkansas River offers Corps of Engineers sites with great fishing for crappie and bass. Pecan Grove RV Park on Lake Chicot is worth the 60-mile drive for monthly stays. Book Cane Creek sites well ahead for spring weekends.
reserve.arkansasstateparks.com/cane-creekWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Monticello?
Spring (March to May) and fall (October to November) are the sweet spots for any Monticello RV trip, with daytime highs in the comfortable 65 to 80 degree range and lower humidity than summer. October is especially great as the woodlands around Cane Creek Lake light up with fall color and crappie fishing peaks. Summers are long, hot, and muggy (highs in the low 90s with sticky humidity), but lake camping and AC-equipped rigs make it doable. Winters are short and mild, with January lows around 36 degrees and very rare snow, so winter RV rental in Arkansas is totally on the table. Pro tip: avoid the first two weekends of modern gun deer season in mid-November when campgrounds fill up fast.
forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Monticello&state=AR&site=LZKI've never driven an RV. Is renting in Monticello a good place to start?
Monticello is honestly one of the easier places in the country for a first time renting an RV. The roads around Drew County (US-425, US-278, Highway 35) are flat, low-traffic, and well-maintained, with none of the mountain grades or big-city congestion that intimidate new drivers. Your host will give you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering everything from leveling jacks to the propane system, and you can text them anytime during your trip. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, book a host who offers delivery and setup. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or campervan rather than a 35-foot Class A, your nerves and the parking lot at Walmart Supercenter on Highway 425 will thank you.
fmcsa.dot.gov/safety/driver-safety/cmv-driving-tips-following-too-closelyWhat happens if my RV breaks down during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow service. If you're out at Pendleton Bend or driving down US-425 toward Crossett and something goes wrong, one call gets help dispatched to your location. Your host is also just a message away for questions about quirks specific to their RV like which breaker controls the microwave or how to prime the water pump. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's number in your phone before pulling out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Monticello, AR?
Monticello's location in southeast Arkansas makes it a fantastic launch point for a regional RV road trip from Monticello. Popular routes include: Hot Springs National Park (150 miles northwest, about 3 hours) for thermal baths and mountain scenery; Lake Chicot State Park (60 miles east, 1 hour) for Arkansas's largest natural lake; Memphis, TN (160 miles northeast, 3 hours) for Beale Street and Graceland; Little Rock (100 miles north, under 2 hours) for the Clinton Library and Pinnacle Mountain; and Vicksburg, MS (90 miles east) for Civil War history along the Mississippi. arkansas.com/things-to-do/road-tripsWhat kind of fuel mileage and budget should I plan for?
Realistic expectations make for happy trips. Class C motorhomes around Monticello typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans deliver 15 to 20 mpg, and tow vehicles pulling travel trailers usually see 10 to 14 mpg. Arkansas consistently has some of the cheapest gas in the country, with prices around $2.70 to $3.00 per gallon at Murphy USA and the Pilot Travel Center on US-65, so fuel for a 300-mile loop runs $75 to $125. Budget another $30 to $55 per night for campsites, plus groceries from Walmart on Highway 425 South. Pro tip: fill up in Arkansas before crossing into neighboring states, since gas often jumps 20 to 40 cents per gallon once you cross the line.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Monticello?
For Cane Creek State Park, book through the official Arkansas State Parks reservation system (reserve.arkansasstateparks.com) at least 4 to 6 weeks ahead for spring and fall weekends. Cane Creek only has 29 sites and they go fast for April wildflower weekends and October fishing trips. Privately-run parks like J & S RV Park and Lakeview RV Park usually have weekday availability with a few days' notice, but call ahead for holiday weekends. Corps of Engineers sites at Pendleton Bend can be reserved up to 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov. Pro tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) are almost always wide open, even at the most popular spots, and rates are sometimes lower.
recreation.gov/camping/gateways/2989What are the local driving conditions like around Monticello?
Driving around Monticello is refreshingly easy for an RV. The main routes (US-425, US-278, Highway 35) are flat, two-lane to four-lane highways with wide shoulders and very light traffic compared to most of the country. There are no mountain passes, no tunnels, and no low bridges to worry about in Drew County. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk (especially October through January) and afternoon thunderstorms in spring, which can include heavy rain and occasional tornado warnings. Logging trucks share the rural highways, so leave extra following distance. Pro tip: if you're heading to Little Rock, take US-65 north instead of cutting through smaller routes, it's the fastest, smoothest path for a big rig.
ardot.gov/travel/What amenities do campgrounds near Monticello offer?
You'll find solid, no-nonsense facilities at every major campground near Monticello. Cane Creek State Park provides water and electric hookups (30 and 50 amp), hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, trash collection, and a boat ramp on Cane Creek Lake. J & S RV Park and Lakeview RV Park both offer full hookups including sewer. Pendleton Bend Recreation Area has water, electric, and a dump station along with excellent Arkansas River access. To dump tanks and refill freshwater between trips, Cane Creek's dump station is open during park hours and is free for registered campers. Pro tip: cell service can be spotty in the deeper woods, so download offline maps before you leave town.
arkansasstateparks.com/parks/cane-creek-state-parkWhat features and amenities do RV rentals in Monticello typically include?
Most RV rentals in Monticello come fully equipped and ready for a family RV trip Monticello. Expect a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette beds (sleeping 4 to 8 depending on size), a full kitchen with refrigerator, stove, microwave and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning (essential for Arkansas summers), a furnace for cool nights, a flat-screen TV, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many hosts include linens, kitchenware, outdoor chairs, and a leveling kit. Generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and bike racks are common add-ons. Pro tip: check the listing photos and message the host to confirm what's included so you only pack what you actually need.
nps.gov/articles/000/rv-camping-tips.htmWhat add-ons and pickup options are available for my rental?
Hosts in Monticello typically offer useful add-ons like generators ($15 to $35/day), portable propane fire pits, outdoor grills, bike racks, kayaks, fishing gear, and stocked kitchen kits. Pickup and dropoff usually happen at the host's address in or near Monticello, but delivery to Cane Creek State Park, J & S RV Park, or your driveway in Drew County is widely available, just use the Delivery filter. Most hosts schedule a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough at pickup, so plan to arrive in the early afternoon for your first day. Pro tip: ask about a fishing rod add-on, since Cane Creek Lake and Bayou Bartholomew are stocked with bass, crappie, catfish, and bream year-round.
agfc.com/fishing/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy: you pay the rental cost, taxes, service fee, and any add-ons during checkout with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after dropoff once the host confirms everything came back in good shape. To avoid any deposit issues, take dated photos and videos at pickup and dropoff, empty the black and gray tanks at Cane Creek's dump station before returning, and refuel to the level noted in your agreement. Pro tip: complete the pre-trip walkthrough checklist with your host so there are no surprises later.
